Corelle Brands corel dishes

I bought two sets of dishes from Walmart, I brought one box back because when I opened it the dishes were broke, two bowls and one plate. I got another set in return, I washed the dishes and one bowl just broke in the sink. I have pictures to send. My name is Denise Blundon, email is deniseblundon.[protected]@gmail.com

I really love Corel dishes and very dissatisfied with the dishes being broke when I purchased them and having to take them to get an exchange and now a bowl broke out of the set.

Corelle Brands chicago cutlery knife set

I have an old Chicago Cutlery knife set. One of the handles on the 5" blade knife broke. I contacted Corelle Brands/Chicago in mid May. They sent me a 5" blade knife that is basically the same shape, but the handle is much lighter, closer to the color of the block knife holder. My knife handles are almost black. I contacted them again. They asked me to send pictures, which I did. They asked what was the writing on the blade. I replied, it says "Designed and Marketed by Chicago Cutlery. Next they sent me, which I just got last week, an 8" boning knife with a black handle, which also does not match my set. I have been very disappointed in the lack of concern and slow response shown by Corelle. I was telling a friend about it, and she said when she contacted them about her broken knife and they couldn't replace it because her set had been discontinued, they sent her an entirely new set. I am having difficulty understanding why I'm being treated differently.

Thanks for anything you can do,
Jackie Powell

Corelle Brands corelle dinnerware

April 28, 2019.

My son accidentally dropped a bowl on our hardwood floors and it shattered into a million pieces. The pieces are quiet sharp and could have caused more damage if anyone was sitting close by as they flew everywhere. It actually took a long time to ensure all the scraps were picked up for fear of anyone stepping on it or our dog. I have 3 sets of the same pattern and have had them for 8 years. The reason I bought them was for the fact they claim to be hard to break, which we have found out that is not the case. I'm tempted to dispose of all of them as I don't want anyone to get injured if this happens again.

Corelle Brands full white square dish sets

I received 2 square white dish sets for an Xmas gift but am extremely disappointed with the quality. I have 2 chipped plates and yesterday a plate shattered in the sink for no reason while I was filling sink with soapy water.
They are obviously defective and I have sent a complaint to the customer service dept.
I have older casserole sets/food storage sets and haven't lost one yet (they are 25yrs old or more). Hoping they stand behind their products/name and do the right thing...

Corelle Brands corelle serving bowl

As per many other feedbackers, I have experienced this"Corelle Explosion phenomenon" quite frequently. A bowl exploded into small sharp shards in a public place surrounded by adults and kids. Fortunately, nobody was hurt.
Why does this brand specify "break and chip resistant" that is not a true statement in my experience? It is not so much that they actually do break on linoleum floors but that they shatter and explode when they fall. That creates a hazardous situation for anyone close by. Even though they state being bMicrowave safe, perhaps this makes them brittle after time? The video attached exemplifies the scenario that I experienced, especially the end where the bowl just shatters into a million shards, as does the photo which shows what I got when I swept up the remains of the bowl.
NOTE: I do not want a refund or a resolution to this incident. I am just providing feedback because I found the Corelle complaint site to do so. Thank you.

I did not want broken glass anywhere. My kids are little and you can never get every single piece of glass. I am greatful that the three times my bowls have broken. I was able to get every piece up and no one got hurt.

Corelle Brands chipped handles of tea cups

We Bought half a dozen tea & cup saucers of Corelle from a reputed crockery store in Crawford Market called Apsara Stores. This was bought sometime in last June 2014. Corelle advertises its products as Unbreakable, All the 6 cup handles have just chipped off and come undone from their place. The store owner of " Apsara" has completely absolved himself of any responsibility, and has advised us to communicate with the company directly. We need a replacement or these cups as even after spending a huge amount on such a popular brand the satisfaction level is zero. Please help us solve this issue.

Corelle Brands hazardous dishes explode

A Corelle bowl that fell in the kitchen from less than 3 feet high literally exploded and shards were found on the floor as far away as 17 feet and on TOP of furniture as far away as 12 feet. Smaller, glass-like pieces may never come out of the jute rug in the living room. Literally every square inch of a 580 square foot space will need to be cleaned to insure safety of the home's inhabitants and visitors. Remaining Corelle dishes will need to carefully be put in the trash, and marks on the new vinyl floor can never be removed. Thankfully, no injuries have occurred, yet, but other many other complaints about Corelle dishes confirm serious injuries. There should be a National recall of this product and compensation for the documented horrible experiences. For more details, please see my complaint on line.

Corelle Brands deceived by type of contents in dinner ware

I purchased a Corelle set of dinnerware after my divorce. I purchased the set with the red stripes around the edges on a white background. Since it was advertised as Corelle Ware I assumed incorrectly that It was all Corelle Ware including the cups were not chippable and were strictly Corelle Ware. Little did I know that the cups were stoneware and I chipped one on my kitchen faucet . I am very unhappy and feel deceived. Never in my imagination did I think that Corelle would have stoneware mixed in with their "unbreakable" dinner set. What is my remedy?

i bought Inalsa Maxie plus in july 2011. it worked well for almost six months. but after that its jars started making noise. the noise is so loud that i have to close my kitchen door before operating it. i called customer care n the technician that came told me that u hv to run the grinder with lid open for atleast half minute after every wash. "THATS PATHETIC". since then I have to call technician every month for the servicing of the jars.

now arises another problem: cracking of the plastic part of chutnney jar. while the product was still in warranty period, technician said that company will not agree that the part broke by itself so u have to buy the part i.e. "expense of Rs250".
soon after replacing it plastic part of other jar also started cracking...
Now the product is still in warranty period AND now when i lifed the grinder body for cleaning purpose, the whole body cracked.

Corelle Brands poor service

I just purchased some Corelle Livingware after using a set for eight years. The product held up well and I continue to use the old livingware, but wanted a new design. I purchased the Memphis design and read the box thoroughly to note any changes in the product. The stated that the dishes were break and chip resistant, metal mark-scratch and stain resistant, microwave, oven and dishwasher safe. However, when I opened the box, the cups were STONEWARE. This means that they break easily. Stoneware wasn't written ANYWHERE on the box.

When I contacted the company, I was told that making the cups out of stoneware was cheaper and easier for the company and that they were updating the box due to consumer complaints. However, my box was not updated. I feel that the stoneware cups should be replaced with Vitrelle cups, which are break resistant, as my old set includes.

Corelle Brands dishes shattering

I decided to buy a set of corelle dinnerware because it was soo pretty and because of it's advertising that it's chip and break resistant.. well tonight we accidentally dropped one of the bowls and could not believe that it broke into sooo many pieces! It was like it exploded. There was glass everywhere, , on our table, in our food, all over the place.. I got a piece of class on my leg and some glass pieces even got in the upholstery of the chairs.. It was unbelievable! I've never seen any dish break that way.. Ususally they break in several big pieces.. I am definitely NOT KEEPING THESE DISHES IN MY HOUSE AND I DO NOT RECOMMEND THESE TO ANYONE..

I purchase 2 yrs ago. They look brand new but I recently put my food on it to heat up in microwave for a min, min 1/2 and about 50 sec into it the plate just exploded. I have never seen a plate do this. It just didn't shatter into big pieces it literally exploded into slivers of little pieces. This was a large dinner plate. Very disappointed.. The bowls chip all around the bowl too. I wonder what materials they are using now for this too happen and are they even safe too eat off of. Yrs ago you could drop them and nothing would happen now we don't know what we are eating off of.

My Husband tripped and fell, he had a corelle plate in his hand . He landed face first into the plate, the plate shattered to a million pieces. We have to call an ambulance and take him to the ER. The doctors had to work over an hour and a half removing the glass shards from his face. He has stitches in his head and lip and a broken nose. The cuts on his nose were so severe they could not even stitch it. They had to remove pieces of cartilage from his face. He will be scarred for life from this plate. We called corelle to inform them what happened and the agent laughed at him on the phone. Needless to say we have called our lawyer.

I have used Corelle for over 20 years and have never experienced any problems. . .until last night. I was placing a plate on top of another one when the bottom one EXPLODED into tiny little shards. They left bloody dings in my stomach (closest to the plates), arms, and face. The shards were EVERYWHERE! I'm still debating about replacing them because I've always loved my Corelle. But today I did the dishes and I winced at every plate and bowl I touched. Maybe I will replace them all. A friend said to stay away from Pyrex, as well. I think they're the same company.

I dropped a bowl and it shattered into THOUSANDS of tiny, very sharp pieces. We did what we could and thought we got them all... we were wrong. I stepped on one and couldn't get it out. Ended up having to go to the ER and THEY couldn't get it out. I don't have insurance, and can't afford a specialist, as was suggested. Has anyone tried to sue Corelle?

Corelle Brands explosive plates & bowls / injury, blindness, & death

I have experienced that the Corelle Dinnerware set purchased some 15 years ago to have a very explosive nature. Some of the dishes exploded just sitting in the cabinet, but the last experience almost maimed my wife. Their needs to be some sort of warning sent out about this product. This could be very dangerous to anyone as when these dishes explode they shatter into millions of small pieces of glass, like the shrapnel of a bomb, that can limbed into the skin and unless removed can cause death. The human body does not expel glass as do wood splinters, instead it digs deeper and can eventually find it’s way to an artery where it could lead to internal bleeding that would kill you. I even believe that at this point maybe a national recall on the product should be made as it is hazardous to your health.

I love the weight and easy storage of Corelle. I have had a set for about 20 years. Once many years ago I sat a plate on a solid surface stove (stove was off, but still warm) and the plate exploded. I blamed myself for that. Recently, however, there have been two times when a plate was placed in the sink and left overnight. Nothing sitting on them and no temp changes. But in the morning, a broken plate in the sink. Now not loving these quite so much.

Just had a fairly new (we have had them almost exactly 2 years, bought new) plate completely shatter into a gazillion tiny SHARP shards when dropped from the height of a 5 or 6 year old holding it at about chest height. (my short for his age 7 year old was carrying it) It spread thru the hallway and into a nearby room as well as part of the livingroom near the hall. My son has a small cut in his foot, but luckily that is it (we picked him up and removed him from the shards immediately) but it could have been much much worse.

I just googled "Corelle plates exploding" and came across this site. Last week a Corelle plate exploded with a sandwich on it. The plate was in my hand when this happened, and it was room temperature. I just took the sandwich out of the fridge. Pieces went flying in the air and ended up all over the kitchen floor. I could not believe what was happening. Pictures of the aftermath are attached. I had cleaned up the mess on the floor before I even thought to take them. I have offered the plate and remnants to Corelle, so we'll see what they say.

I was in the kitchen after dinner and had not cleared the dishes. I heard a crashing sound, but I did not know where it came from so I thought I imagined it. Later on, I walked past the table again and saw that a bowl I had used at dinner was shattered. No one had touched it or had gone near it since dinner, but it was broken so that must have been the sound I heard earlier.

I'll add to the disturbing stories here: Last night I put a Corelle plate on an electric burner on my range to heat the plate up a bit before plating food; I've never done this before with these plates, but didn't expect what happened shortly after I jacked up the temp on the burner (should not have done that, admittedly) to hasten the warming. I had just plated the food, when there was a LOUD bang and the plate literally exploded all over the kitchen into both large and small shards. Fortunately, I was not in the way (a miracle, really), and there were glass shards everywhere. It was quite the mess.

Interestingly enough just last week I watched a show on PBS' NOVA exploring materials; among other things they showed interesting things about glass and how glass behaves. They showed what happens when hot molten glass is placed on a tempered glass sheet. Not long after the hot blob was placed on the glass, the entire sheet shattered. I believe what happened last night was a similar phenomenon that is common to tempered glass.

My 4 years old Corelle bowl was just washed in tap water and left to dry on the rack for about 30 minutes. Heard a loud snap and noticed a bowl in the middle of some bowls had snapped into half. Missing bits from the corner I’ll now have to hunt for them. I’m always very careful and gentle with the bowls.
From my understanding, these bowls are made from glass instead of the usual ceramic, and in order to make it strong, they use a tempering technique, where the exterior of the glass is cooled and hardened before the interior does, so it creates a lot of internal tension which actually strengthens the bowl, that is until there is a flaw, like a microscopic scratch or a crack, then everything goes into a rapid disassembly, in other words explodes.
When I tried to match the 2 pieces together, they fit perfectly in the middle, but not along the edges of the bowl. Shows how much tension there is in the structure. I’m thinking of getting rid of all my Corelle stuff now after reading all the other stories.

Wow! Reading these stories of spontaneous Corelle explosions is very alarming.

I was astounded with the force of the explosion when yesterday one of our small Corelle plates (7-3/8-inch diameter) fell off our kitchen counter down onto our porcelain tile floor. One of the shards flew back up onto the counter! I found it intersesting that so many of the shards were thin crescent filaments.

Are there any technical articles about what details/features of the Corelle material causes such explosive disassembly ... even without (in some cases described in earlier posts) without being dropped onto a hard surface?

(Below I've included pictures of my debris field ... taken from opposite directions ... and an unbroken plate 9for reference and scale.)

Dropped a small bowl today 4/7/23. Explodes. Picture below. Literally seeing you can’t even move one inch without puncturing your foot. Ruins half your day chasing pieces over 20x20’ area. Thats 400 sq feet of shards! From tiny bowl.

Opposite of shatterproof!

Explosive shatter! Gets me so angry to see this happen for the 4th time!

I have 3 different corelle dinner sets and never had a problem with them. Last week, however, one of my bakeware dishes exploded in the oven! I heard a loud smash and didn't realise until the oven timer went off a few minutes later. The corelle vitrelle bakeware was less than 2 years old and not used very often either. I was mortified at the amount of small pieces that blew around and settled in the oven. An absolute nightmare to clean, food wasted and now I'm paranoid about using my other corelle pieces. Feeling anxious.

I was so excited to purchase this dish that for my daughter who's moving out for college into her 1st apartment. The dishes arrived with dinner dishes broken in many pieces and one mug was broken in many pieces. Easy to cut my hand on.
Corelle advertises break resistant, really. Now I have to waste time returning these dishes.
