Xbox 360 Complaint
I randomly got charged for Xbox Live today, I haven't had Xbox live for quite a while... My Xbox 360 also started doing the 3 red lights thing a while ago so I thought it was time to call in to get it repaired for free and to cancel Xbox Live. Little did I know that I would still be on the phone an hour and a half later...
First I called 1-800-4MYXBOX and had to go through one of those stupid voice menu things. I said Xbox Live and then it repeated all the choices again so then I said Xbox Live again. Then it went to the next menu where the choice I needed to say was "Cancel My Xbox Live Subscription". Then it repeated my choices 3 more times because it had no idea what I was saying. I then got an operator who asked what I wanted to do. I told him that I needed to cancel my Xbox Live. He asked for all my information like my name, address, last 4 #'s of my credit card, email address, phone number, gamer tag, and a handful of other stuff. Then he asked why I wanted to cancel it and I said because my Xbox 360 was flashing 3 red lights so there was no point in having Xbox Live. Then he said alright well then we need to get you to repair so I said nope, not until you cancel my Xbox Live. Then he hung up.
Then I called back again and went through all the menus where it had no idea what I was saying until I got to another operator who verified all that information all over again. I told her I needed to cancel my Xbox Live since my system was broken and she started to tell me how she would give me one month free of Xbox Live. I told her I didn't want that since my system was broken. Then she tried to get me to the repair department before canceling but I stopped her and got her to cancel it. I then asked her for a refund of my $8 for the Xbox Live that I wasn't going to use and she said no that she couldn't do that. So then I looked on their website and it said that you get the money refunded for the amount of days you don't use it so I told her that. Then she said well what website are you on so I told her and she went there. Then she read the same thing back to me and was like well we don't normally do this so I said yes you do, it says so right on your website so she told me she would make a special exception this time. Then she said she would transfer me to the repair department.
15 minutes later a person finally answered, then they asked what I could help them with so I said repairs. She then said alright I can transfer you over there so I asked why I hadn't already been transferred there. Then she said I am repairs... So I said no your not, you just said you were going to transfer me there. She said she could either help me or not, it was up to me. So then she asked the dumbest question I've ever been asked, she said why do you want to repair it? I was literally stunned, why would I want to repair it? So then I said ummm because it's broken. She then said well how did it break so I said it broke because you released a product that overheats itself. She then said well what have you done so far so I said everything that it says to online. Then she asked well tell me exactly what you've done so far so I said that I didn't remember. So then she said well you need to tell me so I googled xbox 360 lights and went to microsofts page about what to do. It said to unplug it and wait for 10 seconds so I said that. Then she said well what else so I said nothing, that's all it says to do on your website. She then told me she would send me a box in the mail to mail the xbox back, I asked her how long it would be till I got it back and she said 3-4 weeks. This is crazy, I hate Microsoft.
A charge of $27.08 appeared again (after it stopped in July) on my Visa account. It was a big, evil mistake that I agreed to my 9-year old grandson's pleading to get him a membership with X-live. I thought it was a one-time thing, but it kept on and I told my grandon's father (my son) if this was right. In the meantime he (my son) got him a full year membership. Why IS THE CHARGE APPEARING AGAIN ON MY VISA? I hate getting in touch with Msft Xbox live because, as the blog complaints above say, it's a great big hassle of "who's on first? Who is on first" numbers, passwords, yahoo ID (my son's), hidden codes. BILL GATES - will you do something about this?
In total frustration, I canceled my visa account, so X-live does not go on Live again and eat part of my small social security pension!
I have had a terrible time with Microsoft.
Well my account got compromised so I cancelled the credit card but not in time. The guy who compromised the account spent over £100.00 on my card so I spent about 4 hours in total on the phone with Microsoft. They said they'd email me in up to 7 days with the results...it's been 4 months still nothing !
My sons XBOX360 crashed after precisely when he downloaded an authorized MS upgrade... ! Have been on phone about 6 times over 3 weeks trying to excalate the issue to Customer Service, that it was not our fault...(He did as instructed) They say it was a coincidence...(Huh?)
Final response...I stated to Tier 3 support that they have corrupted the consoles randomly with MALWARE to generate revenue for King Bill...! I am going to research Playstation3 and sell off his 360 discs...2.14.11

Now, let us consider that by chance your xbox is not the only xbox being sent in for repairs, you might have to wait a couple weeks for an available tech to either perform said repairs or completely replace the guts of your xbox, since you have most likely you tubed the towel fix and fried the CPU. I would suggest using this wait period to go outside and get some fresh air, maybe exercise a little. Also, believe it or not, Microsoft is ready and willing to pro-rate your account or offer you free MS Points for the inconvenience, all you have to do is ask ... As for the dummies that still can't figure out how to get their 360 to talk nicely with their router, it's real simple ... open web browser -->enter router ip address --> when router setup opens, find "dmz" settings and pick a random number for the last group ... this is now your xbox 360's ip address --> go to port forwarding --> using that same ip address and open ports 88 - 3074, both TCP and UDP, name that rule XBlive --> Save settings and close browser --> enter network config on xbox 360 and change settings to match what you just created --> manual config., enter same ip address as "dmz" --> for example: ip address - 192.168."2".15 / subnet - 255.255.255.0 / default gateway - 192.168."2".1 ... save settings --> primary DNS - 192.168."2".1 ... save settings --> FYI : The ip address, default gateway and primary DNS must have the same number for the 3rd group ... --> connect to xbox live and VOILA!
Xbox Live Customer Service learn how to handle customers you have [censor]ed out of their hard earned cash. When there is a problem that is your problem listen and make it right for your customers. Not everybody is out to get you. My complaint is legitimate but after an hour on the phone I am spent. Four levels of managerial customer service reps. [censor]! Who do you think you are the U.S. Government. I hope your entire infrastructure collapses before your very eyes without any notice. Go [censor] yourselves. Learn how to treat your customers and grow your business with dignity instead of pure greed.

I have had the 360 since june of 2005. In june 0f 2008 had the 3 red rings...barely made it in the 3 year warrenty. Sent it in, they fixed a few minor issues and sent it back. August of 2008 I was deployed until nov 2009, the xbox stayed in the US and was not played. Today I turn on the 360 and it has the 3 red rings. So after they "repaired" it, I got a total of 8 months of use.
I called and talked to several people(including supervisors) and spent 3 hours on the phone. The solution...spend 100 to send it in again. They said since its out of the 3 year warrenty and 1 year warrenty from the repair, this would be the only solution(or have a 400 piece of [censor] laying around).
This is a joke. I have had the old xbox for 8 years and has sat next to my 360 the whole time. I have never had any issues with the xbox, but the 360 breaks twice in half the amount of time. I put probably close to twice as much time on the xbox as well.
So now I can either spend the 100 to fix something the obviously is going to break in another 13 months(just outside of a new warrenty) or buy a whole new xbox for 200 or I guess eat the 4000 I invested already and switch to ps3.

Types of cyber crime are like this
1).Un authorized Access in to any Computer or Server, Website, E-Mails of International Organizations, Government Organizations, Banks or personnel for collecting information.
2). Un Authorized use of name, logo, Format of International Organizations, Government Organizations, Banks for money transaction.
3).Fake E-Commerce Sites.
4).Building Porno sites.
5).Blackmailing people by making or collecting nude picture.
6).E-Mail threatening.
Any of these attempts can make the whole nation or individual’s life unstable.
Cyber crime protection :
Even though cyber crime detection and prevention is a tough thing but it is not impossible. For this we will have to work with a very big chain of government and technical organizations together. Cause a single person or a single country can’t do it. It should be taken step from the root level.
1). E-Mail id should be created and verified by Citizen ID card and Passport number and this database can be verified from anywhere for that particular person. Like I want to create one ID in Gmail – when I register for the email, they will verify my ID and Passport number from our country Citizen Database server. Like this from any country for any person this verification is very important.
2). Intel and all other motherboard company, Microsoft, IBM, SUN should develop and upgrade this Fingerprint technology, and this technology will be built-in with each and every motherboard, every computer will run by its exact digital identity. E-Mail sites registration policy should be integrated for fingerprint verification, to take the image of fingerprint and save it into their database.
3). Serious punishment system for the crime, so the criminal will know if he or she commit any crime so that they knows that what will happen if they are caught.
4). Software and applications should be integrated with country government server globally, these applications can send and receive the data of daily new citizen ids, and the daily sales tax collection of every business and personnel. Globally ID Card database system still not integrated to share globally to verify any id from any location like from a bus station or any hospital.
These steps I can’t take it by my own. It should be proposed by every countries responsible ministry and come to a decision. I know it might be not possible for now, but some day this will be the only way and technology to stop cyber crime and detect every single individual in the web.

I Have had my Xbox for about a year now (one of the Infamous). And I received the Three Red Lights, like everyone that has Bought a 360 within the first year! So, it was still in Warranty and I sent it back to Microsoft, and well it was fixed! Or was it? So, after about two months of Playing, and enjoying the system, I started to Notice some funny things, such as the screen becoming choppy and the Voices, and some Sound was knocked out! Then the Water Broke, that’s when it started to FREEZE! Well, of course ya man was tight, AGAIN! This BS Started happening again, after not even two full Months?!?!? I purposely marked up my 360 before I sent it in the first time, too see if I would get back MY 360 (not a Refurb), to my surprise it was a Refurb ( I think). Well, my cousin had the same issue w/ the Three Red Lights, and told me that when he sent it back to Microsoft "They Sent Him A Refurb Console". But, that's not all...
I Call The Support AGAIN, and went through the BS with the "Techs", and they Truly were no Help! I Told them everything that was wrong, and what do these "Monkeys" Tell me? They say "Sir, your warranty is up, and you will have to pay"... Are you Stupid!? I sent it to the Service Center Broke, and they send it back, as it was when I sent it to them! Regardless of if it's my same 360, or a Refurb ! If it was fixed then there is no need for me speaking to Support..Right? Well, I ask for a Supervisor, and they tell me that all they can do is give me 50% Discount... NOT ENOUGH! I stress that I want this to be fixed for free, and that it is no fault of my own, that your center has sent this back to me BROKE!
So, after battling for position in this matter, I finally got a somewhat good deal. There where able to give me a 75% plus a 1 year warranty and free shipping and handling... Well Alright! So, yes I took the offer, paid the $34 and sent it to the Service Center, happy and all that good stuff! Really?!?! Right! About a week later, I receive my 360 back, thinking I could get back to my gaming, and what is to my surprise!? These A-Holes to the [censored]s, have sent back my console as is, because the state that I tampered with the console, and that voids the warranty... WHAT WARRANTY! I paid to have the it fixed, how is this voiding the warranty? This is where is becomes unthinkably ugly! Of course I call the Service Center, and raise Fire... I explain that there no one tampered with this console and that I paid to have it fixed, so this is not a void of anything! Well, I speak to two different Supervisors that were of no help to me. I explained my situation and still no answer or solution!
Here is what the Letter sent in return of my 360: "Dear Xbox Enthusiast, An inspection of your console has revealed that tampering or attempted tampering of the console has occurred. The WARRANTY is voided as a result of these actions. In addition, Microsoft is unable to offer repair services for a tampered Xbox console. Therefore, the console is being returned to you as-is, not repaired. If you were charged, you will be refunded by check. If you have further questions, please contact the Xbox call center..."
Now this all happen within the last month, and I spoke to another rep. that said my check will not be issued to me for SIX WEEKS! They put me through all of this, take my money send back my console, and tell me that I wont get my money for SIX WEEKS! WTF! I raise more hell, and now I am at this point where I need help from all who are reading this. I am reporting this to Microsoft and Better Business, and whomever else I can! I have a Xbox 360 and was reading on the complaints which are vicious I am surprised microsoft has continued doing so well with the sale of this gaming console. My problem is why is does microsoft charge additional fee's to utilize netflix on the game when the other gaming systems doesn't. I'm highly irritated I already pay for netflix. Is this suppose to be microsofts plan to piss customers off or is it just me. It appears that the problems with Wii are less invassive with hard ware and the fact you can log into your netflix acct with out additional gouging charges.
After purchasing a XBOX 360 ( the newer S version) I started having problems with the power brick losing power and displaying a red light ( according to the folks at the retailer the internal breaker was going off). Needless to say the retailer didnt have any to swap out and recommended that I contact Microsoft. I did so and the support rep informed me that I would have to send in the brick so they can send me a new one. i was hesitant, seeing that I had only been using this unit for less than a month, but I was ready to to do so. Right before getting off the phone I inquired about some options that would minimize my downtime, I was told that they could send me a new brick and a box as well in order to ship the old one back ( hey I figured I just shelled out some money to get the console it didn't make sense that I pay more to get it fixed...kinda like going in for a warranty repair on your vehicle and them charging you money to drive it to the dealership...but I digress) Being satisfied with my encounter I resigned myself to waiting... Well five business days go by and still nothing. Thinking to myself that the ice storm we had may have slowed down the shipment i waited another day or two. Well then I followed up via the website (ref# [protected] in case you're curious) and promptly received a call that they were still waiting for my power brick. Thinking to myself that I could call and they could look up my transcript from the previous support rep and get all this cleared up in a juf. Well I couldn't be further from what was to happen, the first rep decided to not only put me on hold X3 ( politely I may add) then he begins to spout policy like it was cannonical scripture. I informed him that I was aware of the return process in place but I was also informed of there ability to replace the broken item as well ( which I was promised). Not being satisfied with the answer I informed him that this is not a personal attack but I wanted to escalate this issue to his manager. I was informed that he was in a meeting and would return my call within the next 2-4 hours. Well surprisingly enough a gentleman named "Micheal" who was alleging to be a manager basically told me that that is the process in which they do things. When pressed about the sending power bricks to users I was told that as of January they no longer did such things ( convenient huh...thats what I told him.) He then proceeded to tell me that he could investigate by reviewing the transcript, "if they are available" it but it would take longer and I might as well just send it in... In other words "tuff [censored]". At this point it was no longer about getting what was promised to me it was about customer service. Hey I dont live in a glass house I have been involved with Tech support and been around a lot of call centers so my initial expectations were low. But this was a true slap in the face and I feel I owe it to all the people out there to realize that no matter how they spin the idea of having great support the only thing they are interested in is the all mighty dollar ( no surprise there huh?). So I told Micheal that rather than sending one in I was going to purchase a another unit ( I know thats what they want me to do...but I have too much invested in games ...for now at least ) and asked him to escalate it further. We'll see if they will bother calling. Unit then I have a few hours to burn, Google to use and I can cut and paste this.) caveat emptor...
I bought a new xbox in november of 2007. I have sent it back to get fixed and was sent a replacement xbox. Last couple months I have been getting 3 flashing red lights, then tonight I come home to E80 "system error" and that it will cost 119.99 to get fix because I am out of warranty. I asked why mine keeps breaking I was told other people have had theirs since day one and it is still working and therefore, its due to way I was handling the machine.
in nov i bought the 360 for my 12 year old for xmas on dec 6 i lost my 16 year old daughter in a car wreck so i gave my son his present early almost from the start the red ring occured i called and thay said send it back obout a month later here came a new one i was pleased a few months ago it started cutting rings in the disk and teck support told me it had to be dropped or moved because their machines cannot i repeat cannot malfunction without this occuring a machine that cannot malfunction so now im lying in 54 years noone with any sence had ever called me that to my face so0 im alittle mad make it right microsoft of have an enemy for life
I spoke with a customer service rep supervisor named MARY. She told me they couldn't give out last names. But she was RUDE!
They cannot tell me where, when, how, or why my package has NOT been shipped yet. They tell me it was shipped on the 31st of July, then they said the 2nd of August. Now, they won't tell me if it has or has not been shipped. This is August 6th.
She told me it was MY responsibility to find out where it was. HELLO! Ya'll shipped it to ME! She was rude, tasteless and hung up on me at the end of conversation because she said I got loud with her. She was RIGHT! But I didn't get UGLY, I just wanted to know where it is! But I STILL DO NOT KNOW!
I bought the xbox 360 in 2007, I have had nothing but problems. I have had to send it back, I have had to call numerous times. Now when downloading the mandatory update I have a bricked xbox, and because it is out of warranty and they want me to pay 120 dollars to get it fixed. I have been promised 3 calls, once from a manager and 2 times from tech team and I have yet to receive a call back.
I purchased my first xbox on the uk launch date. For 6 months everything was fine, then the screen froze. I sent it back and they replaced it within a week. 3 months later the same happened again, and again, and again. On one occasion i received a console that wouldnt even turn on! And now on my 5th xbox360 the same has happened. But this time they have had it for 3 weeks. And i cant seem to get through to anyone who knows where it is. Not sure what to do. Would prefer my money back than have to go through all this again.
My sons xbox which is not even 1 year old is broken. He has had 3 red lights appear and when i called the helpline they told me the problem was the power pack. 2 weeks later i received the wrong power pack . I phoned to complain and was told they would send the right one, at which time i asked the advisor if she knew exactly what part i was referring to as i did not want the same mistake made, she went for advice and then told me yes she was sending the right part... Lo and behold this time due to the postal strike it was at least 3 weeks later and they sent me a plug and not a power pack. I then called again to complain and asked to speak to a supervisor, who i was informed you cannot be put straight through to, and would call me back within 48 hours. After speaking to the supervisor and expressing my disgust at the service and the length of time it has taken, i was offered a complimentary gift, which i have since received, but still no power pack. I then called again on thursday 1 november and spoke to an adivsor but this time i wanted to be put straight through to the supervisor. Once again i had to wait for the supervisor to call me back. 120 hours later and i have still not heard form the supervisor. I am breaking point as my son has not been able to play his xbox for more than 2 months and i am paying for xbox live and cannot use it. My son is having difficulty understanding that something can take so long.

I ordered my xbox 360 on march 30, 2007. The expected delivery dates between June 7 and June 21. It still hasn't arrived. I know that the address is correct because I did receive another package ordered on the same day not a week later. This is over 300 dollars that I don't have anything for. I either need to get my money back soon or need my xbox 360. I'm very disappointed with Amazon, with whom I have been doing business with for the past 3 years.
Yesterday my Xbox 360 Started to flash red around the power button. I tried to check power supply and everything, finally I looked on the internet and found out that in fact my system just plain failed due to a manufacturer error. My system is 3 years old and now out of warranty... the thing that really angers me is that how can a company make such a crappy product that is self-destructs just after your warranty is up? They are making huge money on having people repurchase systems.
I either have to pay over $100 for a repair, purchase a shoddy "guide" online to fix it in under 1 hour... yeah right, or purchase an entirely new system. My response is to sell all my 360 games and go straight PS3... since I've had that longer and it's working great still.
I just had to voice my disappointment as I've never been so disappointed in a product so much in my life.
windows vista upgrade rebate not received
When I purchased my E-Machines (Gateway) computer from Best Buy in December 06, I was told I would receive a free Vista Upgrade disc. I filled out the rebate form which was on the sales receipt and mailed off the form mid February o7. On April 22, o7, I received a correspondence from the Microsoft Vista Upgrade Redemption Center, aka Moduslink dated for 3/13/07 informing me that I would have to file online for the rebate and return to them an order number to verify the order.
Their web site (Moduslink) was not for acquiring the rebate but for ordering new discs of the Vista program. The only way I could get the Vista disc was to order it online. I received 1-800 numbers that only lead to a recording and then a dial tone, I received bogus order numbers from email contacts that their web site would not accept. In the end their web site refused any of my information; from model number, COA number or Serial number. I was then told by Moduslink I had to get the Vista disc from E-Machines (Gateway).
E-Machines, Gateway and Microsoft then inturn informed me that they had no authority over Moduslink and that Moduslink were the only ones that had authority to dispense the Vista disc.
To date I have not received the Vista Upgrade disc that I was told I would receive as a rebate and Moduslink refuses to acknowledge my claim for the rebate or to send me the disc. E-Machines, Gateway and Microsoft all deny any responsibility toward fulfilling the rebate offer.
I read the e-mail from Steve Akers above and thought I had posted it. I have the same situation. I received 3 order numbers, sent multiple faxes showing proof of purchase, kept getting e-mails from them that didn't make any sense, & have been told several times(by e-mail) I must now purchase Vista since the promo is over.
I tell you, if I ever get my hands on whoever is responsible I'm going to wring their neck! This is not likely though since their sneaky like Al qaeda. Does anyone know where the heck they are or how to contact them?
It's not that I want the Vista so badly but just to force Moduslink to deliver what was promised. I'm up for any lawsuit. I still have all e-mail docs showing their many order numbers which shows how screwed up their database was.
I to am very frustrated with this rebate. I purchased two Gateway computers back in January and filled all paperwork. After repeated attempts, they sent me two toshiba discs instead of Gateway discs. I sent the two back to them on 8/1/07 and have had no correspondance since. If there is a class action suit, I would be more than willing to be a part of it, since all you get is recordings saying the upgrade redemption is past and the email is a form letter stating the same.
Has anybody received any resolution, or is there a hungry lawyer willing to take on the big guys

It happened to me too. First, the site i went to said approved... then today i checked it again, and it said canceled. What is this all about? I tried calling the customer service number, and got a recording saying to send an e-mail. I sent an e-mail, and they replied by giving me the same freaking number to call! Does anyone have any clue how to get a live person on the phone with moduslink?
Me too! I'm no idiot... I filled out the paperwork as requested and and got some slip saying i didn't fill it out correctly. BS. So then i faxed every piece of paper work i had to the company and still nothing. My link from them says order approved but there is no shipping date.
I suggest you contact the fraud unit of your states Attorney General's Office. Also, that you write a letter to Best Buy, enclosing copies of the documentation for your Vista disk, and demand that they furnish you with a Vista disk or face a lawsuit as did CompUSA over rebates not delivered on merchandise that they sold. Send the letter certified mail so that you can prove receipt. You should find the corporate address for Best Buy on the Internet.
I also bought a (Gateway) computer at Best Buy in January '07 with the "free Vista upgrade" promise and subsequently sent in ALL of the information requested. Recently, AFTER the promotion expiration date, I got a letter stating that they were unable to process my request due to "order number not provided," along with a web address to look it up. The Moduslink web page requests an order number in order to look up your info! THIS IS COMPLETELY FRAUDULENT. (I was aware that many of these rebate enticements were designed to make it difficult to actually be redeemed, so I was VERY careful to supply everything requested, including a return receipt).
These scams are obviously designed to entice a purchase while virtually guaranteeing that few, if any customers will be able to get back their rebate. By enlisting an outside agent (Moduslink?), Gateway and Best Buy can try to shield themselves from liability.
Any info. re. a class action claim would be appreciated.

Same problem with my ACER. I think they had a lot of orders and to discard some of those they did this "carobacy". They say that the VAT number isn't correct or credit card not verified... ###! Now they say we lost the right to the upgrade, as the systems are closed. My credit card information and VAT number were correct, and they did this to 2 orders for 2 machines.
I too am ready to sue MODUSLINK, GATEWAY, and MICROSOFT.
They actually did ship my "express upgrade" -- albeit not until March 29th. Then they STONEWALLED me on providing any shipping/tracking info. Yesterday I learned that they totally screwed up my address, and the package was returned as "undeliverable" a month ago. My requests (via telephone & email) for them to re-send it have run up against the infamous MODUSLINK STONEWALL.
...And of course Gateway and Microsoft deny any responsibility. Let's see if the courts agree.
By the way -- to put Microsoft, et al in perspective -- I ordered i'Life '06 for my Macintosh Powerbook last week from Apple.com. It arrived less than 48 hours later ... Free shipping ... and I got an educational discount.

I also bought a Toshiba Notebook computer with the free VISTA Premium Upgrade package.
I bought from BEST BUY on December 18, 2006. I had the people a BEST BUY fill out the required REBATE RECEIPT information. I mailed this to the proper address on January 7, 2007.
On Febuary 20th my wife and I left for Florida, we returned home on April 7 to find in the mail the same form you mentioned above, (you left out the confirmation order number) so on Easter Sunday I tried to go on line, every time I submitted the information it came back (invalid characters entered) spent over 3 hours trying. On April 11 2007 I finaly got online and got a confirmation number and mailed it to P.O.box 1918 (you know the rest).
On April 30, 2007 I received the same form saying I need a confirmation order number. I called the number to be told it no longer active?
I went to BEST BUY the manger said That not his problem, its is TOSHIBA's. Or I made a Mistake.
The only mistake I made is trusting BEST BUY
and Toshiba.
I really think it is a scam they ran to sell computers.

Last week, I called in to see if I could get a power supply that works in India as I am planning to pack that for my son who is going to India. Call 1 (4/8/2007): In the first call the person said something to the effect that I need to purchase the whole system for India, when I was trying to see if I could but the power supply and Power cord, I got disconnected (my bad).
Call 2 (4/8/2007): So I call up again and explained that I had lost the connection and I was looking for a whole power supply kit that will work in India. The person responded if I needed a power cord or just the brick, I check the price and said send me both.
Today (4/13/2007): I received the prower supply only (not the cord and does not seem to be new, this is not the issue). When I checked the power specification, it is the same as the one I have (shipped originally with the console), so I call up the call center and say that I did not receive the correct power supply. After explaining couple of times and being on hold for several minutes for couple of time the person, told me that I will need to buy a transformed in India. (Initial this person did not even know the voltage in India). On which I said, I wanted to return this power supply as it is of no use to me. He tried to convince me to keep it and take it India, I said I do not want to carry two power supply as they are bulky and do not solve my problem. He then transfered me to his supervisor (I believe Allen), who after understanding my issues put me on hold for server minutes and came back with a answer that he has escalated it to Microsoft and it will take 5-8 day and I should hang on to this power cord. Then he said something that was troubling me.
He said that my request to use in India was made only today. This is ridiculous as the whole purpose of the call and to get the power cord was to use in India. He also added that he has reviewed the calls I have made and said that I have not told them that I wanted to use in India. When I asked him if he could replay my conversation for me he declined. I even confronted with him that I had a conversation regarding PAL and NTSC system on the first call.
Now, I have two question as a Microsoft customer what are my options.
1) Microsoft is selling XBOX 360 in India and don't they have original power supply that work in India.
2) Don't I as a consumer have a right to return an item that I have just purchased with a certain time period.
I completely agree with you. Actually the situation here in India is absurd for most manufacturers, but right now, MS is the one that really gets my goat. My brother bought a console in Dubai and when he shifted back home this year the power supply conked off in a month or so. I got a replacement from Dubai because MS refused to provide one and it conked of again a couple of days ago. Obviously I am pissed. But the most infuriating thing is the attitude at MS. I understand why they have a policy regarding warranty support in India, but not providing spares when one is willing to pay for it is ridiculous. First, you can easily penalise customers for buying grey by charging for parts instead of warranty support. Or even charge slightly higher for the part to serve as a deterrent. But going even beyond that, surely there is a way to manage this in a way that differentiates between fair use and unfair use from their perspecitive.
I have similar problem. I bought one from US and took that in India. Now Microsoft tells me that I need to buy a whole new xbox 360 and they cannot sell me a xbox 360 power cord... this is ridiculous.

Son bought Xbox360 on the first day available 11/05. It has had two hardware failures since then, both outside of 90 day warranty. Both times we have insisted that MS replace unit at no charge due to State of Maine law prohibiting limitation of implied warranty/merchantability for up to four years of coverage. Incidental and consequential damages are also NOT disallowed.
MS customer service is an oxymoron. They constantly try to get you to think there is nothing they can do and that you have not choice but to pay for all repair costs. Yet, I have them picking up my defective unit at their charge and have them replacing it with a new one. It DID take six phone calls and much time on phone on hold and non-English foreigners AND emailing the VP for MS Customer Service and Support.
PLEASE check you state's 'consumer protection' laws - either on web or by calling - because MOST states have laws on books giving you BETTER warranty than that stated in owner's manual. GET a copy of the law and BE persistent and UNWAVERING in your demands. The place where you purchased it is ALSO EQUALLY responsible to the buyer! Bring it back for a new/replacement unit and BRING THE LAW copy.
IF you had items delivered - they MUST pick up at their cost or repay you for shipping back (incidental and consequential damages/costs).
DO NOT EVER EVER EVER PAY FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY unless you already know what your state covers. These RIPOFFS are the biggest part of the store profits for a given item - check out www.consumerreports.com to check this out!

We purchased a xbox 360 game system for my son Christmas 2006 and the system has stopped working 1 year and 1 month after the purchase. The warranty on this product is 1 year. Surprise surprise! After speaking with a manager at GameStop we were told that there was an extended warranty issued by Microsoft because of the problems customers have had with these game systems. The warranty was for an additional 2 years. Evidently, there have been A LOT of problems with this system. I called the number given by the manager and was told the extended warranty only covers certain problems and mine, of course, was not included. I will have to pay an additional $99 for the repair of the system on top of the almost $1000 for the game system, accessories, and games that have been purchased just over a year ago. The public should demand that these large companies be held accountable for all of the problems that they obviously know about via the repairs that come in through their repair department. I just wanted to issue a complaint to let everyone know that I would never purchase another game system from Microsoft and hopefully give information to anyone thinking of purchasing one. I am also hopeful that if enough people issue complaints and speak up that something may be changed and maybe that they will not think of us as just another number and actually start thinking of us as customers.
i got the 3 red lights i got the old your warrentee has run out sir u must pay £65 to fix it and then said i had to use a credit card which i dont have so im writing a complaint email and letter to every available microsoft division till i get an answer as the one that went to xbox support replied and i quote "to check on your xbox repair please vist xbox.com " that was it i wrote a big email comlaining of my problem the lousy support i recieved and asking for answers on what to do next to get it fixed and thats what i got what a jip how do they survive on repeat custom ?.
I really loved the brief time that i have gotten to use my 360
but it doesn"t work now an i can"t find any one to fix it!

My original console lasted about 8 months before I got a new one and now after another 9 months will not read media and turns off randomly
I called again and they said only the 3 red lights are covered for free...and I had to pay 100 bucks to get a new one.and when I refused to pay and asked for reasons why they would not stand behind their product I got the usual sorry sir B.S...and she even had the nerve to tell me that it sounds like the three red lights are probably going to happen and to call back when that happens.But it won't read any cds, if I can't use it how are the red lights going to happen!
I for one have had it with Microsoft and will be going to get a nice new PS3 (That will work for more than a few months)...If you want to get back at microsoft, just spread the word.Let anyone who is thinking about buying a system know that the 360 is a pile of CRAP and the support sucks!

Personally, I had a RROD a while back and whilst frustrating, I though Microsoft handled the whole thing very well. I had my console returned within 2 weeks and it has worked perfectly since. It was still in warranty however when it failed.
I've read a lot of these comments on here and if your machine is out of warranty, anything Microsoft does is a bonus for you. It's time that us consumers started being a little sharper when it comes to purchasing. If Microsoft (or any other company for that matter) are only offering a 1 or 2 year manufacturer’s warranty with a product at point of sale then that should be the warning sign for us. Just don't buy it if that bothers you or you want to act like it's someone else's problem when it goes wrong OR take out extended the extended warranty which a lot of retailers offer.
NB. If you 'tamper' with your console and void the warranty you're an idiot (Richard S!). Any manufacturer would tell you to get lost if you did that - Whining to Bill Gates won’t change a thing!
As for the so called 'solution' of buying a PS3 - I have one of those too and rarely touch it. Sure it may have a blu-ray player but the online experience is awful. You couldn't tear me away from XBOX live - I can just download movies and reclaim the space I used to use for storing DVDs. I'll keep my 360 thanks!
This is typical of Microsoft and their so called Xbox support team! I've been trying to get them to repair my sons Xbox with the RROD. They took it away, and returned it saying no warranty as it had been tampered with. The thick ###s in support just kept repeating this line when I tried to speak to them - then I had to wait two days for a supervisor to call me back (Only after emailing them a few times). he then said that he wouldn't do anything more and wouldn't escalate the matter as this was as far as I could go as a customer!
I then emailed Microsoft HQ in Reading, UK (details can be found on the website - just send to press office for attn of the MD) Two days later I get a phone call from Tim Carpenter who was an escalation manager (so much for the "this is as high as you can go" attitude from Xbox Support Supervisor!)
He re-iterated the same company mantra about the console being tampered with and that they would repair it under the terms of the warranty. The unit had no warranty 2 months previously and Microsoft wanted £65 upfront to repair it! It's only recently that they have extended the warranty because of the MANUFACTURING DEFECT. Any nice but dim Tim couldn't or rather wouldn't proceed any further and has now told me the Xbox has been "flagged" on their system so it cannot ever be reapired or looked at by Microsoft even though its their defect.
I've sent emails to USA HQ (Bill Gates and the CEO), but dont expect any response. microsoft seem to think they can ride roughshod over all their consumers and clearly customer service is not high on their agenda. Even the EU commissioner wrote to them to ask for an explanation as to why so many units were failing.

In february 2009 i was playing gears of war 2 on my elite then all of a sudden my tv started displaying different colours, so i turned my xbox off, switched it back on again and got the ring of death.So next day i rang the repair line to tell them about the problem and they told i would have to pay £82 to have it repaired so angrily i told the guy to f****ff i aint payin for it, so still angry about what happened i left it to the next day, so DAY2 i rang them again told them the same story, but this time because i didnt know my mobile number coz i lost my phone, they said they wud only put me as A SECOND HAND OWNER?A SECOND HAND OWNER, SO I PAYED OVER £400 QUID FOR THIS PILE OF ### TO BE A SECOND HAND OWNER!So i put the phone down again.DAY3 After reading on the internet from an executive of some sort from microsoft that he guaranteed a 3 year warranty for the ring of death, because i found that out i went to the phone box AGAIN, but yet this woman insisted that i pay £82 for repair, still angry from what happened i asked her to put the manager on.BUT ### ME 2MINS LATER SHE CAME BACK ON THE PHONE AND WAS HAPPY TO TELL ME THAT IT WAS GONNA BE DONE FOR FREE.So basically if you ask for the manager you get it done for free BECAUSE THE LAZY ### COULDNT BE ARSED COMIN TO THE PHONE AND YOU WERE SO HAPPY TO RIP ME OFF WHEN I KNEW I WAS IN THE RIGHT ### YOU AND DEATH TO MICROSOFT!P.S. In December 2006, my family and myself purchased one of the infamous XBOX 360 consoles for my young son. By May 2007 it broke down - three red rings - sounds familiar? Sent it to Microsoft XBOX customer services. They patched it up and returned it 2 months later, after several phone calls. No apologies for lack of service and two paltry games by way of compensation. Christmas Eve 2008 - surprise, surprise! XBOX breaksdown same fault - 3 red rings. Several phone calls later, with every assistant promising a refund of my money, I have been informed today that the XBOX will only be repaired again and thats it. NO THAT IS NOT IT!
Can I remind all users out there that YOU are the consumer and Microsoft needs YOUR market share to survive! They knowingly sold an unsafe, faulty and potentially DANGEROUS good in their haste to gain the market share of such consoles. The decent thing would have been to RECALL the consoles but they continue to LIE to consumers about their product in the hope that the warrenties will expire JUST before the consoles break down again (and I assure you they will)
The service by Microsoft is shoddy, their customer service operators are surly and arrogant and I can only imagine that this briefing comes from above. However, I will pose this question to gamers - if you purchased a HD flat screen tv for the same amount of money as your console, would you put up with it overheating in your home and put up with the lacklasture and patronising service you have received so far?
C'MON EVERYONE WAKE UP! Individually all we can do is moan on sites like this and get mad but collectively we can get even. And believe XBOX doesn't want us to get even in an economic downturn. Lets get together and sort this out before one of us ( if it hasn't happened already) fries in our bedroom.

I am writing in complaint to bring to your attention the trouble I have received in trying to have the Xbox sent back to you for warranty repair / replacement.
I have called three times waiting for the email to advise me of the postal details to have the Xbox returned. The first call was made to Donna in Late June, receipt number [protected], the second call was made on Saturday to Michael on the 1st of July 2006, and the third was made today to Jake. The problems I have received in trying to speak to the individuals concerned are ridiculous. The language barrier is preposterous, thick accents that are barely audible is somewhat of a joke.
My main concern is that the Xbox was a Birthday gift to my eight year old son from his Biological Father who does not live close by! He is unable to play his xbox at all, games are very expensive and he should not have to wait this long to have anything done about the problem. The machine is sitting in his room doing absolutely nothing and it’s not fair to an eight year old to have to look at it and wish to be able to use it! Not to mention the costs involved for myself in logging on to wait for an email that has not arrived!
I am totally disgusted in the amount of time it has taken the xbox helpline to send the details needed and I am going to ring the consumer hotline and complain incessantly to them to bring the standards of your employees up to date. I have no problem in the way they have treated me or spoken to me but the blasé way they have treated my sons situation is totally ignorant and not fair.
What should have been an easy and straightforward resolution to this problem has turned into a total nightmare and I am frankly not happy at all with the situation!
