agreed to purchase 250 gallons of propane at 2.99 gallon...now they say that I signed a contract that demands that I signed up for automatic refills (to be topped off) thru June of 2011 at market rate per gallon, even if I dont want or need more gas...that I have no choice but have to buy more gas thru june even when i dont use gas but for winter heating...! I cannot stop them from topping off tanks at 6 or 7 dollars a gallon...they said it was in contract...I cannot find this in contract, and they say that it is...if it is there, then the language that they are using is very deceptive deliberately designed to confuse to deceive the public into signing up to be gouged!
I do not know what to do at this point because they are holding all the cards...

Suburban is nothing but a scam. I bought two 100 pound tanks to be rid of them, they show up and fill my tank when it is over 75percent full and then charge a $65 delivery fee. Picked up the tank and now want to pay me back for half what I paid for the propane. Do yourself a favor buy a 100 pound tank from Lowe's and take it to fill yourself it is manageable by yourself and will save you tons of cash. I bought 2 when one is empty switch to the other and fill the empty one. I don't heat my home however only use for stove grill and gas logs. Suburban is crooks no doubt about it.

I feel SUBURBAN is a rip off. They don't care about their customers at all. I have been with them for 15 years and the totally ripped me off this year. And try to talk to someone is a joke. They say they will call me back but never happens. They should be shut down.. The BIGGEST CROOKS I have ever seen.

I totally agree with all. Just received propane from suburban today and it is $5.45/gallon! Looked up New Jersey average prices for today is $3.00 and change per gallon. Suburban has done this to us for the past 3 yrs. This will be the last time they do this to us. We have a woodstove, and they are telling me it cost $1600.00 for 2 months to heat my 1200 square foot house! And where is the government/state regulations for propane? There are regulations for other heating utilities. I just feel sorry for the older people who just go ahead and pay there bills without even looking. Suburban Propane are nothing but crooks.

I'm having the same problem. My last bill from Suburban Propane in Washington, NJ was for $5.06 per gallon! This is price gouging of the worst kind. Evidently, I missed a postcard from Suburban sent last July that would have allowed me to lock in a lower price per gallon. I take responsibility missing the postcard but they should at least charge me the current market rate for the propane. The U.S. Department of Energy website shows an average market price of $3.40 per gallon for the Eastern U.S. Mid-Atlantic States for the week of 1/10/11. It seems Suburban is using my missed lock in as an opportunity to charge whatever they want. Suburban owns the propane tank on my property and won't allow me to buy propane from any other supplier using that tank. Beyond that, I've requested a description of my options for buying the tank outright or having it removed but they haven't provided the information or returned any of my calls. I'm really feeling stuck...
