I just had a really bad experience with Remington's "All That" hair dryer. I purchased one a while back and it worked really good for a few months before it suddenly blew up on me. It began making a rattling sound and then clouds of smoke shot out of the dryer. I figured that this was some kind of freak accident. I purchased another All That hair dryer because it has worked really well until it exploded on me. I had the new dryer for about 6-7 months (estimate) and it was working great also. This morning I was drying my 3 year old's hair and out of nowhere it exploded on me again. It began the same rattling sound and then began smoking really bad. All of the sudden it began making really loud exploding sounds. Thank God my daughter ran away from the dryer because after I cut it off and unplugged it she came back into the restroom and began picking up pieces of debris that the hair dryer was shooting out. I contacted Remington's customer service department because I wanted them to know what had happened so that they could investigate the problem and prevent it from happening to anyone else. The lady I talked to seemed to believe I was lying about it and interrupted me several times telling me that nothing like this has ever happened with their products before. She gave me a case number and told me that if I sent the product back to them they would investigate and send me a new one. She never asked about the sounds the dryer was making or what kind of debris ejected the dryer ect. All she asked was if I had ever dropped it. SHE NEVER ASKED IF MY DAUGHTER WAS O.K. This really upset me because she could have been hurt badly had she not ran away. I am very upset with the experience and lack of customer service. I was not calling to get another dryer, I was calling to let them know that their product was dangerous. Why would I even want another dryer by them? The only two I have ever had exploded! I know that there is not anything you can do but I did read your article on hair dryers and wanted to let you know my experience.

Thank you,
Michelle Dillard.

I have a Remington blow dryer. My first one caught fire on vacation but I also figured it was old (2 years). I bought a new one a year ago and this morning, my cord started shooting sparks and then shot a huge spark from the bottom. It burned my breast pretty bad and was blackened from the shock. I’m not sure what to do about this as of yet. This forum has really opened up my eyes to their products.

So I had a similar situation happen this morning. I was drying my hair getting ready for work when suddenly my dryer made a loud “bang” noice and started to spark sending out small pieces that looked to be copper heating elements before popping my breakers. I quickly unplugged the item and set it in the bathroom sink (no water) when I started feeling stinking on my arm. I looked down and noticed three burn marks two of which burnt the skin off. I will be contacting Remington tomorrow and if no outcome an attorney not only did this item cause harm but I am a pilot and it could have destroyed my eye sight destroying my career!

How amazed I have been to read these comments. I have used Remington Travel hair dryers because they are so light to handle. I purchased my first 2-3 years ago and it lasted a satisfactory length of time considering it's price. I eventually replaced it with another when it failed to work on low speed. The second was returned immediately because of a rattle which sounded like loose components. The third lasted approx. 2 months before it started to smell of smoke. Thinking I was just unlucky I purchased a FOURTH ! That was purchased on 1 Sept 14 and it BLEW UP on 6 Oct 14 ! My husband is at this moment returning it to Big W Morley West Australia.
Have any of you received comment or feedback due to your complaints ?

I have the Remington TStudio collection model and it just blew on me tonight. I have had it for a little over a year now and as I was drying my hair the cord (the part where it connects to the actual dryer) touched and burned my wrist. I looked at the wire as the dryer was still going and saw smoke. Just as I was going to shut it off, I heard a huge pop and sparks flew out of it and the dryer fell to the floor, severed from the wire. Needless to say, I will be calling customer service in the morning!

My 11 year old daughter just 5 minutes ago had the very same thing happen. I scared her so bad that she got physically sick. Something needs to be done about this. It is happening way to often by all the comments I'm reading. I will be contacting the company.

pretty much the same as above, wife was drying daughters hair, no warning and just started flinging out hot sharp bits of plastic so lucky daughter hadn't turned her head quickly as this could now be a very serious incident. cant believe its happened to so many others!

Hi my Remington blew up on me this morning. It made a rattling sound yesterday but I only used it for a couple of seconds so didn't pay attention to it. Next thing you know this morning the fan blades exploded. I switched it off and took a look inside and the coil was on fire. This happened to my previous Remington as well. Will not be buying the brand again. Very very dangerous.

Regarding ALL OF THESE COMMENTS: My Remington hair dryer (Model D-3310) blew up on me yesterday (September 21, 2013). Guess I was fortunate -- I used it for about one year! I was so shaken up by this experience. My ear was ringing for quite a while after it happened. All of a sudden, there was an extremely loud bang, flash of light, and then a lot of loud crackling sounds as others have explained, with the smell of burning. I was so scared and shocked, that I threw it on the floor of my bathroom. I, too, was afraid to touch the plug, but I was afraid not to for fear of fire. The loud crackling sound was scary, too, and all things considered, I had no choice but to pull the plug. There are a lot of pieces in it (probably the plastic blades). I am 71 years old and have used hair dryers for as long as I can remember, and this is an absolute first for me. I was thankful that it didn't happen when I was drying the front of my hair by my eyes! Little things flew out from it. I decided to check the internet also (as someone else mentioned) just to see if there were similar incidences, and sure enough...they are here (from back in 2008). I am definitely writing to Remington and can't believe nothing has ever been done for this extremely dangerous imperfection in this product through all these years. I felt, when I bought it) that Remington was a good brand. Wow...live and learn!

Yes, it seems to be the fan blades that blow out the heated air. When one blade breaks it destroys the rest of the blades and heating coils inside. That's what shoots out. My wife just handed me hers 10 minutes ago. There definitely needs to be some type of action on this defective and dangerous product.

My name is Greg Combs and my wife had got this same hair dryer for Christmas 2011 and it did the same thing to her. I had taken the dryer apart and found that over time the plastic fan blades that blow your hair dry get hot and cool off so many times the plastic gets brittle and the blades seperate from the base. When I took it apart several blades were melted to the heat coils. I will not get her another Remington hair dryer, as far as I have read Remington has no intensions of fixing this problem or reembursing any of the consumers who have this problem. I hope this gives all of you who have had this problem a better understanding of what went wrong. Maybe I will start taking apart all of the products that are listed having a problem from Remington and start a blog with information on what happened to the products and how they can fix the issue. If there are any questions I can be contacted at [protected].

My remington blew up yesterday. There's absolutely no other way to describe it. It shattered into 5 pieces as I was blowdrying and i instantly dropped it on the floor - it melted my carpet and my ear was ringing from the sound of the blow up all morning. All the components flew apart - i could see all the electrics of the blow dryer. Really disturbing and I'm glad my daughter wasn't in the room when it happeened.

I had a very similar experience this morning. This was my second "All That" dryer - I have always loved their size and power. They work great for long hair becuase it is lightweight - great for extended use! The first one began making the rattling sounds and sparking and smoking and I unplugged it and purchased a new one after going to work with wet hair that day. I've had my second one for several months and had no problems. A few weeks ago I could tell it was working differently - a little less power and some strange sounds. I cleaned the lint trap and made sure there was no hair caught in it. This morning while drying my hair for work it all but exploded in my hands. I heard a terrible sound and the back part of the handle is almost knocked completely off the dryer. It then made a terrible buzzing noise and I yanked the plug out of the wall before it completely caught on fire. There were sparks inside and lots and lots of smoke. I threw it in the sink and let it cool down after blowing out the sparks to keep it from burning up. I can hear all the pieces rattling around inside. I decided to look online to see if anyone else had experienced similar problems and I realize after reading the other posts how lucky I was. I'd just reached the dryer away from my head when it happened - otherwise I might not have my long hair anymore! Remington owes a lot of customers an apology and a refund! Never again will I buy their dryers no matter how much I enjoyed the design!

Talk with a lawyer. I just logged on to see if there was a recall on the same model because plastic and glass like fiber particles started shooting out of my Remington Model D-3310 and it scared the dickens out of me. A particle could have flown in my eye or in my eardrum causing damage. This calls for a lawsuit.

I bought the dryer when me and my husband went to get married to have in our room and after showering I got the dryer out and was trying to dry my hair and it made an horriable sound and got my hair really hot, I turned it off and the next day we took it back to walmart where they told us to go back and get another one .We got another one thinking the first one was just a dud and then about 3 months or so later it happen again and we took it back and was told we could just swap it out which we did and now about 4 more months later I am sitting here with my head burnt and my hair singed to my scalp I hope no one will ever buy another one and I hope this will help someone, I am not sure if I am going to talk to a lawyer or not but my husband insist that I do...Thank you for reading...Patricia

The exact same thing happened to me today. It was brand new Remington D-3310 hairdryer and I was using if for the first time. My daughter had turned it on and and told me she saw fire. I wasn't quite sure what she meant until I went to use it a few minutes later. It was making a terrible noise and when I turned it around to take a closer look, it looked like a sparkler on the 4th of July and it blew up in my face and shot out small fragments of metal. The burning smell was horrible. I too contacted the company. They replied quickly by email and said they would send a UPS mailer and wanted me to return it. I also contacted the Consumer Product SafetyCommission and was instructed to retain the hairdryer for 30 days and they will contact me. I went to the eye doctor's office to make sure there was no debris in my eyes. They have been very dry and irritated all day. Don't purchase this product!

Yes! The exact same thing happened to me. I had it for three months and it started rattling and parts started coming loose and were caught inside the dryer while running. it started smoking and making little sparks on the inside! i bought another one thinking this was a defective dryer, and it shouldn't happen again. Same thing. Im calling costumer service too. Will ask for a different model. Ive had other dryers from this company and everything has been ok with the larger ones.

Hi. The EXACT same thing happened to me this morning while using this same blow dryer. It scared me and my daughter to no end! I wanted to search the web to see if it happened to anyone else. It sounds like there are TONS of pieces rattling inside this thing. It would not shut off once it started making the noise. I was in a panic. I was afraid to touch the plug. I had NO idea what the heck was happening.
