In The Company of Dogs They trick you into joining their "club" for $15/month

There's a reason this company has over 100 reviews on yelp and they are rated as 1 star. They are extremely dishonest, particularly about how they trick people into signing up for their "club" at $15 a month. They offer you a shipping rebate and 10% off when you place your order and join their mailing list, but you are actually also joining their "club" for $15/month. And if you read other reviews for this company you will see i'm not the only that fell for this little ruse. At a minimum, they should know people are signing up for this by accident and change their site to make it more clear. The fact that they dont do that validates my assertion that they're doing it on purpose.

Desired outcome: Hope they go out of business

In The Company of Dogs #da1256 - animals matter nest

We ordered this item two months ago and it was supposedly in stock. We never received it and have sent several emails inquiring about the status of the order. It has constantly been on backorder and we requested a substitution. The company refused to substitute for a different item and would not let us cancel the order. The cost of the bed is $278.26. Today we went out and purchased a different bed due to lack of responsiveness from this company. Subsequently, I was on the phone with several departments in this company for more than two hours today - no one would cancel the order and they gave us some excuse that the order was processed but could provide no ship date. We want the item cancelled immediately. We went online and searched for customer complaints on this company and there are a multitude of similar complaints.

In The Company of Dogs customer service

5 panel gate arrived today with one panel broken. Called customer service. I offered to send photos. They told ME to return it (never offered a return label) and wait at least 4 weeks for a replacement! They should have sent a replacement immediately and wait for my return. Website says 100% satisfied and speedy returns! Ha! Also says BBB accredited but I checked and they aren't BBB accredited!

In The Company of Dogs vip club

What a joke.
I signed up for the club, and never rec'd my rebate despite following their instructions to the T.
Submitted required forms on 31 Oct via email. Followed up with them first week of Dec since I'd still not rec'd my rebate which was to have been sent no later than 3 weeks.
Was told my call would be escalated even though they had rec'd my email, and I'd be called back within 48 hours...SERIOUSLY?! Of course, did not receive a call back.
I've spent wayyyy too much time fighting with them over a few bucks.
I've also cancelled my membership, and, if further charges appear on my credit card, I will dispute them and will file a claim with the BBB.

In The Company of Dogs duplicate charge

I ordered two rugs and was charged $100.89. I received the rugs two weeks ago. Today I received an email saying my order was shipped today and my credit card was charged again. I immediately called customer service and talked to someone who said they could not help me and transferred me to someone else. The someone else said they could not help me and transferred me again to a supervisor named Amy. After looking at both orders, she determined it was my fault. I told her I only placed one order and had not been on the website since that order was placed. She insisted it was my fault, and when I received the second order, I could return it for credit but I would have to pay return shipping because it was "my fault." I told her I would never order from them again, and she said "OK."

In The Company of Dogs is a great example of how not to treat customers with a problem. How companies like this continue to operate is beyond belief. I admit to not looking at reviews, and because of that I am now waiting for a refund on a duplicate order the shipped and charge twice. We refused the second order and now after 2 weeks they are telling us it takes a few weeks for them to process our refund and charging us a restocking fee.

This is why people are so disgusted with companies that do not care about the consumer.

Please continue to let this company know that they are not a company you want to do business with.

I have no client number. Why am I being billed $14.95 monthly for "vipclub"? What am I supposed to be getting for this monthly fee? I see two charges for this amount: one on 05/31/2018 and another on 06/27/2018. I have never agreed to be a member of your "vip club". My name is glenn b holt, titleist ln., wilmington, nc 28412. In The Company of Dogs Late shipping / not being reimbursed for return shipping

Purchase 2 boxes of D14645 in early December 2017. Did not receive cookies in time for Christmas and had to purchase retail sore items. Merchandise arrived 12/30 - 5 days after Christmas. Spoke with representative and they said return items. Mail back items (tracking # [protected] 93) and was charged $12.89 shipping. Another call and you representative said I would be reimbursed for my shipping. When I received my credit card statement I was not reimbursed for shipping. Calling you guys go me "we don't reimburse for shipping. The items arrived late and could not be used as gifts. These items were not shipped to me until 12/22 which make it impossible to have for Christmas gifts. I would like my shipping costs refunded.

In The Company of Dogs check your pricing - customer service worst ever

Received a large GC as a gift for a new puppy. This can't be accepted online, so you have to call. This takes FOREVER. 1st time I ordered, half of what I ordered wasn't available after I placed order. So they refunded me with a new GC that was $9.11 LESS than what it should've been. I called and they acknowledged, and said they would send me a new GC. Never happened. I just called now to place my final order and use up this GC and be done with them. Call took over 18 min for 3 items. Rep was rude, condescending and constantly got the ordering # and my CC # incorrect. His total was different than mine, and he argued that I was wrong. ! I asked him to look it up... and lo and behold, 2 of my items were on sale and he was trying to charge me double. He then told me my CC declined and acted like I was a criminal. He had the #s wrong. I don't trust this company. I will never order from them again. BUYER BEWARE... they will charge you what they want if you don't know the price. AND after they take your money, they will tell you the item isn't available and offer you a refund less than you paid. Watch everything you do with this company.

In The Company of Dogs return of previously used item

They are giving me the runaround about returning a dog Cam that arrived to me used. Lies from the staff as well as supervisors, I wish I had read the reviews before buying! All I want is to return it and get my money back... why all the lies? The Cam has a code and someone who had the code could use it to see in my house! Dangerous and irresponsible of the company!

In The Company of Dogs Returning a dog bed

I ordered the fur fighter half circle shaped dog bed. None of my three dogs would go near it. I put it outdoors to sun and air, still no deal. I never took the tag off. They okayed the return but did not provide a return label. I hauled it up to UPS where I was told it would take $100 to return it. (LARGE bed, $249).

I came home and called customer service. They said they don't provide return labels that can deduct from the refund. I haggled with them and they eventually said they'd pay half of the cheapest method possible back. I told them I will never shop with them again. Potpourri has 18 catalogs and they haven't figured out better customer service?

I wanted a return label the same cost that it would take them to ship it, and deducted from my refund. Absolutely not was their reply.

In The Company of Dogs Major scam

Stay away from InTheCompanyOfDogs! My father ordered some stuff from this website and he had no idea he got some sort of VIP membership. He noticed that every month about $15 disappeared from his card and called me. He is 71 and don't understand such things, he even asked my daughter (his granddaughter) for help when he made his first order. So I contacted the company and they said that my father signed up for their membership and claimed that he agreed to pay! I told that he never did that but they refused to listen. These people are totally unprofessional, rude and incompetent! They refused to give his money back! These people robbed 71 year old person and they should be ashamed of themselves! Go shop somewhere else!

In The Company of Dogs Inept staff and bogus return promise

I ordered a dog bed based on the dimensions the ordering clerk swore were "inside" dimensions. The instant I opened the box when it arrived I knew that was wrong; the bed was too small and would never do. They were supposed to provide a prepaid return label, allow me to return the bed, and then I'd order the next size. That's NOT what happened. The label has never been sent but the larger bed. Now I have nearly $500 wrapped up in beds, only one useable. This company is full of incompetents who can't get a job anywhere else. If they can make a complete sentence, it is a lie. Nobody is willing to offer genuine help. Tomorrow, I'm reaching out to the folks who manufactured the bed and rely on In The Co. to sell it. They need to know about this and will hopefully pull their products. And to think I'd planned on buying more items after this got resolved. Ha! Never, ever again.

In The Company of Dogs damaged sweatshirt

On 11.27.13 purchased a long sleeve top and hoodie sweatshirt . The hoodie arrived damaged with a hole in the front. I contacted customer service on 12.5.13 and was asked if I wanted a refund or replacement., I want a replacement. I was told it was being sent. On 12.20.13 called again to find out where replacement was. I was told on back order til 1.4.14 called again around the 1.6.14 still no sweatshirt. Called again and was told a supervisor would get back to me. NO response. I called again on 1.18.14 told them I wanted a straight answer CSR said item was still on back order and I should expect to receive my item in 3 weeks. I told her I went on her website and it states item DA1352 is in stock! I also stated I would be filing a complaint with the BBB. She hung up
I then filed a complaint with the BBB. I am disgusted that this company lied about a $40.00 sweatshirt . consumers need to be aware of the horrible customer service

Worst experience ever. Refused to credit for some VIP membership that they claim was "checked" when I bought a $20 t-shirt. Now I've been unknowingly paying $12.97 per month on my VISA for the last 12 months (= $156) because of some marketing negative option checkbox on the checkout page.

SCAM OPERATION.

In The Company of Dogs Unhappy over the product and disappointed that a dog-focused company offered such doggy dross

Product is a three step staircase purportedly to be used by small dogs to get on high things -- like a bed. The design is such that a fairly typical small dog, my fully mobile rat terrier, cannot use it. It is not a matter of familiarity or training, it's dog physiology. The risers are high and the treads are shallow and sloped down toward the riser. It is not impossible for a fairly long legged small dog to use, but is much more difficult than is a regular staircase built to code. For a short breed the tread is too small in area for all four feet to rest there and the risers are too high for the dog to walk up (both right feet, then both left feet) as the back legs won't clear the top of the riser. The odd backward slope just makes thing more difficult. While I know it isn't true, the whole things looks as if were designed by a team that had never seen a small dog and just hypothesized over how such an animal might operate. Unhappy over the product and disappointed that a dog-focused company offered such doggy dross.

In The Company of Dogs Refund Rip Off

I ordered two dog beds from In The Company of Dogs, and they shipped the wrong merchandise. I returned the incorrect order using the enclosed return label asking for a refund. After three weeks, I had not received a refund; so, I contacted their customer service department which asked that I e-mail them my UPS charge receipt. I e-mailed this along with proof of delivery. They replied that refunds normally take 4-6 weeks, and when I stated that they owed me the return shipping charges, I was told by the rep I was speaking with that he would have to check with his supervisor. To make it short, I received a credit to my card today which was $35 less than I paid, and I am out the $73 it cost to return the incorrect merchandise - a $108 "learning experience". Caveat emptor!

In The Company of Dogs Privacy violation

I have just received a bogus "check" from "In the Company of Dogs" and am absolutely horrified by the gross invasion of privacy that this new scheme entails. If I "cash" the "check", -- which looks like a normal refund check in every way-- I will be automatically enrolled in a service which is not well described, from another company, AutoVantage Enhanced. This service would deduct $15.99 from the credit card on file at the store every month until they receive a written request to cancel! I have ordered from the store in the past, and have for my convenience used a credit card. The idea that they would deceive their customers with this bizarre ploy is extremely offensive to me. I only shop with and wish to shop with reputable companies who value my privacy. How dare they even consider passing along my information to a third party?

I've asked to be removed from "In the Company of Dogs'" mailing lists and their computer system, but I wanted to let other people now about this new invasive scam.

If you want to spend a significant amount of money and NOT receive what you've paid for, and then be verbally abused when you call, by all means use this company. The owner, John Fleischmann, apparently sits in his impregnable Ivory Tower and refuses to speak to his customers. After an hour on the phone with 3 poorly educated and rude individuals, the last of which hung up on me 5 times, I have decided to make it my mission to share my experiences with this company. As well, they feel superior enough to make executive decisions with regard to your order, which for me is untenable. I would rather do without than ever give this company one cent of my money. I hope you do the same.
