Columbia House / Edge Line Ventures deceptive selling practices

deceptive selling practices, unauthorized charges to consumer credit cards and non-cancellation of memberships following cancellation requests.
I was charged on my Visa Debit card $ 35.99. This was not a charged approved. I do not even know where they obtained my debit card number. I went to my bank and cancelled that debit card. I filed a police
report for fraudulent charges in order for my bank to return my money. I contacted this "TLG Great Fun" and the were argumentative in response to my request for a refund. They said it would be returned in the
next "billing cycle". This is how the charge appeared in my online checking account: 03/29/2008 POS WITHDRAWAL 03/28 TLGGREAT FUN 54 800 -$35.99 No phone number was provided. I obtained it from
my bank Richmond County Savings Bank ( New York Community Bank). The number is [protected]
TLG GREATFn told me that they obtained my information from Columbia House.com

Columbia House / Edge Line Ventures Unauthorized charges to my bank account

I joined Columbia house in November of 2007. Starting December of 2007 I began to get unauthorized charges to my bank account. I had used my bank debit card to make my original DVD purchases. However, Columbia House kept charging my account for movies I never received and for different dollar amounts. I tried many times to contact a Customer Service Rep. and never got anywhere. It took 5 phone calls to cancel my account. I faxed and sent certifed mail to Columbia House regarding the unauthorized charges, bank statements and a letter showing what they charged me and proving they overcharged me $118.65. My bank, US BANK, is currently disputing this with the company. I have also filled out a form with the FTC, Federal Trade Commission. I hope a class action suit is brought upon Columbia House and this all gets resolved. It's scary when you can't trust, a once reputable, company with your banking information. I had to close all my accounts and start from scratch. Someone please help!

HOW CHASE BANK AND COLUMBIA HOUSE STOLE CHRISTMAS

On August 8, 2008 I purchased some DVDs from Columbia House, the order came to $35.84. The order was shipped missing an item after many emails and phone calls to them I finally got my remaining item but they charged me an additional three times for that one item. After another round of calls and emails I finally chalked it up to a bad experience that I would learn a lesson from.

On October 11.2008 I logged into my checking account to find that I had two pending charges of $99.76 from Columbia House! I immediately called Chase Bank 800 where I spoke to a wonderful supervisor Pat, whom advised that as they were still pending she had been able to reverse them. As a caution she advised that they could submit again as long as they had my card number and provided me the number to the Chase Claims Department.

Immediately I began trying to contact Columbia House via their email process on their website - to this day they have NEVER responded to the dozens of emails that I have sent regarding this issue. Calls are answered by someone not qualified to handle the matter, so a supervisor will need to return your call and that NEVER happens either.

I tried to remove my card information from their site, which the site does not allow you to do! You also can not remove the check mark in the box allowing them to use that information for any future shipments and charges! In frustration I changed the billing information on the card to Big Bird, 123 Sesame Street, New York NY 10001

On October 14, 2008 they again debited my checking account for $99.76 which resulted in CHASE Bank charging me $75.00 and $32.00 for insufficient funds fees.

I contacted CHASE Bank filed a claim and closed that debit card (as they would not file the claim other wise). I provided them with screen shots showing no purchases, no shipments, no pending orders since the August fiasco and was advised by Angel that CHASE Bank would be crediting back the charge and any related insufficient funds fees.

Initially they did credit back the $99.76 and the $75.00 for insufficient funds. CHASE refused to credit the $32.00 as Donnell advised me because a previous request had been made (the $75.00) within a 12-month period.

On November 20, 2008 CHASE bank reversed themselves and took the $99.76 and the $75.00 from my checking account again. I contacted CHASE Claims Department on 11.21.2008 and was advised by Judy that she would re-open the claim and I would receive that information shortly. Several hours later there was still no information received. Again I contacted CHASE claims where upon Andre advised me that I would need to speak with a supervisor whom was currently on another call and would need to call me back.

To date there has been no communication from Judy or Andre’s supervisor, maybe CHASE has Columbia House train the employees in their Claims Department!

Thanks to Grinches at COLUMBIA HOUSE and CHASE BANK there will be no Christmas in our household this year. The theft of over $200.00 from my account by these two supposedly reputable companies has ended any possibility of a celebration of any kind in my household

Columbia House / Edge Line Ventures Unauthorized withdrawal!

I closed my account ([protected]) and paid 109.34 to Columbia house and picked four movies out did not even get my fifth one. On 11/5/07 they withdrew the amount. On 11/06/07 they withdrew 94.76 more dollars from my account. This cost me 30.00 dollars for my account going under because your company took iton there selfs to take money out with out my authorizing it. I still have not got the 94 dollars sent back to my account and you need to get people you can understand to talk on your phones. I still want reimburse for the 30.00 dollars plus the 94.76 you cost me. Contacting better business bureau and never doing anymore business with the company!

Just a few suggestions for you. Go to your bank and have them issue a "chargeback" for the $94 charge. During this process you can tell them that the only reason your account was over drawn was due to the unauthorized debit on your account they should reimburse you for any overdraft fees if they are a good bank.

Then by all means contact the BBB and the local Attorney Gen office in their area, this will just show your bank that you are trying even harder to come to an agreement with them. If you need a working number for a LIVE person at Columbia House I finally found one today (after asking for 2 months for one) it's [protected].

Good Luck and Happy Holidays.

Columbia House / Edge Line Ventures Haven't ever had a worst experience!

Columbia House DVD Club
www.columbiahouse.com

I signed up with Columbia House and haven't ever had a worse experience. When I first signed up the documentation that I filled out stated that I would have to purchase two more movies within 1 year but when I became a member this became 4 movies. After getting past that, I tried several times to get in touch with them but they were very hard to impossible to contact. The phone number they had on the enrollment documentation was only a recording and I could not talk with an operator.

Then I pre-ordered a movie which would have completed my requirement to purchase 4 movies. I had thought that the movie was likely in the mail and so I decided to cancel my account. I wasn't happy with the account to begin with. After canceling the account I went back and found that the movie I had pre-ordered was not set to release for 3 months. What kind of idiot company submits a movie for pre-order more than 3 months before it releases. BTW, the information regarding release date was not immediately accessible where the pre-release request was (i.e. they didn't provide the information before making the order).

Now, my account is canceled, which I am happy for but I had to make a final payment and I don't know if the selection that I pre-ordered will be sent to me or not. Based on their past record, I think that the chances are very likely that it will not.

I spoke to someone about my membership back 2017. Telling I were not satify with the quality of their DVD's. And I wanted to discontinue my membership with Columbia House DVD club. And I was told I had to pay off my membership and pay for balance of (3) movies. And I did. I thought that would be the last time I would from them. Now they have been senting out movies and I have been sending back. They stopping sending movies but now the billing continue to come. And unless they receive prompt payment, they will report my unsatisfactory account to a consumer reporting agency, which will keep this information in its files for up to seven years. How do I get these Hound dogs off my back.

Columbia House / Edge Line Ventures Never ordered but charged to our account!

Somehow the company is charging for DVD's that we never ordered and have put them thru to our checking account in the amount of $22.94. We have never authorized a charge to our CHECKING ACCOUNT but I guess previously when we did order they kept the number of our checking account in their computer and randomly charge to our account when they think of it.

WHAT A RIP OFF THIS IS CERTAINLY FRAUD AND WILL BE ADDRESSED TO THE BANK AS SUCH.

Columbia House / Edge Line Ventures The biggest scam there is!

The biggest scam there is! I never ordered any dvd or join there club. Why would I, when I'm a blockbuster guy. The claim they send me a dvd then I pay later. I never got the dvd and my wife accidentally paid the eight dollars because we pay all the bills on time. So when she ask about the club, I was shock. My first thought was a simple mistake made by them or someone stole my identity. I think that maybe columbia house is going around now stealing information in return cashing in on decent people. I recently start entering into the pch sweepstakes without ordering anything from them. That stike me as being odd because now pch are saying they are not an affiliate with columbia house and I was thinking "why wouldn't they be?" I'm going to see this thing to the end. I never heard of them and now I owe them... I would like to hear from others out here so we can get a bigger movement against scams. Please include my email address fredlstr AT yahoo.com with Columbia House Class Action Movement. Thank you for reading about my problems.

I also have a problem with these guys and mine started with receiving phone calls from a collection agency. I HAVE NEVER had an account with Columbia House, never recieved anything, not even a bill. The first time I called customer service I tried to explain to the rep what had happened. She would not tell me a thing except for me to contact the collection agency. She then hung up on me. I called right back and aked for a supervisor and I did get one who was very nice and helpful. Come to find out the address was incorrect and that is why I never recieved anything from them. I was told that the common way to sign up for Columbia House is on the internet (which I never did) and I think its crappy thing that ANYONE could get on the internet and sign someone up. Now, I just wait and see if this supervisor does what he tells me!

I am also having a problem with Columbia House. I had an account and have tried to cancel by letter, email and by phone for over 6 months. I continue receiving DVD's and bills for those DVD's even after I refuse the shipments. Now I have no DVD's and am being sent to a collection agency to pay for them. I have even declined my directors selection many times...I don't get the DVD, but I get the bill. I have told them in letters also that I will be keeping all future shipments without payment as I have not ordered them. But I am sure I will get a bill and sent to collections. Anyone know how we can enforce this law?

And to the person that called us all ###s: I have had my account with Columbia House for years also. I had canceled with them once before about 10 years ago and didn't have an issue. Now, neither I nor my mother can seem to get our accounts canceled. They don't seem to have an issue keeping customers, it appears to be an issue with letting them go and how they establish new ones. Have you ever tried to cancel your account? Give that a try and get back to us after you have been screwed and sent to collections.

I just want to say that I'm a member of Columbia House and I called them yesterday to ask them to send me a password, because I had forgotten mine. So, she said I have reset your password and will be emailing it to you, it may take 24 hours for you to get it, well, it's been 24 hours and still no password, all I want to do is to pay for my dvd online. So, could anyone tell me how do you go about getting them to send you a simple password, I mean after all I am a customer and I still have DVD'S to fulfill my committment, but I guess they don't care. But when it comes time and they add that late fee because I couldn't get a password to get onto their website to pay my bill then we have some trouble, because I will not pay the late fee. I mean how hard is it to send someone a password, or why can't they set it up so that you can change your password yourself. I mean this is crazy. That's why I hate fooling with Columbia House. And there prices on their DVDS are too high anyway, by the time they add tax and S&H, I mean what does a person have to do to get a password so they can logon to the account and pay their darn bill. For a little bit I wouldn't pay for the dvd and cancel my membership, there is no wonder there are so many complaints. cindygail43 6-6-2009

I have told columbia house months ago to cancel my membership. They still keep sending me selections I did not order. Which I have sent them all back. So now I get a letter from a collection agency saying that I owe them 36.50. I do not have anything that belongs to them. If they would have cancelled my membership like I told them to before this wouldn't have happened. I guess business is so bad that they have to charge innocent people just to make a buck!

I have found a great way to speak to a real person at almost any company...you just push the one that says " if you want make an order, push this # ", works everytime, then you just say you pushed the wrong # & could they please connect you to the right #. They will usually comply.
I too have had a heap of trouble with Col.House. I am now just declining ALL 'directors selections'.After a while, they will remove you themselves.

I was tricked into signing up with this club with the promise of a $50 gift card to a local restaurant of my choice. I chose Red Lobster. My account was charged th $27 something, twice! I did receive the DVD's, though. Their customer service is of no service at all. Someone, (after months of phone, e-mail, and written, sent by mail complaints ) I received an email that said they have lots of vendors selling their product and that there was no way to find out which vendor lied to me about a gift card. If these vendors are making money to bring in more subscribers, wouldn't they have to prove who they got to sign up and provide my member number? They are all in cahoots to rip of consumers and think we are all so stupid. I have complained to the BBB and will forever spread the word that Columbia is a rip-off. Stay away from them and hold on to your money!

Columbia house is sending me DVD's I am NOT ordering faster than I can keep up with them. For that reason, my account is always in arrears for products I did not get a chance to decline. Any company that is willing to take your money, set up a mandatory automatic mailing of their products without ability to cancel membership from the site that you can update any other information, is not ethical. I want out too, and i will never again do business with this company and will be warry next time i sign up for something like this and will make sure i can cancel membership once fullfilments are achieved (which mine are with Columbiahouse dvd). But at the same time, you signed up and agreed for the service so it is not a scam, they do exactly what they say.. its just really unfortunate that they want to make it very difficult for their customers to get out if they want, OR AT LEAST OPT OUT FOR THE ###ING STUPID DIRECTORS SELECTION!

I too was a victim of their scam but I was able to cancel my membership. My recommendation is to call the 1-800 # and ask to cancel your account. If you are unable to get a hold of anyone than return the next DVD with a letter requesting the following:

1. To cancel the account
2. Send a final invoice to you upon cancellation
3. Remove your name from all of their marketing material

Make sure you pay the extra money to track the package.

Columbia House / Edge Line Ventures This company is a SCAM!

In 2004, a minor in my home ordered these in my name. Upon receipt I called and informed them of this. They sent me a return address label for the "Intro Package" and the 2 Director Selections that had been shipped in the meantime. I returned all the DVD's and never heard another word. Until now.

This past week I got a letter from a collection agency. Columbia House turned me in for not having "filled my obligation." First off, it wasn't mine to fill, it was fraud. Secondly, I returned the DVD's to them AT THEIR EXPENSE. Not to mention, it's been 3yrs! This is INSANE!

Then, try to call a customer service number and speak to a HUMAN. They don't exist. It's all recordings. Even their corporate line is. This company is a SCAM!

I was a member of Columbia House DVD Club for 3 years. According to Columbia House, I was a member in good standing. At the beginning of my membership, I was exempt from shipping charges, but the rules changed, and I had to pay for shipping. At the same time, a strange thing happened: I stopped receiving the DVD's I had ordered, but was charged for. I would contact Columbia House about not receiving the order, and they would send me a new order (which I would receive), and charge me for both orders until they got an affidavit from me stating that I had never received the first order.

This happened about 4 times, until I started using the expedited shipping for an extra $4.99 per order. As I write this, it sounds like a scam in order to force more money out of me to get an order. I eventually joined the Columbia House DVD on TV Club and cancelled my other membership. I have had no problems with new club, but I am on pins and needles every time I place an order. I always use expedited shipping.

The post office put a watch on my mail to make sure that no one was going through my mail and stealing my DVD's. My mail carrier walks all my packages to my door now, and makes sure I get everything. I don't know if someone was stealing all my DVD's, but they must have been disappointed in the selection since my tastes are not the more modern types of movies. I suspect that my DVD's were never packed or shipped, and my order forms are in a shredder somewhere. I do every transaction with them through the internet. How is it that 4 original orders never made it to my door, after I had to pay for the shipping?

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I resolved any issues that I had with Columbia DVD Club over a year ago. At that time I requested and was informed that my account with the club was cancelled. Now one year later I receive a bill for $99.00 stating that I did not fulfill my obligations with the club to order and pay for selections. This is appaling because I never received anything from Columbia House DVD Club in terms of any communication whatsoever during this year nor did I receive any notification that I was a member---no selection cards---no bills---no anything and all of a sudden I received a bill for $99.00. I want this bill to be cancelled! I want my account to be cancelled Member number 50496491619D09976 298111. And lastly I want confirmation that you have cancelled my account.

Thank You,

Phyllis Diesel

My Email to Columbia House:

Once again my credit card was charged for a purchase that I did not make. The last time this happened I was charged for Directors Selections that I did not order. I have gone in every month and canceled my Directors Selections so I will not get charged again. I have a conformation email stating that I canceled the Directors Selection on 11/2/2006. So what have I been charged for this time?

I can't tell because it does not say in my account. There is no customer service number to call and it takes days for a representative to contact me by email. Why do you routinely charge my account for services and merchandise that I do not authorize? Who is going to pay my bounced check fee for this charge since you negatived my bank account? The business practices at Columbia House are criminal at best and I am reporting this matter to The Better Business Bureau.

Columbia House sends me this package, I never signed up for columbia house's dvd club. In the package is a ### movie that you couldn't pay me to watch. I call the number on the invoice to inquire about this service I never signed up for and all I get is the run-around by an automated system. A couple of months go by and I get a bill for 58 dollars and 44 cents. I'm fit to be tied at this point so I search the internet and find this site with people who have had similar experiences. I call the columbia house legal department and give them my account number and they transfer me back to the automated line without even asking me a question about my complaint. SO I call back and get this slimy sounding guy named "Trent". I tell him I never signed up for the service and I want to know how I got the package. He says I didn't have to sign up. And since I didn't pay the money to send the package back I am now in the club. He has this real smart-assy attitude about him the whole time he's telling me this. He is talking to me like I am some kind of ###. You can tell Trent gets these calls often and he enjoys letting people know there is know recourse. This is nothing short of thievery. These as**lowns will not see a single red cent of my money

On Oct/13th I bought four DVD at a Columbia House online offer charged on my credit card, an amount of US$13.44. For my surprise, on Nov/14th they charged on my Credit Card US$28.11. On Nov/15th, after lot of calls I asked to cancel the charge because I didn't accept to join their DVD CLUB that they promptly agreed; so, on Dec/4th I got a refund for this amount. In the meantime I received one DVD by mail that I have never asked for and I returned it. On Nov/30th Columbia House charged me again an amount of US38.95. I called my Credit Card Service to avoid any charges from Columbia House because it could be a fraud. Then on Dec/19th I received a refund for it.

On Dec they send me again one parcel with DVDs by themselves, I returned it unopened again. On Feb/5th I received a letter from Columbia House charging me an existing balance of US$ 118.88 for a service that I have never received or asked for; inside they included a threatening advice: “ UNLESS YOU SEND US YOUR PAYMENT PROMPTLY OR CONTACT US TO REACTIVATE YOUR MEMBERSHIP, WE WILL REPORT YOUR ACCOUNT TO A CONSUMER REPORTING AGENCY, WHICH WILL RETAIN THIS INFORMATION IN ITS FILE FOR UP TO SEVEN YEARS ”. If they keep their promise my financial score will certainly be affected soon. I think this is a fraudulent and unfair Internet business practice.

I would like that a Government Agency should close this company because of so many claims reported in almost all consumer affairs sites, avoiding more consumers would be damaged each day.

I was out of country on vacation for little over 3 months, visiting my Aunt's & cousins in Germany. I went with my mom she goes a trip every other year. So it was my chance not working drawing unemployment. So I left for my Home Land. When I come back this company is threating me to turn there ### ### to the Collection agency. I paid for my DVD with it's late charge of $7.96.
Serial # of the money order from U.S. POSTAL SERVICE, on 2008/10/04. Clerk #0005, Post Office 60481. That's my reciept. There wanting to pay for the last 5 DVD's right now which I'm not. I've got 2 years plus I got Free DVD VOUCHER'S, buy one get one FREE. So many people have told me about this COMPANY FOR RIPPING THE PUBLIC OFF. There not going to do this to me. I buy my share, but I'm not paying$124.70 at once they can turn me into their COLLECTION AGENCY!If they can't act like a company is suppose to, THEN SCREW THEM. I DON'T LIKE BEING THREATED BY ANY JEWISH COMPANY. Make you mind up, Richard Staples...

For my surprise I received a DVD by a value of 11,34$, my intention was to pay it, but as I had not requested east product, I said myself I am going to wait for a little so that they do not feel attempted to return to send other products, in less than 4 months the sum has raised 79,10$ this is without to have received nothing else. This is aberrant, to be robbed by a company with as much powerful money and when I am poor.

I have tried to reach Columbia House Video Club several different ways, but cannot give an account number and therefore cannot contact anyone.

I have been charged for something, but don't know what it is.

I have put the charge in dispute with my credit card company, and now must figure out how to contact these people without my account number.

I ordered one free video, which cost $5.00 shipping and handling, and now have larger charges on my credit card.

Thank you,

Columbia House / Edge Line Ventures Should be investigated for criminal fraud

This is in regard to my experience with Columbia House DVD club. According to its membership rules, you must purchase 4 DVD's in order to retain its promotional price on 6 DVD's purchased at the onset of membership. When you finally select to purchase the 4th DVD to meet your membership obligation, mysterious shipping delays and backlogs begin to emerge and contacts with Columbia House become next to impossible. It is my considered assessment that Columbia House DVD club is very little more than a scam operation and should be investigated for criminal fraud.

I am an EX Member! Having always paid my bills the SAME day I received a shipment I should have never received merchandise I did not order! But I did. I returned it, since it was not ordered, and just let them pay postage.

I will NOT pay for anyone else's mistake! Before long I was getting bills for the postage, so I wrote them, seven times to no avail. I also called four times and was assured that all was fine and not to worry. Today I am reading my second "Collection Letter " and was told that they will report me for unsatisfactory dealings with me. This will go into my Credit Report and leave a mark on my Credit!

I will NEVER do business with them again and am searching for further places to report their shabby business practices. I tried calling but talking to a machine does nothing and so I am going further.

They advertise "Fun Cash" or building up points after so many purchases. I have thirty dollars worth. I'm having a hard time
cashing them in. Its set where you can't mail in a request for a free DVD and its hard finding it on the web.

Second complaint; after two years we should'nt be required to fill
out an order form stating we do not want the directors selection or they will send it to us. I believe my tenure is up.

What a scam...these people will automatically send you and charge you $30 for movies UNLESS you intentionally tell them you don't want them. They also tell me that I can't cancel my account unless I fulfill my contract by purchasing 3 DVDs in the next year. This website is sketchy. There is no contact phone number on the website, only an email address. And when I would email them, they would send me back emails that were completely IRRELEVANT to the questions I had asked. I finally got a hold of a customer service rep on the phone and, as a lot of people here have said, ran around in circles trying to talk to someone that would help me. I think their strategy is to make things as complicated as possible and hope that you'll just give up and pay the price. I asked the rep I was talking to to connect me with a superviser and she just said, "Sorry they're busy, I will take down your information and call you back later." So I said, "I actually don't believe you will call me back, I would prefer to be on hold" and it literally took 20 seconds for a supervisor to get on the phone. I talked to the supervisor in circles for about 20 minutes before he agreed to let me mail the movies back and get a full refend. DO NOT JOIN THIS WEBSITE, IT IS A SCAM!

I was charged on my DEBIT CARD for movies WHEN I SELECTED BILL ME. Then when I called my bank was told they just needed to credit my acct and bill me. Well, I called columbia house and was told that was not possible. I, then talked to a manager and was told that they could not do that. So, now I am withdrawn on my account. After 3 hours of trying ot reach an actual person, I get no answer.

I'm very upset with Colunbia House and I will never buy anything else from this DVD company ever again and I advise everybody that reads this Complaint to do the same. Here is the reason why. In good faith I became a member of Columbia House DVD club fulfilled the membership. After, I did not want any more DVD's Columbia House would continue to send movies to me and I would send the movies back at my expense becasue, I did not want the movies this was 2005 and now 2010 I'm being harrassed by collectors saying I owe Columbia House for movies I paid to send back to them 5 years ago. I never got any notices that the movies were never returned. I got delivery confirmation so I know the movies were return back to Columbia House. I will pay for something I don't owe this is crazy after 5 years.

When logging on to the account, there is no contact link. I need to discuss this account with a human being and when calling their [protected] number I can't get through to anyone except recording. It's been 2 weeks since I mailed a payment and they have not (according to their computer generated system) yet received it and they have suspended my account. I can't pull up an order-history on the website even to see what has been order, returned, etc.

They induce you with low prices but then what? They send you DVDs you've declined, they charge you card for shipping when their promotion says they won't. You try to reach them by e-mail and they apologize but don't solve any of your problems. You might believe they can't read. You ask for a manager to respond, and don't get one. The phone number is voice mail jail. You don't get to talk to a live person unless you know that placing an order gets you to one. You finally get to a supervisor and tell them you want an immediate refund for a product they sent which you did not order (and has not come yet). They say you'll get your money when we get the DVD back and that could be 6-8 weeks! You explain that you are not a bank and not in the business of lending money to Columbia House and you had previously been promised no "Directors Selections" would need to be declined. Were they going to live up to their word? Evidently not. I gave the supervisor an ultimatum: either give me credit on my charge card now and you can keep me as a customer, or I can cancel my membership call my credit card company and dispute the charge so your company will not get the money either way. She told me I choose option two. This speaks volumes about the company. Good companies like Amazon will go out of their way to keep you happy and keep you as a customer. This is an example of the worst of the worst.

I am so DONE with these people! Time and time again they continue sending me unsolicited dvd's and I have fulfilled my membership limit with them. I have BEGGED them time and time again to cancel my membership and yet they keep on sending me these DAMN movies and billing me for them. These people already ruined my credit score once. I WILL NOT ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN! I guess my next step is Consumer Affairs or the BBB.
Maybe both. Enough is enough!

OMG -- they are still pulling the same stuff !

I immediately called Chase Bank’s toll free number where I spoke to a wonderful supervisor Pat, whom advised that as they were still pending she had been able to reverse them.

On November 20, 2008 CHASE bank reversed themselves and took the $99.76 and the $75.00 from my checking account.

Nothing but lies and wrong dvd's and wrong charges from the get go! I have never had so much trouble with a supposedly legit company in my intire life! They send wrong dvd's, then charge me for them (take the money out of my bank account). Then somehow, I got in touch with them, and told them, then they (three tries later) finally send the right one, but charge me twice for it. They said they sent one I NEVER received, and have the audacity to charge me for it. My 5 year old grandson could run this business much better than they are. Whomever is running it obviously has mental health problems, and organizational problems and math problems, etc. Now, as the rest of you have mentioned, it is totally impossible to get in touch with them. Contact is virtually impossible! Which means death for any company. They don't seem to care, either. I refuse to pay for any more that I do not get or are the wrong ones sent to me. I finally had to change my credit card...the bank issued me another with different numbers so now they can't charge it any more...

BEWARE of COLUMBIA HOUSE!
Columbia House does business in a very deceitful manner. I had an account with them for over 3 years and met my commitment to them. When they charged me for a movie that I attempted to purchase with fun cash, I called to get it straight. I had a copy of my confirmation page that the movie was purchased with fun points, and they still claimed that the movie did not qualify which is why they charged my account. It was very difficult to get them on the phone, and once I did reach someone, she was very rude and nasty. The supervisor she put on the phone was equally unpleasant. I let the charge go, and told them to close my account.

Then I was suckered back in…

After several attempts via e-mail and postal mail to get me to “re-instate” my account I decided to do so, accepting the 6 movies at a reduced price and one at regular club price as a welcome back gift. To my dismay, this is in their records as a new account in which I now have a new commitment. They have since charged my account for a movie I did not order, which was sent to me as a director’s selection. When I called them and explained to them the movie was refused and returned unopened, because they have not gotten it back they will not refund my account. They also claim that because this is a “new” account it is stated in the terms of the account that they will charge my card for anything they ship automatically. I asked them to remove my card and they will not; they claim they have to have it on record. I asked them to cancel my account, and I am told that I have to complete my commitment or they will charge my card for the remaining movies. I feel as though I have been bullied and bamboozled into a commitment. This is an example of unscrupulous and unethical business practices.

I just spent 3 hours on the phone with Columbia house about duplicate charges for one movie that I agreed to buy on a promotion, not only was my account double debited but was over charged for the movies by $22. Of course when I called them to complain I was told that they don't show the charges as approved, but that my bank declined the charges, I asked them to do a conference call to my bank so that they could verify the charges, the manager told me he didnt have the ability to make phone calls, which I know is wrong, I have worked as a manager in call centers and if anyone has the ability to make outbound calls it is a manager. So I called my bank, they were more than happy to call Columbia House to verify the charges, the manager refused to listen, assured me that my order was cancelled and told me not to call back again and that there was nothing that they could do about the fact that their two pending charges in my bank acct were causing checks to bounce and was not willing to try to make it up to me. Even after threatening them that I would be complying to their executive offices, the bbb and my local state about their shady practices, I was just told to stop waisting their time. Checking on the BBB, they are NOT registered with the BBB and are also not in good standing due to amount of complaints that the BBB receives about them. Wish I would have know before I did business with them.

I am a disabled American (dislexic), very limited funds... I joined Columbia House almost 2 months ago, not realizing that once you give them your credit card number they send movies you don't even order. At the first of Sept, 07 I became homeless and have been living wherever I can. This past weekend I had access to a computer to find out Columbia House had taken out over 50 dollars from my account without my permission and sent the movies to an address I no longer have. I have called 2 days in a row to get my money back to no avail. Does anyone have a suggestion on what to do?
