Capital One dispute resolved years ago

While living in Mexico in 2001 I had a Capital One credit card. I did not use it for over a year. I received in the mail a membership fee charge for $50.that was due the week before I received the notice. I tried to telephone Capital One but the only number on the card was an 800 nimber that was unusable outside the country. there was no other number. Plus it would cost me $3.00 a minute to call the US to try to find a number for them. I sent a letter and the cut up card cancelling my capital one account. I kept receiving letters of nonpayment with fees attached. I called capial one many times during this dispute, at $3.00 per minute. I finally sent them the original membership fee, though the account was cancelled, and they would call it even. Capital One said the problem was resolved. When I returned to the states in November 2002, my credit rating was bad because Capital One now had a $295.00 fee on my credit report based on that $50.00 membership fee. I had to put my first home mortgage in my wife's name due to this, only blemish at the time on my credit report. I called capital one. they apoligized profusely and said it was a gross misunderstanding and guaranteed me that they would take this, their error, off my credit report. This was in 2002 or early 2003. I considered the matter closed until I received my credit report from Experian with this $295 charge from a collection agency all stemming from a $50.00 membership fee for a card I cancelled and had not used for a year prior. This has been a nightmare. Can you help me resolve this matter? Sincere thanks, Steve

Capital One has a credit bureau disputes division, it sounds like human error occurred at C1 and your original cancellation was not completed. I advise everyone who closes an account to double check twice because paperwork can take two months and interest charges take 60 days to completely cycle. You can also dispute the report directly with the credit bureaus (the will send forms to be completed), the debt is so old it should not be there anyway. It also should have a small effect on your score so you may have other issues so I would recommend brushing up on everything that is on your credit reports. It is too bad you did not call the free international number for Cap one when you were back in Mexico but I guess you did not have access to Google in the town you were at.

btw, customer service reps are people. Yelling or getting angry gets them flustered and causes them to make mistakes. When you call Cap one to request a credit bureau dispute the first agent you speak to may not have experienced that request as they are rare. If they have trouble assisting you just politely ask to be transfered to a supervisor. And be patient, the people who handle rare problems usually have long hold times because they have to take more detailed notes etc so if you are next in line you may have a lengthy hold time.
Hopefully this helps.

Capital One - unreasonable account restrictions

In August, 2008 I applied for a credit card with Capital One. I received correspondence from them requesting me to mail them a copy of my Social Security Card and Drivers license, since they could not verify my information. Since I still had a limited credit history, I accepted the request as reasonable and mailed the documents. About a week later, I...

Capital One unauthorized charges

I have been a Capital One credit card holder for 4+ years. I am responsible for what I have charged and pay on-time if a payment is necessary. However, that being said, Capital One has been charging me a payment protection fee for over 3 years. Totaling the monthly fee for over all these years it is over 800, they just refunded me 100 and are 'investigating' the issue. I have never signed up for this service and find it highly suspect that you can just charge someone a fee and say that it was on my statement every month, why am I disputing it now. They are stealing from people and laugh about it on the phone. Anyone out there that this has happened to? Any Esq. in the bunch that see any wrong doing. I am angry. I as a taxpayer am bailing out banks that probably practice this same thing!

I had a CapitalOne credit card in London - after two years of exorbitant interest charges and spiraling costs, I finally managed to pay off the balance and sent them the final cheque with a letter instructing them to immediately cancel my account. Two weeks later I moved house, and a year later moved again.

Six months after THAT, I received a year's worth of mail from my ex-flatmate, stating that he was returning to Australia and would no longer deal with my debts... I thought, "what?" - got my mail, realized CreditOne were chasing me for ~ GBP#290. I rang them to query, and they explained that - despite me "closing" the account - they had continued to honor the monthly payments I had authorized another company to take from that card. Despite having also canceled that authority, which was a whole other problem. SO I had 18 months of monthly charges plus 18 months of late payment fees and overlimit fees, as well as 30% interest charges.

I explained again that I had closed the account and refused to pay the additional charges - they asked me for my current address, "just so they could keep in touch", and again I refused, as I was no longer a current customer of theirs and had no responsibility to provide them with my details. It took 6 weeks of weekly phone calls for them to accept that I would not be paying the charges they had issued since I had officially canceled the account (luckily I had a dated copy of that letter).

Even in desperation I would never ever apply for a card or any other credit with them again.

In December I called a TV advertisement to plan a purchase of a U-2 Mop. The telephone operator immediately wanted my personal information as well as credit card number. (I will never be that stupid again to give out my number first). After answering her questions about the products I was interested in, ( as well as many more additional items that she wanted to add) I asked the total charges and was overwhelmed by the total as well as exorbitant handling and shipping charges. Also she said it would take 4 to 6 weeks. I told her I was no longer interested to please cancel that order. I did not want the mop. She said 'okay'.

One month later I received the mop anyway. I immediately called the company and was told I would have to e-mail someone. I did but apparently the e-mail address was a bogus one because the e-mail was never opened by anyone at the other end. I was told there was no one I could speak to on the phone.

I then opened my credit card statement and the charge had been put on the same day I talked with the telephone operator. She entered the charge anyway without my authorization!.

I called Capital One to see what could be done. The young man I spoke with immediately began lecturing me about how foolish I was to even deal with a TV Advertisement. He explained that was the reason brick and mortar stores do not sell these products so they will not be victims to people like these. He explained the stupidity of believing that your 'taped converstations' would help because of course they are lost or possibly never made or accidentally erased.

I asked if these charges could be stopped since they were to be in 3 payments. He said no there was nothing I could do except possibly ship it back for another charge. I asked to speak with someone else at Capitol One and he said "No, it wouldn't do any good!" I told him I would call back myself to speak with someone else and he sarcastically said "Okay, we'll be waiting for you!"

I called back and spoke with a woman who said she would add to my report that the young man had taken that "I specifically told the U-2 Mop operator to cancel the order before it was ever authorized". However, at that time I should not return it for another charge or do anything until I heard from Capital One. She told me I would receive a letter within 25 days on what to do.

I have heard nothing from Capital One. I have received another statement from them with another charge! They did not block the charge or send me a letter or follow up in any way.. I AM AT A LOSS AS TO WHAT TO DO! I'm assuming there is no way to fight this because I researched on the internet and found this TV Company(that sells products like these) owns several TV Channels..How unfortunate for the American Public.

I also have now seen this mop advertised in other mail-order catalogs for a fraction of the handling and shipping charges. To make matters worse:

STUPID ME; I gave in yesterday and opened the mop since it undoubtedly is mine with no recourse. OF COURSE IT DOES NOT WORK AND DO THE THINGS ADVERTISED!

Now I pray that powerful comanies like Capital One and these companies who own TV Channels will somehow be brought low by our public being informed and enlightened!

I had a vendor charge my account and forged my name to credit card receipts. I disputed the charge and Capital One took it off. When the vendor complained and said I agreed to a charge of over $1000, (I had already paid my balance with them of almost $1500) Capital One put it back on my account saying it was MY FAULT I didn't get this conversation in writing! Further, if I wanted to pursue remedy, I would need to do it outside of Capital One! I am in the Midwest and the vendor in California! I guess if you are looking to get away with fraud and you have a credit card machine...keep you eyes open for a Capital One card...you can get away with a Class A Felony!

I joined the Marine Corps in January of 2009. Prior to going I called Capital One to see if they had a program for service members to put a hold on payments while they do not have access to banking. I was told that they did and my account would be put into it. I asked to clarify if this meant I would owe the same amount of money when I got out of Boot Camp that I currently owed. They said that I was correct in my understanding. I got out of Boot Camp to a bill hundreds of dollars higher. I called and asked them to clear up the problem. After multiple calls and hours dealing with their mistake on my ten days of leave before going to my Combat Training, where I would again be without banking, I finally got them to agree to credit my account the amount that charged in Boot Camp, because I offered to pay the full amount owed the day I left for Boot Camp. When I got out of Marine Combat Training and into my job school, they had only credited $100.00 of the unauthorized charges and charged even more on me not paying the uncredited amount. I called them almost daily and talked for hours trying to fix this, not to mention the 2am-4am calls from their collections department that lead to me explaining and reexplaining my situation. Capital One lies to our service members and cheats them out of money when they are training to defend our country. They are irresponsible and will not own up to their mistake. Eventually, I will be getting out of the Marine Corps and will need my credit score to reflect my financial stability so that I can get a lower interest rate on the home I am planning on purchasing. Capital One is slowing this goal and I hope that everyone that joins the internet "support the troops" groups or has a sticker on their car actually DOES support the troops and not the financial institution that takes advantage of them and their sacrifices.

I used to really like this credit card but now I find they make it impossible to get on their website to pay your account and then you pay the same day and they put the payment in a day later and charge you $35.00 past due fee when you actually pay on time. I also pay very well. I pay my balance in full without incurring finance fees. Just two months ago I purchased extra miles from Volkswagon for my son and he is paying it to me in payments so that balance we are paying off. Once my account is paid in full, I will cancel their credit card. I think they should be investigated for their dirty methods that they do to their customers. They are con artists and scanners. I will be cancelling it as soon as possible

Beware of Capital one merchant account
Simply put, the employees who are assigned to facilitate the merchant account are double agents in disguise. Once your account is set up, they would literally share your account information with companies you never held of without your permission. Consequently, these companies will continue to access and withdraw money from your account every month. My friend owns a Boutique in Dallas Texas and she had been a victim of the fraudulent act of Capital one. At a glance you may be tempted to conclude that the following names are reputable companies, however, they have conspired with Capital one to defraud my friend. They include AMERICAN EXPRESS COLLECTION, DISCOVER NETWORK SETTLEMENT AND CAPITAL ONE MRCH MERCH, etc. Please pay close attention to the names and do not imply that the names are affiliated with credit card companies, i.e. American express or discover card, etc. When confronted, Capital one never apologize, instead, they asked the following questions, 1) why did it takes so long for my friend to bring it to their attention, and 2) why did my friend failed to catch it the first time? Nevertheless, the money is yet to be posted into my friend’s account.

Robert, do you know what your due date was? If the payment was made after your due date then your account would have automatically assessed fees. You see Finance charges are applied to your account daily and there are maintenance fees, so as long as there is a balance of the account then the account will assess Finance Charges. Hope this helps!

Capital one complaints - worst customer service

I am so pissed! I have never received such bad service my whole life!
This is a series of events that just keep getting worse. I lost my capital one card and asked for a replacement. It took several calls to have my card replaced because the person I spoke with kept confusing my card number with that of the other cardholders in the company. When I finally got the new card and I tried paying the balance using capital one's automated system, their computer says, "a new number has been assigned for this account." it then transferred me to a customer service rep (Or should I say anti-customer service rep) who was very rude. I told her that I was frustrated and that I wanted to be transferred to a supervisor. Several minutes later, a supervisor got on the line and asked what she could do for me. I told her that I was frustrated since this is the 5th time that has happened in 2 months. I told her that they need to improve their customer service and be more efficient. She started getting defensive and said that there is nothing wrong with their customer service in india. I said that if she is already getting defensive about my complaint and she is a supervisor, then I said that that is unfortunate because the supervisors are supposed to lead and be a good example. She got really sarcastic and said, "we have the best customer service in india!" I told her I disagreed, based on her attitude and several others before her. She huffed and puffed and snapped, "you can call back later when you are feeling happy!" then she hung up. What a biyatch! I can not believe this woman! I can not believe why capital one would outsource our jobs to countries like india, that don't even give americans decent customer service. We need jobs in the us. We need to get back this customer service jobs that are being given away overseas and not being appreciated. And — these people insult our intelligence and treat us like s — t! This is terrible and needs to stop.
Note: google the words: capital one complaints and you will find hundered, even thousands of complaints. It's time to do something about this situation. Either boycott capital one or stop outsourcing jobs to india and elsewhere.

I have had an auto loan with this company for the last 3.5 years and its awful what mistakes they have made that have cost me hundreds.. They continuously take out more than one payment due leading me to obviously overdraft in my bank account and then when i call..Guess what ? I cant even understand what the person on the other line is saying because there call center is not even in the U.S. They will refuse to return me my money and state to contact my bank to file a dispute so i can get my money back or that they will just post it to my principle..Please don't sign up with this company they will do what they can and promise you so much but once you sign up they don't care about you. I am going to refinance my car just so i can get rid of this bank!

I'm an indian working for capital one customer relations in Bangalore. Whenever u guys call ur call reaches us in India. You guys think we r stealing our jobs. But its ur american owners who are giving us jobs... I completely agree with u guys. CapOne steals money. It has increased interest rates for most of its customers. The reason given is economy. Thats ###. The late n overlimit fee charges are $39 which is ridiculous. Their payment protection program is designed to squeeze money out of u guys. I'm sick of this company. I'm hunting for a new job. If u guys have any questions email me at ajay_1r@yahoo.co.in
By the way if there's a guy called Alex answering ur call when u call CapOne its me!

I totally agree. I just recently got a Capital One card, and after reading all the complaints I quickly cancelled my card. When I called I couldn't even understand the person I was talking to, I asked if they could transfer me to someone who spoke clear English, that was a waste of time, because everybody I talked to I could not understand! So glad I decided to look up some information about Capitol One before I got stuck with this card for too long. Im gonna quickly pay off my balance, and hopefully never hear from this card company again!

Capital One over limit fees and lates fees

I have been a customer of Capital One for several years and every now and again I have had to call and let them know that they have charged my account a fee that really should not be charged.
This is happening more often, especially since the decline of the banking industry.
A late fee or over the limit fee will show up on my account every month and every month I have to call and reason with them that my account is not over the limit and that the payment they recieved showed up two weeks prior to the deadline.
Now, they are very reasonable about it, but it is becoming very frustrating when I have to call them every month and remind them that it is illegal for them to be charging fees under false pretenses.

I highly reccommend that people avoid credit cards all together, especially in such uncertain times. unfortunately, corporate America has betrayed us once again.

I requested a pay off amount from Capital One in December, then sent a check for the pay off amount. They quoted me a wrong pay off amount which was one month short, so we mailed in the last payment (again). Come January, we never received anymore statements. We assumed we paid off the loan, but we thought we should call 1 more time because they are sooo incompetent. Once again, they said we owned $117.53 left, and now we are 5 days late. I spoke with Miles, and he apologized and said they were late sending out statements and alot of people did not receive them. But don't worry, we do not report late payments to the credit burreau until you are 30 days late (even if it is their fault). So I said I am not hanging up until I pay off this loan. So I did a payoff over the phone with a check. He assured me I was now paid off. A week later I get another letter from Capital One now saying now I owe $122.68 this is dated a day before I made my $117.53 last payoff. Of course this does not balance. I then call Capital Ones Voice Jail and finally reach a representative and ask them what I show as a balance - it should be zero. He now states it is $34.31 which is the interest and late fee which has accrued. Will somebody PLEASE shoot me?! I now speak with Sonny, and try to explain what has happened. He now assures me that he will "put in a request" to have this zero'd out and I will owe nothing, and I should check back in about 15 - 20 days. You have to be kidding me !? I will bet my next 2 paychecks, that this will NOT be resolved, and this will escalated to more late fees and then collections, and there is nothing I can do. All I want to do is pay off my #$#@^%$ loan? What has happened to corporate America today? I am ashamed to be an American, and my ancesters came over from the Mayflower. If I had the opportunity to leave...I would. I'm sick of this Country. Corporations steal from you, and our Government doesn't lift a finger to help out the average hardworking guy. Yes I am pissed. To no end. There should be a law against incompetent stupidity and file a class action suit against this Capital One for being the biggest abuser.

I am going thru the same thing. I paid them in full 12/08 then get a bill 1/09 showing interest for the month of 12/08 I called and was told I needed to pay this bill even though they got my payment before the due date. I talked to a supervisor because now it's 2 days before this due date. Told just make the $12.66 and they would zero it out. Yesterday I got a bill with a membership fee of $59.00 a late fee of $15.00 and an insurance charge of $.66. When I called some lady who did not talk english very well told me I needed to pay late and insurance - ? the bill show my payment what am i paying insurance on and i haven't used this card in a year. OMG i am so over it. I am contacting the TV station here they would love to deal with this.

Capital One unfair treatment to staff

I’m writing on behalf of a family member who is absolutely destroyed now that capital one bank has taken over north fork bank. She is employed at a call center environment, with 60 plus calls waiting a day at minimum. With a service level of 30% when it’s supposed to be around 80% or higher. The minute one call ends, another one follows, without one second in between. Its non stop. They cancel morning breaks a majority of the time out of the week, it call volume is high. I feel It’s very essential that they receive all breaks due to the high call volume. The managers don’t allow u to have 2 seconds to your self. If there is a holiday or any given day where the calls are not as consistent there ready to send you home, using YOUR OWN voluntary unpaid time off. There’s a thing called compliance which you are required to reach a certain month to date average which is 93% or higher, and is nearly impossible due to reps having to limit each call to less than two minutes and two seconds, while assisting clients. Another issue is your penalized for using the restroom which is over there allotted time frame. You have to suffer if you are on the phone assisting a client and the phone call runs over into your lunch time which, for example is twelve noon and lets say the call ends at twelve ten, naturally your going to log off at twelve ten and return at twelve forty because your entitled to a half hour lunch break. Unfortunately at capital one bank because you went to lunch late you are considered late returning and it is deducted from your compliance. If we were to hang up on the customer it would be considered an auto fail, so they leave us no choice but to except it. The person that I’m speaking of is a very good employee, and has been working with the bank for three plus years. As we stated earlier she's been employeed with them ever since it has been North Fork Bank. She has never been written up or recieved any verbal warnings. She has kept a Great attendance and always meets the job requirements and expectations. I Come home every day and see this person mentally physically destroyed, this job is getting the best of her. It’s indescribable the amount of stress and depression this person has endured working with this company. This is not just a problem with this individual 80% of her co-workers have complained and I’ve decided to take further action in hopes to seeing some results. If neccesary, this person would be willing to give all her information to proceed further. thank you so much for your time, and i look forward to hearing from you.

Unfortunately banks are just unethical. That's just the way they are. What are everyday sheep supposed to do about it? The government is every bit as much unethical. What are we going to do? Have a revolution and replace Capitalism with Communism. Nope that doesn't work either. I'm sure your family member is a good person at heart however really all she is doing is supporting a twisted system by working in it in the first place. It is sad this is true but in fact she is responsible too. She is responsible for supporting a twisted organisation. Really what she should be doing is taking her time to find another more ethical institution to work for. All the best to you and your family member... I mean it... I'm sure she's nice but she's got to take responsibility for her own welfare as no one else will do it. She is being used and at the same time she is contributing to her and societies's misuse. Her spirit is crushed because the system isn't spiritual. Time for her to move on.

;)

Capital One unauthorized billing

My wife and I made a small purchase with our Capital One Visa card that accidentally took our account slightly over our credit limit. Rather than deny the sale because it would take us over our limit, Capital One granted the sale because they wanted the business, then charged us a penalty of $39.00 (more than the over limit amount) and to add insult to injury... they immediately sent a derogatory notice to the credit reporting agencies... and guess what?... right in the middle of the mortgage process for our new house. I can understand the idea of not going over your credit limit and I can even understand being penalized for such a terrible transgression...but to then deliberately trash our credit report while collecting their excessive fees is beyond moral and typical of why the average American hates big business. We DID get the mortgage and we ARE closing our account with Capital One. Capital One... Definitely NOT in our wallet.

If you want a credit card company that stands behind a fraudulent charge, don't apply for Capital One Visa. I just paid out $1500.00 for an item I purchased on the internet that was ordered, but not available. Although I called Capital One to dispute the charge and they told me I wouldn't be responsible, the company eventually did issue a credit, but not until the charge went into the next billing cycle. After talking to Capital One again, they told me I had to pay the $1500.00, even though it was credited, or they would sock me with finance charges. Bottom line...the internet company used my money for one month; and Capital One had it for another month. I closed my card and went with American Express.

Am a long time user of Capital One as well as many other Major cards, but never ever seen a CC company so disorganized.

I received a renewal card from capital One without asking for one (since I had another 2 months left for expiration of my existing card) with a sticker and a 1-800 # to call to activate it.

Upon calling, I was shunted three (3) times after being asked the same olkd question..first name, Last name and the usual other crap, only to land with a Guy called Sam (Am sure was from own Home coutry, INDIA !).
AND GUESS WHAT I WAS TOLD, SIR, ONE HAS TO WAIT FOR 15 DAYS TO ACTIVATE THE CARD..

My point is then why the hell they do not say so on the letter they attach to the renewal card..

I sent an e mail to customer swervice regarding the same, and guess what i got back again:

"Dear Trevor, due to the status of your account, we cannot e- mail details"

Capital One should cut that BS, which I am sure is that they do not want this on records..

what a bunch of crappy credit card companies. the onlycompany I never had an issue of any sort amongst 8-9 of my CC issuers, has been AMEX ! BOA was Ok untill last 3 years, when I noticed their Foxy tricks on change of terms, which in any case did not affect me too much as I always paid off all my balances on all cards.

Capital One capital one worst customer service

Capital one must be a genius at hiring the rudest, most condescending customer service reps in the world. Especially the ones that they outsource from india. They are arrogant and don't give a # about your problems with their credit card.

Capital one must be the greediest, # credit company around!
They obviously don't care because they have plenty of customers. Beware, capital one, your days are over! Before you know it, you will be bankrupt just like those a-holes at wall street!

Capital one — that is karma for you!

Capital One must be one of the top poor customer service companies in America. I tried getting transferred
to different departments, in hopes of finding someone more knowledgeable, kinder, friendlier, more professional,
but Capital One does not have anyone in their Customer Service department that will work with customers in need.
What a poor experience I have had with ALL of my dealings with them. I stay with them because they are one of the few
credit card companies out there for poorer credit.

Capital One is absolutely the worst company ever! The customer service, if you can call it that, is absolutely horrid. But if you think their credit card services are bad, it's nothing compared to the clowns they've got working in their auto finance department. They have absolutely no idea what they are doing; they lose vital customer documents, don't keep accurate records of correspondences with customers, and their internal communication is abysmal. And should you as a customer ever call to complain to a manager, they will decidedly refuse to put you on the phone with one; instead they will tell you that a manager will call you back and if you insist, they will hang up on you!
UNDOUBTEDLY THE WORST COMPANY EVER!

I totaly agree Capital One has they worst customer service love the scripts they read from and you are right they do not care. Three people I talked to admited to not even having there own companies card what does that tell you?

They raise the interest rate on there best customers, cut their credit limits all with no notification of doing this but they claim they have start reading the posts on all of these complaint sites almost everyone says they were not notified of the rate increase nor that they were slashing limits on top of this.

What happened to all of the bail out money we are paying for for this company? This is how they treat their good loyal customers, wow what a way to do business.

I know the economy is bad, do they think they are the only ones suffering wow how selfish is that we are all suffering the difference is some of us work for companies that put things in place so it would not affect the consumer. Quite a difference here, as far as I can tell they have done nothing but screw the consumer again what a way to do business.

I could not agree more. I have tried to pay my balance off on my Captial One card for two months. Each month I get a bill for more charges. When I called, I asked for the payoff balance and they tell me what it is. When I pay that amount they send a bill next month for interest charges that accrued since I paid it off...? They must pull this figure out of thin air? Once you are in with Capital One, you can't get out!

Capital One sue capital one for wasting time!

If your time is important to you, never use capital one credit card. They are the worst in the industry! For the 4th or 5th time in a few months, they have put a hold on my credit card for no reason. It is so embarrasing! I am waiting in line to pay the cashier at a supermarket and the card gets declined. I know that there is plenty of money on the card, so I called the customer service number. Guess what? I am transferred to india, where I could barely understand the customer rep's thick indian accent. I had to repeat my card number several times, then she argues that the number I gave is not a legitimate number. I said, "what?!" I am reading the card that you, guys issued me and I have been using this same card for years. Then, she puts me on hold for several minutes. Upon her return, I remind her that I am still holding up the line at the supermarket and people are starting to glare at me like it's my fault that my credit card is having problems. The service rep asks me to repeat the credit card number 2 more times, puts me on hold for 3 more minutes and then says that there is no hold on the card and for the cashier to try to run it again. For the 4th time, the store cashier runs the card and again, the computer screen says that the card is declined. I tell the service rep this, and she still insists that it is not on their end, but on the store's end. The cashier runs the card 2 more times. Same thing. I ask the service rep to be transferred to a supervisor and she says in "an-i-don't-give-a-crap" voice, "I can't transfer you until I exhaust all the troubleshooting possibilities. What are the last 3 digits on the back of your card?" I give her the number and she says, "that is an invalid code". Again, I shriek, '"what?! I am simply reading the back of my card and I have used this code and this card for years? What is going on?" she says (Amused), "hold the line..." again, I was on hold for several minutes, then she comes back on the line and said, "I don't see any problem on the card. Run the card again... Maybe this time it will work." I ask the cashier (Who at this time, is now glaring at me), to run the card one last time. Guess what? Card is still declined and the phone goes dead!

Capital One raised my Intrest rate on my credit card from 6.28 to 15.9 without giving me any kind of notice. I have never been late on a payment, I have always paid more than the minium amount. When I get this paid off I will never do bussines with these again.

I applied for a Capital One credit card and when I received it, the first thing I did was read the enclosed agreement. Unfortunately, the terms were so ridiculous, I cut up the card, called Capital One and informed them that I would not be activating the card nor using the card as I had just destroyed the card and I would appreciate closing the account permanently. Unfortunately for many people, they don't bother to read anything, they just accept the terms, activate the card and go about using it until they discover the costs and by then its too late for some as Capital One has them on their hook, line and sinker. Next time, read and heed before you bleed.

Just so you know, Capital One got a taxpayer bailout of the sum of 3.56 billion and according to the Huffington Post, their CEO was paid 9.75 million for his yearly salary. On top of it all, they are now using customer service reps from India because they don't want to pay any American any money to work in America. Isn't it great to know where your taxpayer money is going?

Been a customer for 5 yrs, always paid my bill on time and over required amount.. They have raised my interest from 8.53 to 17.90. I did call and ask why, they said they had sent a letter out (which I did not receive) and they could not lower the interest rate...I will be transferring my balance.. I can't believe they are treating their excellent customers like this in a time of finicial difficulties.

First, call the number on your statement that's listed after the charge itself. (Capital One will tell you to do this and call them back if you don't do it before calling them.)

Then speak with whoever answers the phone on the other end and tell them that you did not authorize that payment and you want your money back. Most times, they're going to tell you that it's with XXX company and you agreed on XXX date to sign up for whatever service. Ask again for your money back and again tell them that you do not want the service that you're being billed for.

If that fails (happens a lot), call Capital One and hit either 0 or 1 to speak directly with your "Account Manager". They're going to try to help you and get you to do stuff with your account... Just be persistant and keep asking to speak with the dispute department. I tell you to go to the customer service first, because otherwise you'll get stuck in a vast maze of automated phone menu's. Also, call between the hours of like 10 - 2pm your time so that you make it within the business hours of the department you want to speak with.

Once you finally get through to them, let them know that it's an unauthorized charge and youv'e already contacted the company to tell them to stop putting it on your card. Capital One takes it from there and fights the charge on your behalf. (That's about the only good thing I can say about them)

Good luck.

Capital One - unauthorized charge

Credit Inform placed charge against my Capital One credit card. Credit inform claims they received telephone authorization in July '08. I asked them to prove they had authorization through recorded conversation, ...ect at which time they terminated the call. I never autorized Credit Inform to charge my Capital One card for their service or have I ever spoken to them on the phone.

Capital One terrible service and company in hole

I found a couple of charges on my Capitalone credit card that were not written in the terms when I signed in online. First one is Payment protection service. It charged me 1 % of what I spent on the credit card. I found this charge on my third day and immediately called [protected] to cancel the service, so the damage was comparably small and was around $2, but if I was too late, the damage could be insane. The more you spend, the more you pay.

Second one is Creditinform service which charged me $5.99/ month. I found this on my second month, and called [protected] immediately. The phone operator surely agreed to cancel and refund. It's been three weeks since then, but I haven't received the refund yet. I called them again and they told me that it is in process and takes around one billing cycle (it means probably a month, but they can't promise...) to refund. I recommend asking the name of phone operator, confirmation# and when you can get the refund.

If you got a Capitalone credit card, first thing to do is to call [protected](Payment protection) and [protected] (Creditinform) to cancel these things in advance unless you want these services. Don't forget to ask his/her name and confirmation#, and watch your online account at least twice a week to make sure that there is no other unexpected charges. The customer service was quite annoying. Probably the phone operators are paid for taking at least 5 minutes to tell you all merits of these services, so be patient if you can.

I am going to cancel this card. I can not trust them after these two unexpected charges and am tired to watch the online statement everyday and calling the customer service every week, too much work just to make it right. One more thing, their due date of payment is very random. I asked them the rule of the due date, but they could not tell it. If you enrol to online statement, they don't give you any notice and the due date just sneaks up randomly. I asked them to e-mail me to notify the due date though, the answer was No. My other credit cards do this though I didn't ask. That's another reason that you have to check online statement pretty often.

We received an email (!) from Bank of America announcing that our mortgage had been transferred to Capital One. We contacted Capital One and asked for information on this and were promised a welcome packet. Which never arrived. Now we're getting phone calls telling us that our November payment has not been received and asking us to provide payment info on the phone. We don't even have an account number! And we're not going to hand over personal info to someone calling us. We asked for a number to call back. It does NOT match the contact number on the Capital One website, but we thought we could get them to send the welcome packet. They would not do so until we provided the personal information! And became extremely rude from the moment we reached them. We tried to call the number on the website, and they pushed us through all kinds of phone menus, finally stymied when we were asked to enter our credit card number (we don't HAVE a credit card with Capital One.) If this isn't emblematic of what's wrong with banking in America, I don't know what is.

I am receiving numerous calls every day from Capital One Auto Finance since June, 2010. They call my home beginning around 8:00 a.m. until late in the evening. They are looking for a person who I've never heard of and who does not live at my home. The person they are looking for has the same last name as I do, which is a very common last name, as common as Smith or Jones. I've told them several times that the person they are looking for does not live here so take my phone number off of their list. Of course, they continue to call! I've never had an account with Capital One or Capital One Auto Finance (and I never will)! What's ridiculous is that they are never going to get a dime from the person they are looking for because they are not calling him, they are calling me, and they are certainly not going to get a dime from me!

Capital one used fake marketing schemes to apply for credit card .
while talking to one of the agent, he assured me the card is 0% on everything for 12 months
i even asked him to check it and he gave me the link and encouraged me to apply for it . I got the card in the mail and called them to make a balance transfer and they told me it is not 0% on the balance transfer .
They use false techniques to make people attracted towards their card, and make people apply for it and once after the account is created they say differernt things .

My wife & I have a Capital One Visa and a Mastercard. We have had these cards for a long time. I make our payments online and am NEVER late. I also pay at least 3 to 4 times the minimal payment amount. We just received notification that Capital One is raising our APR by over 4%. This is absolutely ridiculous. Because of the current state of our economy, I could maybe understand a raise of 1%. It seems to me that they are trying to make up their losses by ripping off the people that pay their bills on time! I was told that if I didn't agree with the change, they would simply cancel my cards! I also believe that because of the changes in laws to control credit card companies that are supposed to be coming, they are getting their gouging in early. I doubt that the new laws will be retro-active and they won't have to reduce the APR.

I still have my papers for when I started my account with Capital One "No Hassel" credit card in October 2003. I signed up for a fixed rate of 4.99% for the life of the card. I started looking closer to my statements this month and noticed that the rate was 9.90%. I called customer service and got this spill about them sending out a notice in February of this month regarding this matter. They said they never got a response from me, so they went ahead and discontinued the 4.99% rate and started the 9.90% rate. I told them that I would have been stupid not to respond to something like that in order to keep my fixed rate of 4.99%. The would not refund me any of my interest over the last 6-7 months where they charged me 9.90%. I did not think they could do this without my written signed consent or something. I am livid and very upset. I will never use Capital One again. Is there anything that I can do? They should not be able to do this to any customer. Especially when we have proof from the papers that I have stating 4.99% fixed rate. They should be made to keep this agreement. They sure would expect me to keep an agreement.

Thank you,
Marty E. Ault

I had cancelled my card back in 2010 once it was paid off. They never cancelled and then proceeded to charge an annual fee along with monthly late charges. I have asked over and over again for transaction details being account is closed not able to pull of line and there is not one person at that company that will provide me with this. Now... they are garnishing my wages weekly in the amount of $141.00. Over $1500 in annual fees and late charges. I am not able to get anywhere with their customer service team and extremely rude every time i have contacted. Next step... Attorney Generals Office to file a consumer complaint. I have heard of them doing this to many people i know personally. Sad Sad Sad company!

Consumer beware...Capital one loan and credit card, started as a low interest rate and very good company to borrow money from.(At least I thought).
It started when I went on Vacation and I was blocked from using my Capital One, credit card.I was never over the limit and always paid triple on the account.
Out of no where, the interest rate was double ...I paid the balance off quickly, only to find out they wanted back interest. The interest had gone from 9.65 to 26.6%.
This company is not rational and should have been regulated, to stop practices like this.
I called and told them to take the card and cancel it and I also found to my surprize, a better interest rate with my Bank on a loan.
The consumer needs protection and should be protected from outragous companies, like this.
Just beware of Capital One.I'm sure we will be reading a lot about them.
Can anyone tell me if Capital One is American based company and why the Government doesn't step in and get control of businesses, that tries to rip the consumer off?
I haven't figured out why a business like Capital One, would want to run away, someone in good standing...

Capital One unable to cancel

I cancelled my credit card with Capital one 2 months ago. However, I keep getting charged for payment protection, an outside company. If I went to use this card it wouldn't be accepted, but they will allow their sister company to keep adding fees! What payments are they protecting? The balance is Zero until they let this company charge me again and again

Capital One capitol one sucks

Earlier this year someone got my credit card info and tried to purchse something online fraudulently. A month later I got an email from capitol one about it. I called them and they cancelled my credit card and issued another card in it's place. When it came payment time I tried to do online banking but my savings account info was gone. I contacted my savings bank online and asked for the bank routing number. I made the payment but it was refused as 'no such account'. I contact capitol one and found out what happenned and the rep reversed my late fees. I went into my bank and found out the routing number was for wire transfers and was given the correct number for online banking. Now every time they get a payment a 2 week hold is placed on it. In July a rep got rude with me saying it was all my fault and hung up on me when I demanded a supervisor. I called back and complained about that and a supervisor made a notation on my accout to fix this problem. So, I just made my sept payment and the hold is back again. I'm so sick of their crap!

Not sure what happened, but Capital One is trash now. Customer service is awful - phone, online, email. Thought in-person would be better. Went to a branch, and it was even worse. Hard to be both incompetent and rude, but Capital One is. I do not trust these people with my money or credit information.

Save yourself the trouble and take your business elsewhere.

I have 2 Capitol One credit cards I've been attempting to pay off to no avail. I called their 'customer service' and of course was met by someone who can' t speak English. I asked him to close both accounts. One had been paid off by check, which of course had been converted to something on my bank statement that made no sense and the copy of the check disappeared. The other account had disappeared and there was no trace of it. I'd sent in the payment stub with the full amount. The payment stub didn't have the full account number on it. They've always taken my checks before but decided this one was special so the payment was not taken nor was the check returned nor cashed. As far as I'm concerned this account no longer exists if they can' t find a record for it so it can be turned over to their favorite collection agency and they can eat the loss. These people are idiots and parasites. I hope they go under along with all of the other crooks that have failed in the last 2 years and they can take Chase and Santander with them. There should be a law against the type of usurious theft.

This company needs to go out of business! We hit a deer with or vehicle that is financed through them. Our insurance company made the check out to them and us. Their policy of course. They will not endorse the check and send it back so we can fix it anywhere we want. Their customer service is horrible they do not want to listen or help their customers what so ever. They just want to steal our money. I also did complain to the BBB and others should too! They are rip off artists and do not care about any thing.

I agree they should be out of business! We had a van and were making payments on time however one month the payday didn't fall right and we were TWO days late. From that time they refused to discuss the account, refused payments we tried to make through western union quick collect and NEVER called, emailed or mailed us. Yet they called all our references and anyone else that they could find that knew us and let them know we were "behind and refusing to make the payments" . Today the van was repossessed and the repo man (thank God) was on top of things and stopped their attempts to file charges on us for "hindering a secured creditor" My husband has worked the same job for 30+ years and we mailed them a letter and changed the address online the one time we moved. Our phone numbers never changed. How could they accuse us of hiding the vehicle or not making payments and what else could we have possibly tried? This company is bad news and I would advise anyone to stay clear of them!

Had the exact same thing happen, but they convienced the insurance company to write a second check $6700.00 to them, Capitol One approved the body shops quote for repairs and agreed to pay them when the repairs were done. Once the repairs had been made and payment was due, Capitol One said they applied the check to the balance of my account. How can they do that my payments were up to date even though the car was in the body shop.

When I called them they said there was nothing they could do I would have to pay the repair shop myself, and that I had a payment due three days ago. I asked what did the insurance check cover, meaning what months, the lady said the check was put at the end of the note, that's why I'm going to have to keep making payments. They told me that with the insurance check was paid on the account my balance was less than $4000.00.

I went to the body shop and explained the problem, they called Capitol One and was told the same thing. Body shop is out over $4800.00 for repairs I don't have the money to pay for, body shop put a lean on the car, against myself and Captiol One.

Talked with several attorneys but they said there is no LAW to prevent the insurance company or Captiol One from doing what was done. Who interests am I paying insurance for, my intestment in a car or Capitiol Ones.

Capital One scam and lies

I recently received a "special offer" for 0% APR for 12 months from Capital One. The letter stated that if I used any of the three attached checks by the deadline, I would receive this low interest rate for a year. So I used two checks (both of which were attached to this letter).

However, when the transactions went through, one apparently came in as a convenience check and the other as an access check. So they started charging me a finance fee for the so called convenience check. The problem here is that it was not a convenience check. They came from the same stub, attached to the same letter. How can they come in differently? I even verified that I met all the requirements - use by date, etc.

So I called customer service and the woman was very helpful at first. She told me that I was right and that she would have it fixed. "Just check your next statement." Guess what happened?

I had to call a second time because not only did the balance not move over to 0% interest, but now they need to credit me the finance charge for the last two statements. The first woman apparently only "put in a request" and it was denied by the higher-ups. Was anyone going to let the customer know?

Now, I must call a third time to talk to a "senior account manager" because this second woman can't do anything about it.

The moral of the story: MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR FINANCE CHARGES AND QUESTION FEES THAT DON'T MAKE SENSE. And here's probably the bigger lesson: don't ever use the checks that come in the mail claiming 0% interest b/c even when you read the fine print and everything is what it's supposed to be, they still get you. Though I will continue to try to get my money back, this "processing error" is a pain in the you know what. I wonder how many processing errors occur each day.

After reading about how unhappy the company's consumers are, I wonder how they are still in business - maybe they get the first time credit card holders. (They were my first, and after almost ten years, I'm still at the same interest rate (the 0% was too good to be true). My other credit card companies reward me with low rates for my good credit.)

Capital one is the absolute worst financial institution out there they try to devise ways to make you fail, I have been paying a car loan for five years without fail on time they then at the end of the loan lifr coun days you did not pay exactly on the due date (due date on the 8th of each month online banking sometimes takes a day or two to submit to them sometimes they would receive payment on the 9th or 10th at the latest falling well within grace periods allowed by all othee institutions now they say I owe an additional 87.00 bucks and I can no longer submit this final ### payment via online banking I have to send a money order to plano texas, what a crappy institution please if you are considering any business with them you should really re-consider, lets put them out of business!

I have had a similar problem with this company. I was offered a 0% introductory rate for purchases and balance transfers until 2/2/09. I contacted Capital One to determine the exact date the 0% was good to and was told by the representative that a finance charge of 14.99% was being charged on my balance transfer and the offer for 0% was not good for the transfer. I asked to speak with a supervisor who then determined it was Capital Ones error and they should have processed the balance transfer at 0% so he transferred me to another person to get it corrected. The next lady said no that it was correct at 14.99% but then proceeded to tell me that the offer when I opened the account was 0% on purchases and balance transfers were the same a purchases. Which would be 0%. She told me I was incorrect and who ever I spoke to earlier misinformed me on the error on Capital Ones part. She then transferred me to another account manager who again told me that the rate is correct at 14.99%. She asked me if I had my offer paperwork and explained that I no longer had it but told her I was advised by two representatives that my offer was 0% on purchases and balance transfer. I told her why would I transfer a balance to a card that is 14.99% when I have excellent credit. It makes no sense. They have over charged me over $1000 in interest. I have been reading other peoples complaints and it seems that this company is scamming customers and when they are called on it they will do nothing to help. You have some reps that will tell you it is their fault and they will transfer you to someone who will correct it but when you get the next rep they blame it on the customer. I worked in credit for many years and would never dream of treating customers this way. Something needs to be done with Capital One and the way they are doing business.

Capital One rip off

I have a personal loan with Capitalone. The payments come out of my checking each month, so they know they are going to get paid. There was an accident in front of my house and two of the family cars were totaled which made finances tight. I ask if they would defer a payment until the end of the loan. Do you think they would, of course not. They didn't even look at my account to see that I had been paying double on everything for over a year. They are uncaring individuals. I am very unhappy with them.

Capital One fraudilent practices!

When I received a pre-approved credit card solicitation from Orchard Bank, it said nothing about annual fees associated with the card. So when I called to respond to solicitation, the first thing I asked an account representative was whether or not the card had an annual fee. I was assured it did not. I made it very clear that unless the card had no annual fee and the introductory APR was locked at 0% for the first 12 months, I had no interest whatsoever to open that account. Again, I was assured by the account manager on the phone that the APR was indeed 0% for the first year and there was no annual fee. I also stated I was not interested in any other bogus fees, like proetection insurance, and such. I stated that the only thing I want to see on my monthly statements, were my purchases, and nothing else - otherwise, I have no interest in the product offered. Lo and behold, when I got my first statement, annual fee of $39 was listed there. After calling the 800 Customer Service # being placed on hold for about 6 minutes, I finally got to a customer service rep. After hearing my complaint, she informed me that she needs to transfer me to another account manager. I then repeated my complaint to the account manager. She informed me she regretted I was "misleaded" (her words, not mine - unfortunately, the lady possessed very poor command of English language) and said she will go ahead and close the account even though they were "sorry to lose my business". I pointed out to her that if she was truly sorry about losing my business, the right (and ethical) thing to do was to deliver on their promise of no annual fee card and waive that fee. She said again she was very sorry but she could not help me in any other way. I asked he if she really thought that the bank was actually going to collect the fee I was promised not to be charged in the first place, to which she replied, "if you don't pay us, we'll report you to all three national credit bureaus". Great practice, eh?

Orchard bank has a great way of ripping you off. Their credit protection elite is nothing more than a scam. and trust me when I say this I am having this issue looked at legally. I have the protection and have always had it since I got the card. So I get some Hindu clown who stated by the way he was in the USA. What a crock anyway. I retired in 2008 from my job. In october 2008 I had to go back to work at another job due to my wife being disabled. I worked there till 03/15/2010. This is when the company shut down our operation. I filed this paperwork along with the unemployment proof and I get a letter stating retirement is not covered I filed on the unemployment not retirement and by the way retirement is covered it is on their insurance page so they lied!. But take a look at the protection elite page. This Bin Laden sounding clown states that on page 15 it states retirement I asked this idiot what page 15 I only sent in 3 pages. Any way I believe Orchard Bank (HFC of Nevada) are guilty of Bank and lending fraud. So Now I will talk to a lawyer and My Attorney Generals office here where I live. But trust me when I say I have proof that they are guilty of bank fraud. So now it is time to stick it to them and their associates. ENOUGH OF THE ORCHARD BANK RIP OFFS! CARD HOLDERS IF YOU DONT FILE CHARGES AGAINST THEM THEY WILL ALWAYS GET AWAY WITH THEIR ILLEGAL ACTIVITY.
