On June 4, I visited the Wasaga Beach Ontario Canadian Tire store. I parked in the second parking spot in front of the store where one car and a shopping cart return station were between my F-150 and the store. I was in the store for about 15 minutes. When I came out, there was no car beside me and a shopping cart was bumped against the side of my truck. There were several scratches and a small dent in the rear right side door. My truck is otherwise in perfect condition - or was. I was surprised that the cart damaged my vehicle as there are plastic corner protectors on the cart but the carts are rather old so not in the best condition. I went into the store to report the incident and spoke with a manager who came out to look, took a picture or two, and said a presumably more senior manager would contact me. While I expected that their policy would be the typical 'no responsibility' I feel that the cart if in better condition should not have damaged my truck, and the carts should be taken in frequently as the lot is sloped. A week later I had still not been contacted. I tried phoning but was on hold and had to hang up. A day later I received the promised call from the manager who said they are not responsible for damage in the parking lot. This parking lot is exclusive to that store and I feel the condition of the carts is their responsibility. I am now stuck with a bill for probably about $500 for being a loyal Triangle Card-holding customer of Canadian Tire.
By taking a photo and saying they would contact me, they gave the distinct impression that they would assist me in this matter. I am very disappointed and as a senior on limited fixed income will find it difficult to pay the cost of the repair.
