Mr. Lube Canada - Lug nuts improperly installed

On 24 Nov 2023, I took my 2002 Acura to Mr. Lube in Medicine Hat for an oil change and to install my winter tires (already mounted on wheels). The mileage on my vehicle 14301 Kms. After the vehicle was serviced, I left and drove home. I thought I hear a thumping noise coming from the back of the vehicle. I thought maybe it was a flat spot in one of the tires. I parked the car and hadn't driven it all weekend.

On 27 Nov 2023, I had some errands to do. When I drove off the noise started to get louder. I decided to return home... I contacted a garage that is close to my house. They said they would be able to look at the vehicle a little bit later. I dropped the vehicle off at the shop and walked home. The mileage on the vehicle was 145323 Kms. The shop contacted me a couple of hours later and told me my car was ready. I walked back to the shop to pick up my vehicle.

The shop manager told me they checked the vehicle and found 4 lug nuts missing from the right rear wheel. They replaced the 5 lugs and torqued the wheels to 100 lb/ft. They indicated the wheel had a small amount of elongation on 2 holes. I took the car home and everything was fine. I was very mad at the people at Mr. Lube. Losing those lug nuts could have caused serious damage or injury. I decided I would wait of couple of days before going back to Mr. Lube.

When I went back to Mr. Lube, I asked to speak to the boss, but he was apparently not in till the afternoon. I explained what had happened. One of the employees made it sound like it was my fault. but I ignored him. I gave them a copy of the bill from the other garage. I was told the boss/owner would phone me that afternoon. I never received a phone call. I went back the following day, once again, I talked to a lady and was told the boss wouldn't be in till later that afternoon. I told her what had happened, and that I may have left the wrong phone number. I gave her my phone number. She said he would phone me later this afternoon. Once again I never received a call from the owner.

I find this incident very frustrating and a poor reflection on Mr. Lube franchises. In addition this could have had caused serious damage and/or injury!

Claimed loss: To diagnose & rectify the issue was $74.08 I expect to be compensated this amount. However should if this not case it will have no option but to sue the franchise as well as the company.
