Brakes Plus review: Chevy captiva service

On 12 Feb 2026, my wife and I dropped off our 2013 Chevy Captiva for an oil change and to repair a small oil leak due to aged sealant. We received a call on Friday stating they'd found the Tension Chain was loose and asked if we wanted to have them repair it. For an additional 1200$, we agreed. They called us again on Sat stating there were "missing parts" from whoever had originally installed the timing chain and it would not be ready till Monday. On Mon, they called again to inform us the job was taking longer than usual, but should be ready that Wed.

On Wednesday, we picked up the vehicle, I headed to work and my wife went to pick up our kid from school. Upon departing the school, everything went wrong. The check-engine light came on, the entire car would shudder at idle for any stop and the gas pedal was sluggish. My wife immediately returned the vehicle to Brakes Plus, got a rental and repairs continued.

Brakes Plus informed us this time that it was a Solenoid that needed replacing, but they wouldn't charge us as it was something they had likely impacted. This time we were unable to pick up the vehicle until Mon 23rd, at which point we were informed everything was good to go.

On Tuesday 24, she went to drop off our kid at school and on the return, the car went haywire. Upon heading up the pass to our town, the check-engine light came on; the car overheated; it would not accelerate past 40mph; the interior smelled like stale gasoline and the pedal again acted sluggishly. She barely made it to our small local auto shop where it remained for additional trouble-shooting.

On the 12th, our car went in for a minor repair and an oil change. A week and a half later, our car is inoperable and we are forced to actively look for a new vehicle. I am done with Brakes Plus after this fiasco.
