Received a gift card for Christmas and was able to use it exactly once before it was locked. Jumped through hoops on the phone, told to wait til next day for a call from someone that could help. A few hours into waiting the following morning I noticed I had an email from them requesting a copy of my driver's license and the receipt. I don't have the receipt. It was a gift. Of a GIFT card. Meant to be a gift. They know this and factor it into the scam. And they're never getting a scan of my driver's license. Ignoring the fact that they asked for it to be transmitted via email, the least secure protocol on the internet, God knows what database breach that'll turn up in if it isn't stolen internally first.
I didn't need a license to register my name and address to the card in the first place. The email I attached to it was the same one they were conversing with me on.
Anyway, the short and long of it is they stole my gift and wanted a copy of my license to even look at giving it back. I don't have the receipt so it wouldn't have even mattered. It was long thrown away by the purchaser.
Don't buy cards from these thieves. They count on the amount not being worth the hassle or that the receipt is long discarded, wait for the card to expire and rake in untold amounts of money across the millions of locked and lost cards every year.
