I paid about $180 for a 1 year service contract. I explained to the rep. before signing the contract that I was a computer idiot. I am in my 70's and disabled. I needed a contract whereby the Squad would come to my home and setup by new desktop computer system with all components (like my old computer which was still hooked up upon his arrival) functioning properly — and — for a year, my in-home visits by their technician (if I had any) would be covered by the contract. Five days ago, I could not find the Scanner function of my new computer system. I did an online search about the problem. I discovered that the scanner function was missing from my computer. I called the Squad and was told that my home call would cost me $99.99. I said that I had a contract for home calls. They told me that the Contract is for a discounted price, but my discounted price was $99.99. They told me that my Contract was for a 20% discount for each home visit — but, nothing else. So, I paid $180.00 for a 20% discount. THEIR tech did not install all the components that they told me that they would install. So, for the Tech's negligence, I have to pay the price for it — an additional $99.99 to the already paid $180. I think that the Squad is a ripoff! I believe that the Techs deliberately do not hookup all the functions for the computer as a deliberate act. So, that they have to come back for an additional charge of $99.99. AVOID the Geek Squad — that's my advice.
Recommendation: AVOID the Geek Squad --- that's my advice.
