taking things that don't belong to them
Hi my name is Christine Buss! I have been a member to audible. since the year 2010 the year 2012 I spent Close to $5000 in audible books. I have discussed this With the first supervisor I have ever talk to at Audible. I discussed that I had 487 titles and 18 titles were missing. He was very Belligerent races in the Belittling my situation. He would not let me get a word in edge wise he was Talking over the top of me every time I would bring up something that I thought was very important me and should be talked about. He still was talking over-the-top for me until I started yelling at him, so my complaint Would be heard. I explained to him that on December 10, 2012 I renewed my membership twice. Also I don't remember if that was the same date I returned several titles. I thought I was stuck with the titles from Robyn Carr that I did not like All along with cold Mountain, bag of bones, silent Spring, and a couple of other books that I can't remember right this moment. At this point it was out of control a manager in that situation should not have let this get out of control like he did. I then asked him to add up all of the books the books and what I spent there and it was close to $5000. I then Was told that Audible did not need anymore money that they made enough money and that he would be canceling my account even though I had one credit left. I have talk to several people and no one has done anything about this situation I am missing18 titles and I don't know where they went! Two weeks prior to noticing this I had 487 titles in my library and on my iPhone. I got Curious when my library said I had only 462 titles. I then looked at my tablet and my tablet was not hooked up to the Internet For quite some time. The tablet did say I had 487 titles in my library. I refresh my tablet and it had then said I had 462 titles in my library. There are 18 titles Or credits That are missing. I did not keep track of every book that I bought from audible. I thought Audible Was a TRUST WORTHY COMPANY. I DID NOT THINK THAT AUDIBLE WOULD DO SUCH A THING. ALL OVER 18 CREDITS THAT I PURCHASED AND THEN TOOK AWAY A YEARS WORTH OF MEMBERSHIP THAT I ALSO PURCHASED. SHAME ON AUDIBLE! I HAVE GIVEN ON AUDIBLE THREE WEEKS TO TAKE CARE OF THIS SITUATION AND AUDIBLE HAS DONE NOTHING! I AM SURE THE READERS ON MY FACEBOOK WOULD BE INTERESTED TO KNOW WHAT AUDIBLE HAS DONE. AS WELL AS THE PEOPLE I KNOW.
bogus charges
So apparently audible has been charging my card since July of 2011 with $14.95 a month. I have NEVER signed up for or purchased a single thing from audible. In fact, when I was once tempted by their free trial offer, the fact that they required a credit card number to register turned me off and I explicitly chose not to avail myself of their free offer. I called SunTrust to dispute the charges and they were very helpful. They are going to have to replace my debit card because the nature of the charges is odd: it's not listed as a recurrent monthly charge but rather Audible charges each month like a new transaction which requires I get a new card in order to stop it. I read elsewhere that Audible is part of the Amazon empire and seeing as I have given Amazon my debit card information (at almost exactly the time the Audible charges began) that is how they got my debit card number. SUPER SHADY!

had problems downloading a certain book
Had problems downloading a certain book. Called several times, they all promised they would get back but they never did!
I had the same problem I was on the phone for over 4 hr with tech department. Went through every possible fix over the phone with 4 different people. When no one could fix the problem I was told that I would receive a call from (I guess) a tech guru. This happened 2 times both times no call back. Then I thought I would call and close my account thinking this will get a response. No no big deal gave me my money back like no problem. I thought for sure I would get oh please sir I will get you the assistance you need right now. Nope it was like we are so big we do not need you. I would love to do a you tube complaint and have it go all over the net. The sad thing is I still would like to get audio books.
debit card fraud
On may 29, 2012 audible.com charged my debit card for $7.49, the funny thing is I don't have an account at audible.com so I called my bank and told them about the fraudulent transaction. My bank returned my money, cancelled my debit card and they sent me a new card, but then on june 26, 2012 audible.com charged me again for $7.49 and I said to myself wtf! So this time I called audible.com and told them that I do not have an account on them and the representative asked me for my email address, but I just told him that I don't have an account on them, so then he asked for my debit card number and I told him that I don't remember my debit card number because I already destroyed it because I got a new one. Then he asked for my new debit card number, so out of curiosity I gave him my debit card number and he put me on hold to check the account on that debit card. Few minutes later he's back and said that he found the account... Wtf! He also said the name on the account and guess what.. It's my name wtf! I told him I don't have an account on them and he gladly refunded my money and closed "my account" the question is how did they managed to get my new debit card number? Can someone share a bright light on this one? F! Audible. Scam
addendum from my original post. Someone got a hold of my debit card number and created an account using my name. There's another post here somewere that AUDIBLE. COM has a contract with visa or other banks that if a card was cancelled, visa and some banks will provide a new debit card number to them. WTF!
credit card fraud
I was surprised to see that a company under the amazon.com logo would engage in such fraudulent business practices. I am currently disputing four months of a subscription that I do not remember signing up for. Not only that, the customer "support" at audible.com could not even find my credit card information on their computers! I am hoping that my bank will be able to successfully dispute their credit card charges over the next few months. Until then, I will spread this message to friends and family: do not ever use audible.com, I and several hundred others online have lost a lot of money to this greedy company!

Audible scammed me twice. I have NEVER even signed up for a free trial because I don't download books or music. They got me a few years back...with a credit card on my AMAZON account. Now I just noticed they have been charging me $16 and change a month since March of 2016. Yep...my Amex card I had on file under my Amazon account. I didn't catch it until today because I am trying to pay the card off and don't use it. The card had also expired on my Amazon account 12/2014...so...I filed a complaint with Amex and they are checking into it. I also contacted the I###TS at Audible ...they are only willing to refund me 4 months worth of charges...after they ripped me off for $147. I like Amazon...but this has forced me to think about if I want to cancel my Amazon card and also my Prime membership. I have deleted my credit cards off of my Amazon account page. From now on if I order anything I will have to enter card info each time. Seems to be the only way to avoid these a**holes from unauthorized fraudulent charges.
Had subscribed to their service for a few months but cancelled back in june/july and they are still charging me!
We had a similar experience. Amazon denies sharing information with Audible, but that doesn't seem credible in light of what happened to us.
We had several months worth of charges when I finally thought to ask my husband what he was buying on the shared card. He was mystified, so I called Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo called Audible and conferenced me in. While we waited on the line, the rep used all of our email addresses and telephone numbers. She was able to find my husband's address based on his phone number, but his email address was not linked to an account with Audible. The WF rep eventually gave up, hung up on Audible, and passed me over to the fraud department. The card was cancelled, and all the charges were refunded to us.
After we received the new card, we both updated our information with Amazon. On 7/25, Audible charged our brand new credit card. Take note that we know exactly which online accounts were updated with the new credit card information--Audible was not among them.
I called Audible, and the rep found the email address with which our credit card information was associated. It was an email address that belonged to another individual whom we have never heard of. The account had never been used. The rep deleted the account and refunded the charge (at least in theory--I haven't seen it yet on a bank statement).
The reply to my email to Amazon said: "I'm very sorry for the inconvenience you experienced in this case. I understand you're being charged $16 per month by audible and an e-mail address that doesn't belongs to you is associated with the audible account. Since you're being charged service fee by the Audible.com you'll need to contact them to resolve this issue. Although Audible is part of the Amazon family, Audible is independently operated."
It appears far more likely that Amazon and Audible are sharing a database with customers' personal and financial information and the database scrambled the information at some point. I plan to pursue this with Amazon, but if I cannot make any headway, I will report it to my bank and to law enforcement. There are only two choices here: either Amazon failed to safeguard our account information or someone hacked one of our accounts and used the card number to set up an account s/he had no intention of using.
Which do you suppose is more likely? But if Amazon continues to deny, then I will have no choice but to take precautions based on the other choice.
recurring charges
On June 2011 I downloaded a single audio book from Audible.com and was charged $17.19 on my credit card. But later I discovered a recurring charge of the same amount on the next 3 months so I had my card canceled in order that I could stop to pay. Complaints sent by e-mail were unanswered .
Read full review of Audiblewon't let me cancel - keeps billing
Canceled a trial membership before the deadline. Checked account status on-line to verify cancellation. Yep. Five days later, they bill me anyway. I get on-line again to see that the record of my cancellation had been removed from my account settings! I called to complain. They said they would cancel me (again) and would send me an email stating they would be giving me refunds. No refunds mentioned, only my cancellation. I'm currently canceled again, but am not sure if audible will again 'erase' the record of my cancellation. Visa says if they do it to me again next month, that I may be able to block future billings.
The problem visa pointed out, is that without proof of cancellation, and as I once had a user agreement with them, I may not be able win the disputes. Further, deleting my credit card info from audible will not protect me from future charges, armed with my user agreement, audible can go after a new credit card. Important advice: if you cancel a membership... Print out proof.
impossible to cancel subscription, double billing
Dont subscribe to this service, you will never be able to cancel your monthly subscription!
I have logged two complaints via their website and one mail to cancel this service with no reply whatsoever. The links on the website to cancel your subscription have disappeared (convenient for them)
I have not used this service in a while and yet I was billed twice this month. (my monthly subscription and another similar amount 5 days later, this after I canceled my subscription.
And if you are not a us citizen, do not use this service, none of the best sellers are "available for your geographical location", you will pay the same subscription as all the other customers but you will not have access to any best sellers. The best seller lists for 2009 are empty in my profile, thrillers, non fiction, ny times best sellers are empty.
Browse the selection without logging in and see what you are not able to download.
Buyer beware!

fraud
I had canceled my visa debit card. I then noticed a charge on my account from audible.com. I checked my account on their website and they had the new visa debit card which I had never given them. I called and they said they did not know how they got it. Two days later they called and told me they have a contract with visa and other card companies to receive the new card #s of customers who cancel their cards. They actually told me visa was providing the service to me. I called wells fargo who said they do not give out new numbers and do not believe visa could have. I called visa and got an office in panama. When I asked for the phone # for corporate headquarters they said they don't have phones there. Unbelievable. I canceled that card and told wells fargo not to charge anything else on the card, but another unauthorized charge appeared. I called the bank 4 times, got put on hold, hung up on, etc. I then went to the bank and they told me the only thing I could do was call the 1-800 #. At this point I became an evil # woman. I called the attorney general's office and will file complaints about the whole bunch. Audible.com took my account web page down, hmmm, something to hide?

I am getting charged on an old card for 15.95 American Express seems to not be able to block this payment as there is still yet another transaction on my account after the credits. Wow! The company says I should not be charged. They have no offices or numbers to file complaints. India? They don't know why I'm being charged. Well, that makes three of us. The credit card, them and me! Fraud Charges are still occurring now for over a year now. Want to choke the criminals! They are laughing all the way to the bank! Imagine how much money they are making off of credit card companies and those that are not paying attention to each transaction on their card!
Same here! I have been out of the country for some time and have not been scrutinising my online bank statements.
I got back into the country a few days ago and decided to check all was ok..
It was not, Audibles(whoever TF they are) have been illegally taking £7.99 every month from my account since April this year!
This is diabolical and has put me in literally furious mood, HOW DARE THEY...
I have now contacted my bank asking them to stop any further payments and written to this bunch of thieves known as AUDIBLES asking them to refund my stolen money.
Whether this stops or I get a refund is yet to be seen.
I'm completely gobsmacked
I made a purchase from Amazon last night. Guitar equipment and a doll for my daughter for Christmas. This morning, I have a charge from Audible on my bank account. Login to Audible and I have no subscription according to them, but this is the SECOND time in TWO months that I've had to get a debit card reissued due to Audible charges. I wish I could just put a complete stop payment on their website, never authorizing the charges, but I don't know if my bank would do that. I'm super pissed because my son is having surgery tomorrow and I'll need my debit card at the hospital and now I don't have the ability to use it because Audible is stealing my money.
I wish I had read this in January 2018 when I tried to cancel my audible account. I called and the rep said that I did not have an account. Every month since then I have been charged on my Visa card which I dispute and get reimbursed. I called Visa and was told I could cancel my card to stop the charges. I had no idea that audible has been ripping off so many of us for so many years. These complaints go all the way back to 2010. I no longer have the phone number for audible but I did finally see on my Amazon prime account that audible is a service on my prime account and that I would be charged for it. I cancelled my Amazon prime account, I can't believe that Amazon would partner with such a company. Audible steals, cheats, lies and is still getting away with it. Unbelievable!
It seems that I am not alone, and I am echoing my complaint! Audible charged me $15/month for nine months before I caught on and noticed the charges on my Amazon account. I called to get this issue cleared up, and all the customer service rep wanted to put my account on hold! After I said absolutely not, she did agree to cancel it. Then, Audible started charging my Discover card - one that I had never even used in connection with my Amazon account! I seriously do not know how they can get away with this!
I keep getting charged on my visa debit for audible $20/month cause Canada. And I haven't accessed my account in a year. After I cancelled it cause I stopped using it. I also received a visa prepaid card where there was already a charge on it from audible right after I opened it. That was a week after it was activated and I opened it on Christmas as a gift.
I have never had a subscription with Audible. But they were charging me on one card and then I cancelled it, then I found they started using another card with another company, same again and then a third card with a different company. This time Chase. Within two months I had to cancel my card, and get two Audible transactions refunded. Now I am going through the same process again. All I can think of is that Audible is getting credit card details from Amazon and using them to make their fraudulent charges.
What in hell is the Attorney Generals office doing about this? I mean both States and Federal... This is open Theft and it appears NO one is doing a thing about it. What do we as a people have to do to make the government do their damned jobs?
I've filed a complaint with the FTC. "I signed up for the free trial of Amazon Prime on April 23, 2017. At the end of this free trial, Amazon automatically signed me up for services provided by another company they own, Audible. This is not a service I wanted or requested, but had inadvertently opted into through the Amazon Prime membership process. After two months of Amazon Prime--one month free and one month paid--I canceled my Amazon Prime membership, unaware that I was also an Amazon Audible customer; at the time of my Amazon Prime cancellation, the Amazon Audible remained active. In addition, for unrelated reasons, I had canceled my debit card in early July 2017, yet on August 29, 2017, monthly charges from Amazon Audible continued again. I was charged for Amazon Audible in the amount of $16.49 on 06/29, 10/30, 12/04 and 12/29 and on 08/29, I was charged $14.95. Fortunately, my bank will probably reverse these charges; my claim is pending and I've had very good experiences with my bank in the past to resolve these kinds of problems. My bank was already familiar with this exact issue and with their other customers experiencing this same problem with Amazon Audible. Thankfully, this pattern of behavior works in my favor. However, after a cursory internet search, I have read about several people who are experiencing this same situation and who have observed Amazon Audible billing find a way to resume charges through VISA even after people have canceled their cards."
If people are gonna be suing i want to be a part of it.

online scam
A year ago I received three audiobooks from audible.com. When I received the e-mails informing me of my gifts, I clicked on the "www.audible.com/redeem" link in the e-mail. I was then taken to a log in screen. You have to have an account (complete with credit card number) in order to redeem gifts. After logging in, I was taken to a "are you sure you want to redeem this?" screen. I clicked redeem, and was charged for the audiobook. My credit card was charged as if I went to their website, put a book in my cart, and bought it. I called customer service, and they promptly fixed the problem.
Yesterday, one year later, I get a gift from audible... And the exact same thing happens. I call to get it fixed, and am told that this happens all the time. They obviously know this is a problem, and they do nothing to rectify the situation... Nothing for the last year.
I am irate that I cannot receive a gift from them without strife. I realize that I can copy the redeem code, go to the website, and paste it in the box... But, I shouldn't have to if there is a link in the e-mail. A link that they are happy to leave broken. Shame on me for assuming they care enough for their customers to fix a broken link that charges people for presents that have already been paid for by another person.
I have politely asked the person who gifts me these books to give me an itunes card instead!

they suck!
My son cancelled his account and they still charged him the following month... Incurring $40.00 in overdraft fees (he's 16 with very little in the bank). When I went to cancel the account today, I found that I couldn't do it over the internet - had to contact them by phone. We are going to have to close his account so they will stop drawing money out. They suck!

I can not access my Audible as my phone number has changed, Customer Service was so difficult to connect to, then they can't do a thing. So all my books that I have paid for are lost.
This is not an acceptable solution for a company that has become too large that they DO NOT CARE!
Hello,
On January 28, 2023, my account was debited for 14.95 with additional charge for taxes or so.
Since I don't remember ordering anything from this website, I encourage you to please investigate and provide refunds asap.
below is a screen shot of the transaction.
From December 6th, 2021 until now, I've received monthly charges of $14.95 to my bank from Audible. I don't have an Audible account.
Since I don't have an Audible account, Audible has provided no way for me to cancel these charges.
Audible has been charging my Amazon Prime Visa without authorization on 8/21/22 and many other dates
I discovered that I've been being charged monthly...without my authorization since January of 2019! I never noticed because A. I buy things through Amazon constantly so it didn't stand out and B. It doesn't show up on your purchases/orders screen. You have to get into the electronic orders section to see the charges and hey, if you never do electronic orders, then why look? So I had around $640 worth of audible services over a 43 month period of time!
I called the Audible department expecting a fight, but they refunded me every penny. I did have to provide them with the last 4 digits of the credit card/s associated with the account to get it. Since I had three card numbers during this time frame, I had to call my Visa company to get the past numbers, but they could easily access that info and Amazon gave me back the money.
On a side note, I do think it's sneaky to auto charge customers after a trial. I don't even remember starting a trial. I've never once listened to an audiobook. But sure enough, there was one book in my library that was the culprit for launching the trial. Funny thing is...I've never even heard of the book and it was not listened to...so not sure how that happened.
i got charged $16.00 and bought nothing from them there information number is

I had fixed the issue and cancelled my subscription, my bad!
On November 23rd, 2016 I was charged 14.99 for audible from Amazon. I have never used this or authorized them to charge my card. I called the number, and was unable to get a hold of anyone. I will have to call my bank and let them know so they can get a hold of the the company and rebute the charges.
I keep getting charged 14.95 a month on my credit card. I have no idea how your company got my information, but this is fraud and stealing. Please contact me asap to reimburse my account.
