Armstrong Realty Management

(Preface: I live on the top floor of the back of a small building. I am the ONLY person that resides on the top floor.) I have bottled water (5 gallon jugs) delivered to my apartment in a walk up building about once a month. As always, I need to leave the empties for the water company (which are lined up neatly against the wall and out of the way of traffic) to pick up since those are technically rented out. They are $10 a piece. The new superintendent has been tossing them and I will get charged by the water company. I called to see if the management company would be willing to at least split the difference by letting me deduct from my rent since I will be stuck fronting the bill. Their reply was, “No. Your stuff shouldn’t be the hallway. It violates safety regulations.” In the meantime, the owner of the building had a giant old fashioned “tube” television in the middle of the hallway for about 6 months that actually would obstruct traffic. The management company’s reply was, “Well, that’s her decision” to which I said. “Ah, so if I got stuck in a fire behind her TV that’d be okay seeing that I’m the only person who lives up there.” Them: “Yeah, we’re still not paying you or allowing you to deduct rent. Go ahead, take us to small claims. This is the building owner’s decision(s).”
