Angies List review: Unfinished kitchen project

Found a kitchen remodeler, John Compton, through Angie's list. Interviewed him and another remodeler. Signed a contract with Mr. Compton on Feb. 17 giving him a check for half of the contract price on that date. Subsequently giving him appropriate money on dates specified in the contract, even giving him an advanced payment. Halfway through the contract things started going south. Subcontract refused to do more work because they weren't getting paid my backsplash was cancelled because of non payment. I had to hire companies with the promise of daily payment to get them to finish the work. An out of pocket expense for me that I had paid Mr. Compton for previously. Today's date is Aug. 5, 2026 and my lichen won't be finished until the end of this month at the earliest. My family has been without kitchen appliances since June 3, 2026. So this has ment many meals out. John seemed like a nice man good reviews on Angie's but from my experience be careful, in fact I'd say run the other way.
