I recently did a 15 day National Parks Amtrak tour. There were lengthy delays; 4 hours+ on two different occasions. I guess that can’t be helped. However, the most miserable experiences occurred in the dining car. You can get hungry on a train and look forward to meal time. That is when most, not all of the servers exert their power over you and they become the masters of this domain. You dare not enter the dining car without their permission…even if just passing through to the viewing car I was aggressively questioned what did I think I was doing. Did I have permission? Isai just passing through. I was rudely told ‘go on then’.
Don’t hesitate on you orders or you may get extra long fingernails rapidly pointing at things on the menu you should have already stated. Be careful not to forget to say “baked potatoe” if that is what you really want but forgot to say, even though it is offered with that meal set.
The rudest service I have ever experienced in a sit down, white table cloth, dining room situation. Very aggressive, angry?, unhappy people. I did notice if you were a black patron and while into your meal you decided you wanted some tobascco sauce if came delivered with no problem. I was reluctant to ask for more water.
