Since mid-April 2026, roughly 70% of the locomotives have been blowing their horns (usually two long loud blasts) 24/7 on the eastern main line between Baltimore and Washington DC at or about signal 1165. This location is adjacent to the small communities of 5th Avenue and Woodwardville, MD, which are between Odenton and Bowie stations. The 30% or so of the locomotives that don't blow their horn irresponsibly are usually MARC and Accela passenger trains.
It is understandable to blow the horn when someone is on or working immediately next to the rails. Unfortunately, 99% of time no-one is on or near the tracks.
Appears some policy change or organizational level harassment has been implemented. Whatever is the source of the horn blowing, it needs to stop.
Claimed loss: Neighborhood level loss of sleep and freedom from unnecessary irritation.
Desired outcome: Stop the habitually blowing of the locomotive horns for no good reason.
