I plan to file a formal complaint. This is just a short version. Amtrak reservations booked 3 sets of reservations for a cross country trip. The first set was fine. When I called to add a short ride to New York, the reservationist said he could do it cheaper. The tickets didn’t print. Then his boss stepped in and booked a third set of reservations. To date (3/26/26) I have not been refunded for ANY of these reservations. I got on the train, was in my room, and asked to leave it at midnight because I wasn’t on the manifest. I spent the next 3 hours with Amtrak (on hold mostly) trying to rebook my reservations. My credit card company denied the charges because Amtrak was attempting to book a 4th set of reservations at 2:00 a.m., for $3,000.00. Of course the credit card company flagged it. After several failed attempts to get the cc number to work, the cc company security division stepped in and lifted the restrictions. Before I could pay for the new tickets online, the conductor told me to get off the train in Cleveland. The reservation desk in there was hell and he spoke to the conductor and came back and told me I was not allowed on Amtrak anymore and that that conductor did not want me on his train. The reservationist also told me to leave the premises. I asked him how I could get home. He told me to “figure it out.” So I waited in a dark parking lot at 71 years old, waiting for a cab. As I said, I did not assign reservation numbers, I have yet to be refunded. To put someone off a train who paid for 3 sets of tickets - THEIR MISTAKES - I’m not finished with this. Every person I’ve shared this with could not believe the cruel behavior of the conductor and the reservationist in Cleveland. I do plan to address this formally.
Recommendation: Stay away from these arrogant liars.
