I was shopping at the Goldens Bridge Acme today and had a disturbing and potentially dangerous incident. I've been shopping here for years mostly to pick up a few items for dinner.in light of the Coronavirus restrictions (and 6 foot safe distance Governor Cuomo has prescribed for our safety) I prefer to go off hours because the aisles are very narrow. As I turned to enter an isle a man was shopping in an area I was also interested in. I patiently waited for him to finish (about a full minute) when I saw him make his selection but didn't move away. I asked him politely if he would let me pass and he said "go past". When I mentioned the 6 foot distance because of the Coronavirus he said "I don't care"! I decided to go around and take the item from the other side of the aisle. As I reached for my item he mentioned something but "[censored]" is all I heard. I left the aisle and went to the next but still heard him talking disparagingly about my mask and uniform. At that point an angry exchange ensued. I left the area and went to the far side of the store (near the meat) but he followed me there and our argument continued. Afterward Kevin (a store manager) came walking over to me. I know him a long time so I pointed out the guy I was having trouble with. He said there was nothing he could do about the closeness and added "I don't believe that [censored] either". I said that Govenor Cuomo is asking everyone to maintain 6 feet of space where possible. He responded "Cuomo is a piece of [censored]! I never voted for him"! He then walked away saying "I can't wait to leave this state"! I've always sympathized with Kevin because he's a very unhappy guy in a bad situation. I was wondering if Acme would be better served to move Kevin from his current store and give him a less stressful position. He doesn't like his job (or like NY for that matter) so maybe it would serve all concerned if he was given a choice to be transferred. These are dangerous, stressful times for all New Yorkers. I believe his incendiary attitude makes a bad situation far worse and may spur on a tragic incident.
