don't honor warranty
I bought an Sharp Aquas Flat Screen LC37D62U from Abe's and a separate 3 year warranty in 2007. My sound started to disappear and I could not make it louder. I called Abe's for repair and they said my warranty was with "Repair Tech" and they went out of business. Abes chose that company for their warranties so they should be responsible for their business liaisons. One more reason never to buy a warranty.

unauthorized charges
This store has stolen from us - and their salesmen are pushy, shifty and underhanded. I placed an order for a new TV on 10/17/2008 at 4:28 p.m. CDT. I then had a question and called them, only to hear a recording stating that they are only open four days a week and a half-day on Fridays. I canceled my order immediately (4:55 p.m. CDT).
The following Monday, 10/19/2008 (11:20 a.m. CDT), I received an email from Adi Reed with Abe's confirming the cancellation. My bank card was not charged at that point. Then, a pushy salesman with Abe's named Larry called several times during the week and left messages for me. I did not call him back because I purchased the TV from another merchant.
On October 24, Larry went into their system and created a whole new order (new order number and everything) and charged my card $1, 547.18 without my knowledge or consent! This caused my bank account to be overdrawn by over $1, 000 and has caused severe financial hardship, not to mention several hundred dollars in overdraft charges. Because this credit card is linked to my checking account, I will be charged $35 for each and every overdraft. So far, the bank is already going to charge $325.00. More is sure to follow. The bank has not posted these charges, but they will do so tonight.
I intend to pursue this to the fullest extent of the law. I believe that this Larry at Abe's of Maine knowingly, and maliciously, processed this charge in spite of the fact that I had clearly canceled the order.
I am disabled and we don't have a lot of money, and $1, 500 is a lot to us. It appears (to me) that Larry got frustrated/angry because I didn't return his phone calls and subject myself to his high pressure sales tactics. Well, they are going to regret this. Because of my disability, I have nothing else to do all day, so I am going to pursue this along every legal and public avenue I can.
I have one last thing to say directly to those at Abe's of Maine:
I hope you read this, and I hope you give long and serious thought to the direction you're headed in this economy. Many businesses selling luxury items like electronics are going to fail, starting with the crooks who took advantage when times were good. Businesses that treat their customers like you have treated yours will soon become and endanged species. You'd better get rid of thugs that deceive and rip off customers and treat your customers better. If your head is still in the sand after reading this, then you ought to surf on over to your local Better Business Bureau's website and read about your unsatisfactory history. Unfortunately for myself, I wish I would have done so before trying to purchase something from you.

Very, very satisfied. Product that I wanted, in a large order, were all on available on the site and had the best prices. Salesman (Peter) was really knowledgible and nice. I paid for 4-6 day shipping and received my complete order the next day. They have a customer for life.
I had the same type of experience with Abes. The same lying and high pressure up sale tactics. I also dealt with Larry, but went to another salesperson who was even worse. I finally got to Teddy who was nicer but did the same high pressure sell. Saying the shipping was free on my TV but I was required to buy insurance because he guaranteed the tv would be broken when it arrived. He convinced me to upgrade the shipping on the larger of the 2 tv's I purchased so it would not come "broken". He also pressured me to buy the warranty and knowing that I needed the tv's soon and their reputation for not shipping unless you cave in to the sales pitch, so I bought the warranty to get my tv's quickly. After a week and several calls they finally admitted the tv's were not shipped but would be soon. I told them I wanted to cancel the order but the supervisor called me right back and said he could send out the smaller tv from a different vendor (which I found out was Amazon and was $145 cheaper there). He shipped that one, but I found out he did so just to lock me into a package deal. After another week and no shipping notice I called again and the same supervisor (Jason) said he ship out the larger tv because he fired his trucking company and had to find one that would ship to me. I tried several times to cancel my order and was bullied repeatedly. He finally "offered" to charge me an additional $75 on top of the $150 I already paid for shipping to ship the tv at today's current price (which had gone down). I finally convinced him to cancel the order, but now he refused to credit me for the shipping that I never used on the larger tv. He instead offered me restaurant gift cards. I told him I was calling my credit card company to cancel the order. He again tried to intimidate me into not calling them, finally saying he would win a claim for the shipping charges. I called my cc company and they took care of me. I dealt with at least 4 different employees at Abes and each one lied to me about the status of my order and used high pressure lies to upsell me. These guys are as crooked as they come. Stay away form them!
terrible customer service
On 17 October 08 I ordered a Denon receiver from Abe's of Maine. One acknowledgment email and nothing further.
By late Monday, 20 October, I checked the Abe's of Maine web site and found no progress on the order. Moreover, the transaction had not been charged to my credit card. I checked the web and found lots of complaints about Abe's of Maine concerning calls to sell more stuff and charges for shipping. I decided to cancel the order.
I sent many emails stating the order was canceled; no response to any. Also made calls to Customer Service, which were put on hold.
Yesterday I discovered the transaction had been charged to my card; I immediately canceled the transaction and sent more emails to Abe's of Maine. Again, no response whatsoever.
Fortunately I specified on the original order that shipment must be made with Signature Required. I will refuse any attept to deliver. The run around and total lack of communication is a huge annoyance and certainly the worst customer service I've ever encountered.
On Wednesday 22 October I discovered a box on the front porch here in PA. A UPS delivery with the Abe's of Maine return address. No one knocked or required a signature. It's pretty beat up, slit open on one side with peanuts escaping. I have now sent emails to Abe's of Maine that they own a box on my porch and have 48 hours to have it removed. They are in NJ; I have a second home there so taking them to court may be my next step.
I will never, never shop at Abe's of Maine again.

I have been shopping for TV and decided on giving Abes of Maine as they had what I wanted at a good price. After I place the order on-line I got a call from the store to "verify my order". After we reviewed the order and agreed it was correct the hard sell to upgrade my shipping and my mount for the TV started. After telling the sales guy "no thanks" 5 times he still kept going on until I told him that I wanted to cancel the order. He advised he could not help me with that and transferred me to customer service. I sat on hold for over 20 minutes until I was finally helped. When I did talk to someone in customer service and told them that I wanted to cancel my order they asked if I was given the upgraded shipping and mount that the sales guy was badgering me about would I keep the order placed. I agreed to keep the order placed and was told a follow up email would be sent confirming the upgrades. No email ever showed up, the order when reviewed was canceled and when I sent an email seeking clarification on the status it went unanswered.
While the low price was attractive, the overly aggressive sales tactics and poor customer service more then ruin any savings you can get. Don't walk away, RUN AWAY from this company and find a more reputable company to do business with
I am with you, dont use this site. The worse customer support!
This just happened to me! these guys should be out of buisness...now idk what to do ? what should i do and what did you do?
fraud, real bad customer service
Ok, I ordered a panasonnic dmc kz28k digital camera from them, being atarcted because of the low price they were offering. There modulus operandy is same as all other fraud sites, I got a mail that "pls call to confirm your order". I did called, very nice (Since was first call), forced me to buy an extra battery/card, I got into the trap of buying extra battery. Order never came, called again and again, they just hung up on me or didnt pick it up or if they did asked to call complain dept.in short, no one was there to take my call because they were more interested in the money.
Luckily, I had made a mistake with the expiration date entry while buying so the credit company denied payment (Though strangely when I entered into there websites online payment, it went through).
So, I would say"pay a bit more but get peace of mind and dnt get cheated". These guys are fraud
Stay away from this place. Great price. Free shipping. It happened twice so its not occasionally.
1. I order camcorder . Then they wait two MONTHS to tell me they "oversold" the item that was listed as "available" on their website. I call them every week and they have ready stories like IT WAS SHIPPED TO YOU FROM OUR WAREHOUSE IN CALIFORNIA, or THE CAMERA COME BACK TO US BECAUSE YOU WASN'T AT HOME(funny when I request for tracking they start babbling), or WE ARE READY TO SEND THE CAMERA TO YOU(and again few days waiting to call them and finfd out in's not in stock).
After I cancel that order I have to call them two more times to get my money back which took them almost two weeks.
2 time, the item was "available" again, I paid extra for next day delivery. After one week cancel the order.
4. I order camera which suppose to came with memory card which cost $199, instead the send me cheap card for $74 After I call them some guy try to convince me that the one I get (transcent CF 20MB/S) is better and faster than SANDISC CF 90MB/S!. After long conversation(he was very rude) he agree to exchange the card for the one I should get. WELL GUESS WHAT! I get another Transcent but they send SD insted CF!
I call them again and I ask for manager. He was very understanding and agree that the Abesofmaine have huge mess and employees problem. After hat phone call I get what I should.
5 VERY VERY RUDE PEOPLE WHO KEEP CALL YOU TO CONFIRM THE ORDER AND TRY TO SELL YOU 3RD COMPANY ACCESSORIES.
Watch Out for the REVIEWS on Internet SELLERS ! Contact the BBB.org FIRST, ...THEN DECIDE ! I Was Totally Disappointed By a NYC Seller Called "PowersellerNYC.com" ! The 47" VIZIO TV was Not Only NON Functional Out of the Box, ...BUT Also Didnt Have any Serial # ON IT ! ...Went to BBB.org after the purchase & They Got an "F" Rating From A-F Score ! I eventually got a Full Refund after Much Anguish and Had to Wait 3 more weeks for the Credit Card Refund after waiting 3 1/2 weeks for the Disappointing Delivery!
In 2008, I purchased a 32" LCD Samsung TV and a 3 year extended warranty, which was $149. I specifically asked and was told that it extended 3 years beyond the expiration of the 1 year manufacturer's warranty. Recently the TV began having problems. When I checked on the warranty company, repairtech.com, they were out of business. I called Abes of Maine, and they could have cared less that there was no warranty available and made no offer for other arrangements despite my requests. I was informed that legally they weren't required to do anything and that the warranty only extended for 3 years beyond the purchase date, exactly the opposite of what the salesman had said. I would have never bought it if I knew that were the case. Essentially, that's paying $149 for 2 years of service after the manufacturer's warranty expires, which I was denied anyway. In talking with the customer service rep, it was mentioned that there was an extra charge for express shipping because I had a package deal even though the website advertised free shipping. Very cleverly, the receipt didn't break down the charges, just a lump sum, so it was easy to overlook charges I didn't request in my excitement of receiving the TV. Jason was the name of the person I talked to - you could tell that he would say anything and didn't care if the company satisfied their customers. Repeatedly, he challenged my memory when I made statements about the transaction. That's an obvious tactic utilized.
Well, first of all... if you did not give them a good credit card number THAT is the reason you did not get your product! (and THAT is not their fault.)
Second, They are in the business of selling product. There is NO way you were FORCED to buy anything. The poor guy on the line was just doing his job -- being a salesman.
I purchased a big screen tv. I did not buy the cables, warranty, extra packaging on a pallet (since I figured if the tv arrived with visible damage, I would not accept delivery from the freight company. If the tv did not work, I would be dealing with the manufacturer). The tv arrived promptly. The delivery guy brought the tv inside my house, helped me remove the packaging and inspect the tv. I could not have asked for more from Abe's. The problem YOU had was more a problem caused by you than by Abe's.

I had the same thing happen - I purchased a Garmin Edge 305 in 2008. This is a cyclometer/heart rate monitor/GPS item used while cycling. This year it started to turn off intermittently while I was riding and became unusable. I got mad and stuck it in a drawer. I finally found it again, after I found my original purchase invoice and I saw I had a three year warranty. Called today, they claimed the same thing as with you - repair place went out of business a few months ago and they can't do anything for me. What a flipping ripoff!
