I reported my car stolen on January 9th, 2022 to the appropriate authorities. However, it turned out that my fiance had taken the car without informing me. I immediately contacted the police to inform them that the car had been returned. Unfortunately, on January 12th, 2022, while my fiance was working at a client's home, someone took advantage of a momentary lapse and stole the car when he stepped out to retrieve some tools from our house. He promptly reported the incident to the South ***, who advised him to file a report with the *** department since the theft occurred in South Holland.
Approximately four hours later, *** recovered the car and had it towed to *** towing service. They informed us that they had entered the car into a system called leads, which is used to contact the owner. However, leads was down at 1:36 am, so we were not notified about the recovery of the vehicle by either the Dolton or *** police departments.
It was only on January 23rd, when my fiance called *** to pay the necessary fees, that we learned about the car being at their facility. Prior to that, we had no knowledge of the car being recovered. Unfortunately, I am unable to afford the fees as I have a very sickly daughter who suffers from FSG, a kidney disease, and Nephrotic Syndrome, another kidney disease. It is crucial for me to have my vehicle to transport her to her treatments and doctor's appointments. Additionally, I have several illnesses myself, including asthma, diabetes, and severe diabetic neuropathy, which causes chronic pain and nerve damage.
I provided the report number JF104321 when reporting the car stolen. However, the towing company refuses to release my vehicle, insisting that I must pay the fees even though the car was stolen. It is extremely frustrating that neither the towing company nor the authorities informed me about the recovery of my car, resulting in these unexpected charges. My vehicle is a ***. I am reaching out for assistance with this matter as I have nine children, four of whom have health issues. I rely on my vehicle to assist my elderly grandmother and other elderly family members by taking them to various places. Any help with resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
