Take 5 Oil Change - Oil change

I presented for an oil change on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. I arrived at 5:50 PM CST and there were no other customers. I asked how late they were open and was told 6 PM. (They are actually open until 7 PM CST!)

I asked if there was still time and was told “Yes, always.” As they proceeded to change the oil, one of the customer service reps was checking things under the hood and pulled an air filter out & showed it to me stating that I should replace it. I indicated I came only for an oil change and declined purchasing a new air filter. He then came around and checked a filter behind the glove compartment, which he also indicated needed replacing. I turned down the recommendation and again indicated I only wanted the oil change and had no intentions to pay over $100 at this visit.

This was my third visit to Take 5 and it was the first time I was pestered with replacement parts. That was one reason I returned to Take 5 because I wasn’t bothered with upselling at my two previous visits. Also, each time I’ve come for an oil change, my cost has gone up $20 & this is only for an oil change which I don’t understand.

I was asked to start my vehicle following the oil change, turned the key, and nothing happened. No lights came on & there was no sound, nothing. The power was out with everything. I told the customer service rep., the one who pulled the filters & put them back, that there was no lights or sound & the vehicle wouldn’t start! The other customer service rep, then saw that there was a cable connected to the battery that appeared loose or unattached. I was yet again told I should really get my battery cables looked at and replaced. The other rep. (who did the oil change) reattached the battery cable & the vehicle started right up.

Soon after I left, I noticed my car sounded much louder and I thought that perhaps I should have my exhaust pipe assessed, even though there were absolutely no signs or issues prior to this visit!? I made an appointment with the local garage I’ve worked with and learned that it was not an exhaust pipe issue, it was an air filter that was not replaced correctly. They noted an oil change sticker on my windshield and they questioned me about that visit. I explained the upselling with filters that were pulled & shown to me. I described having two filters pulled; an air filter under the hood, and a filter behind the glove compartment & I was informed both were in need of replacement.

The mechanic informed me the air filter under the hood was not replaced correctly and this was the reason for the loud sound, especially when accelerating. Because of this, I incurred a $76+ charge. I was also informed by the mechanic the filters did not replacing!

I would appreciate some kind of resolution for this inconvenience with my needing to make arrangements for the appointment for the time away that had to be cleared with my employer as well as making transportation arrangements to leave my car for service for half a day on top of incurring the $76+ expense.

At this point, I have no intentions of returning, and will not recommend your business to friends or family.

Desired outcome: I would appreciate acknowledgment of this totally uncalled for inconvenience in addition to a refund.
