Went to get the "Emerald Advance" as I have every year this time since they started it in Angleton, TX HRB office. Brought the usual paperwork, more actually because the company I worked for this year sold out to another hauling company from Indiana so the pay stubs ended in June with one & started in July w/ new company & takes both to see total YTD income, which shouldn't have to be shown to a "professional" tax preparer. I changed jobs 2 weeks ago & haven't drawn 1st check from new job yet (pre job safety classes, DOT/ non DOT drug screens & the like), so I was told the advance was denied this year due to no "continuing" income for 2016 to pay the advance back! An advance on taxes that I far over pay every year just so we get the same amount back as when there were kids at home. Advance that comes out of your refund. Tax preparer didn't speak adequate English, but the other 3 employees there were the same, not an American there today...except to get advances. So, called customer service, another foreigner, same language barrier, same answer...same at another customer service number. Finally found a corporate number in Kansas City, MO. Same answer, all decisions final, nothing they can do about it. I'm a truck driver with a very sick wife & needed to change jobs to not be on the road throughout the holidays this year, based on this advance, a vehicle sold & paychecks yet to come. When I found a HRB site with like posts and an associate answering questions, I posted, much like this one & got a little message saying I no longer had access to the site & sorry, you are now banned from this site...while typing an message to an HRB associate. Paperwork has no preparer name, client number. Only an application number. Very disappointed & believe I will do my own taxes now or at least keep it in the family. Very disappointed in their staffing decisions now & won't be back. Did I mention I have filed with HRB EVERY year since 1990? Have never owed money, have never been denied at the holidays. Hope for everyone else this is just a franchise thing & a Texas thing...that's how they do things here. Cheap work does not mean skilled work. Happy Thanksgiving HRB! All the technology & you can't get someone qualified to fix it...what a hoot!
