I had a heavy pottery vase (about 20 lbs) to send to california. I took to ups store 6837 and asked if they could pack and ship on october 4. They said yes and described how they would pack it. I was satisfied and reassured by their pack and ship guarantee and advertising for packing "anything", including items of art. I designated it as fragile and irreplaceable. Tracking number was 1z37x4v00328188017.
On arrival it was shattered and appeared shoddily packaged, nothing like they described to me. Ups picked it up for inspection. We requested return of the package as the pot possibly could have been glued back together and was of great sentimental value. Following inspection, ups discarded the package and vase remnants. I asked how they could throw away my property, damaged though it was. I was told this is how their contract with the ups store requires. Now ups is trying to deny the insurance claim because they say it was not securely packaged. I plan to contest that because it was packed by the store. I hope their "guarantee" holds up. The only resolution I see is for them to honor the insurance claim, but it would seem to me I am owed more for how this was handled. I would also like to be able to register a complaint regarding the store franchise owner.
