Ross Dress for Less - bad management and unethical behavior of management

About three weeks ago I turned in an application for employment at ROSS near my home at 3021 N. Rainbow Road in Las Vegas. I inquired as a follow up a couple times and finally got a message from Patrice, the manager (apparentl - I don't quite know her true title because she has lied a couple times to me already - even posing as someone else over the phone). She left a message that she wanted to schedule an interview and to call her back. After about 3 days of calling and leaving messages and talking to everyone in the store except her I finally reached her. She had no idea who I was or even calling me to schedule an interview and rushed me off the phone because she claimed she didnt know her work schedule for the next day and would call me right back once she knew to schedule the interview. After several hours I decided to call her back since I had not heard anything and she had left for the day. The next day I decided to just go down to the store to try and meet with her faceto face to get some sort of definate time frame for an interview. The associate called her and said she would be right out. A half hour later I decided to leave. I never saw her - but I figured it wasnt an actual "scheduled appointment so no harm and told the associate I was leaving but left a copy of my cover letter and resume in a folder seeing as how she couldnt remember even calling me to begin with she may not have my number handy. A couple hours later I got a call from her asking why I had left becuase she was going to give me a full interview on the spot. I simply said honestly"I feel like I have been chasing you for a week now and didnt want to bother her if she was that busy that she would leave me or anyone for tha matter sitting in the front of her store for a half hour waiting to see her. I told her I could come bac in and she agreed and so I made m way back to ROSS for the second time in the same day. Again I waited about 20 minutes and she came up to take me in back by telling me to sit down. I assumed she meant in the "break room" because she propped the door open to let me in and then said she would be in in a moment. So I waited - struck up a conversation with an associate getting ready to start her shift. Finally Patrice came in and started her "interview". More of an accusation process really - a lot of my resume is in the restaurant field and she wanted to know almost vehemently why I was applying for retail. I explained that I had just moved here and was going to start school to continue with my nursing degree and the late hours of working in restaurants would not be ideal. Then she seemed confused on the rational of that and attempted to deter me questioning my ability to work and go to school. I had to become a little direct and explain that I was a straight A student thus far and knew my own capabilities but thanked her for the inquiry. She almost reluctantly in her "way" I suppose told me I was hired if my background check cleared then I would get an e mail from her about the onboarding process. No time frames really - just more of a see you when I see you kind of situation really - was very odd and uncomfortable. After about a week I finally called and talked to someone else who explained the back ground check would take 2-3 weeks and not to worry. Literally 2-3 days later I got the e mail that my back ground check was completed and I printed it out just in case to take to Patrice since I had already started to gather that she was...….. flighty, to say the least, and wanted to use that to remind her to do my onboarding. A few days later I got the onboarding e mail. I completed the 18 page process within the 3 day minimum while calling Patrice very day trying to get a hold of her to let her know it was done on the third day - I was starting to panic because an e mail stated that I would start on the 4Th and to contact my manager for a schedule and time. On the third I called 5 times. I also sent an e mail to HR to let them know I was simply waiting on Patrice - I also completed my I-9 from a separate e mail I received. I had no other option but to be at the store at it's opening time on the 4th because still no word from Patrice and I didn't want to be a no call no show - LOL. When the store opened I bought a blue shirt and some better more appropriate shoes as well. Although it didn't matter because Patrice was not even working that day and left no instructions to anyone else about me so I just left a red folder with all my onboarding paperwork and I-9 paperwork and left. Here is the thing - every time I call and ask for this woman there is a story - she is on lunch break, can I call back in an hour. Can you call back in 15 minutes - she is busy? On and on and on and then find out that she was never there when I was calling in the first place because she was off! I have phone records showing how many times I called that store - I showed up to that store asking what was going on and copies of e mails I tried to send out. Today my friend called asking for the store manager and another woman or Patrice - I don't know at this point, and claimed to be the store manager and gave a completely different name - not Patrice! So then I called and asked for a manager and someone got on the phone and started to say that I didn't know what was going on in that store but I had been down there and called several time and was basically very confused and the woman cut me off and said all dramatic - "I am Patrice and I called you and left you message and you never got back to me"! The woman is quite literally unhinged or is simply a crazy person - to say the very, very least! I simply asked why she would give a different name and then not tell me her real name until half way through the call? And then explained that all I had been doing for 3-4 days IS call her, AND leave her messages, AND show up to the store to figure out what the hell is going on. Then the line was disconnected and that was that. I just got back from the store after returning the work clothes and shoes I had purchased to work there and all my personal information is in that red folder somewhere in that store which I am sure I will never see again. So in short - this store has an absolutely insane crazy woman working as a manager? I have never encountered that level of unprofessionalism and chaos and a flat out waste of my time and company time and resources ……….. ever! In my life! I honestly don't know if she is on drugs or just medically manic but something is going on there. I honestly don't care what it is though - this woman held me up with her games for near 3 weeks when I could have continued applying at other jobs that hire responsible, capable, and professional managers to run there stores and hire people. Now I am back at square one and am seriously considering getting a lawyer on this. I have never been treated so rudely and abusively, really in all my life. It is hard to even fathom or wrap the brain around but I can't make this stuff up. She needs to be fired and possibly committed. Just saying. However - I still shop at ROSS - as I like the company and the prices so my loyalty there is untarnished - just won't go to that store for fear this crazy manager might try to skin me and wear my skin as an outfit the next day - Koo Koo!
