T.J. Maxx - Store clerk misrepresented credit card application

I was at the St. Peters, MO location with my daughter Saturday, July 31st. When I went to check out, the clerk at the jewelry counter asked if I wanted a rewards card, I would get 10% off. I said sure. I have rewards cards at Wagreens, Kohl's, etc and save money and earn things, so why not. She said all she needed was my driver's license. Then when she was done, she said she had one more question, but they don't see the answer and handed me the key pad. It was asking my social, so I started typing it in and then I said, wait, why would you need my social for a reward card, this sounds like a credit card and she said no. It's a reward card and I said I have reward cards and I didn't provide my social for them. This sounds like a credit card and she said it can be used either way. SHEISTY. I handed her back the key pad and said, no way, I don't need more credit cards. I called the manager and complained the next day when I saw a hard inquiry on my credit report and she said she would "talk to her". Today I noticed I have a new account on my credit report, so I called, canceled it and they are doing a fraud investigation. I am freaking out because I said I wanted the hard inquiry removed and she said since I filled out the application (which I never saw an application, I handed over my driver's license) they had to investigate. This is a huge deal. It was misrepresented AND the clerk had to have hit ok and completed the process, but I did not hit ok on the key pad and said very clearly twice that I do not want a credit card. The fact that I am having to go through all this to get this removed from my credit report and cancel the card is unreal, considering I was CLEAR that I didn't want a credit card the second I figured out that was what she was doing. My 23 year old daughter was with me and she's blown away that this wasn't taken way more seriously when I called the manager, like it's not that big a deal you have a clerk telling people it's not a credit card, then finally admitting it is and PROCESSING after the customer says NO.
