These reps and techs use extremely powerful tools of psychological persuasion, and they have all become obvious now that all of the information is accessible to me. Techs staying in someone's home for hours and hours (my appointment was over 3 hours long on our only day off) manipulating and discussing numbers so as to confuse and exhaust the client, telling customers they have a 3 day period to cancel but only make their appointments late in the evenings on Fridays or early in mornings on Saturdays and requiring a certified letter to be mailed to cancel, sending young appointment guys to lure you into false security with their ignorance "because I'm just the appointment guy," using your own power bills to lie about how much YOU could be saving, etc. are all unethical practices this company uses. The "tech" (high pressure salesman) told us that 1. the system we were paying for would be enough to power our entire home and possibly receive credits from our power company for extra banked kWh 2. that we would be able to terminate our contract anytime after the 3 day period (with a fee, of course) 3. that all of our contracts and proposal paperwork would be available to view anytime through a customer portal 4. the solar panels would add value to our property 5. that we would receive up to $12k in tax credits. All of these claims were fraudulent. We are now paying for our nearly-unchanged power bills as well as the loan for the panels.
All of this came about because we were supposed to meet with another "tech" to "discuss ways to manage our energy usage" today at 9am, moving other meetings around to accommodate for the appointment. My husband and I were eager to discuss our discrepancies with high power bills over the past 3 months, so we were irritated when our tech was still not at our home over 20 minutes past our appointment time. We finally received a call from a Wyatt that "it would be another 15 minutes," at 9:25, and so we cancelled the appointment and contacted customer service about our power bills not being any lower. We were informed that our contract was "at a 46% cap," which was a number or phrase neither of us had ever heard or read in our paperwork. We then each made multiple calls to Top Tier to request copies of our proposals and contracts, and were given excuse after excuse, even that "we must have them blocked on Gmail, because we can't seem to get our emails to send?" Finally, we reviewed our e-documents. Although my husband and I both read through the entire proposal(s) and contract multiple times, everything we discussed seemed legitimate, and the physical paperwork I signed checked out, the "e-paperwork" emailed to me looked different. Pages of numbers, pictures, and percentages had been added in-between the pages with our signatures, including an entire full-color page of charts showing "at 46%" we had never seen or had been discussed, and ultimately we discovered we had been sold a unit that would never cover more than 46% of our power needs. More calls to our power company, Top Tier, and Sunlight Financial confirmed that we are locked into a contract that cannot be terminated without detrimental impact to my credit. We have filed complaints with the BBB, and were shocked to see so many good ratings. This company has such a good rating with the BBB and other places because they pay employees to leave 5 star reviews and lure potential leads with gift cards for 5 star ratings (I'm sure they actually just promise to pay, and then don't.) If you look, most of the 5 star reviews are made on the same days or within a day or two of each other (obviously mass hire or canvassing dates). Everything about this company is slimy, and I am tempted to reach out to local news outlets. I would be content with just a termination of contract and the removal of the panels as stated in my complaint with the BBB, but anyone considering this company: DO NOT.
Desired outcome: I would appreciate an appropriate response from Top Tier, the termination of my contract within the parameters signed, and the solar panels removed from my home
