Thomas Eye Group I had cataract surgery and got a bunch of "unexpected" bills

I had cataract surgery and got a bunch of "unexpected" bills. When I called, they told me not to pay until it's the final one. They're a mess. They can't even tell me the costs. Now I need a Yag laser and I've already gotten bills and estimates that are twice as much as the first estimate. And I haven't even started yet. It really feels like a scam. I'm sorry because I actually like Dr. Blasberg.

It's really hard to schedule appointments at the LIlburn office, and when you do manage to get one, you'll end up waiting forever in a cramped and poorly lit area. I eventually gave up after waiting for over an hour and just left. If you do have the patience to wait, you might eventually get to see the doctor, but it's not worth it if you have to spend so much time in that gloomy place. The front desk staff is truly awful. If you value your time, I suggest going somewhere else.

Thomas Eye Group BEWARE!

BEWARE! Fraud eye clinic. I went to Thomas Eye Group, PC in *** and they're doing insurance fraud. I went to *** for my daughter's regular checkup. I have VSP insurance. But they processed the *** through my health care insurance and told me to pay the full amount towards the deductible. When I called and asked them, they said the doctor used the wrong code, a Medical examination, which doesn't go through VSP, and added incorrect medical conditions to the visit. I used to go to *** Care for the same checkup and it always went through VSP. This is a cheating and fraud hospital, so be careful not to visit such fraudulent doctors and clinics.

Thomas Eye Group As a working dad, my wife took our daughter and other kids to visit Thomas Eye Group

As a working dad, my wife took our daughter and other kids to visit Thomas Eye Group. They didn't inform her about any specific COVID-related measures. Today, when she went for her appointment, they told her that our newborn and 3-year-old couldn't enter the building. As a dad, it's really frustrating and annoying that my wife had to drive 15 miles with our 3 kids to see an eye specialist, only to be told something ridiculous. My own dad runs a medical practice on the other side of the highway and he always accommodates every patient, even during these tough times. It seems like patient care is an afterthought for them, and they prioritize running their business with a COVID excuse.

Thomas Eye Group Thomas Eye Group is not being honest with their customers and I believe they are committing insurance fraud!

Thomas Eye Group is not being honest with their customers and I believe they are committing insurance fraud! On May 18, I called to make an appointment for my annual eye exam, which is supposed to be covered by my insurance and includes contacts or glasses. I clearly explained this to the person scheduling the appointment, and they informed me that the only available doctor was an hour away. Despite this inconvenience, I agreed to the appointment after confirming that my insurance was accepted.

I arrived at 9am on May 22, for my 9:15 appointment. However, I ended up waiting for three hours before the doctor finally came into the room. The doctor spent less than 10 minutes with me and informed me that during my next visit, he would like to dilate my eyes and have another doctor handle my contact fitting. I was told that due to Covid, this would require a separate appointment.

When I went to check out, I was shocked to find out that my health insurance had been charged instead of my VSP insurance. I questioned the staff about this and the office manager assured me that my VSP insurance would be charged during my contact fitting. However, on May 26, when I received a call to schedule my contact appointment, I was told that the doctor does not accept insurance and I would have to pay for the services out of pocket!

At this point, Thomas Eye Group had not provided any services to me, yet they had falsely charged both my insurance and me for a co-pay. I once again spoke with the office manager, who was unable to give me a clear explanation. The website does not disclose that some doctors do not accept insurance, nor did the staff inform me of this. I demand a refund of my co-pay and for my medical insurance to not be billed, as services were not provided.

It is clear to me that this company is engaging in insurance fraud by not charging customers correctly for their visits.

Thomas Eye Group I've been going to Thomas Eye Group for a few years now (my original doctor was Dr

I've been going to Thomas Eye Group for a few years now (my original doctor was Dr. *** until he retired). Lately, I've noticed that the practice has become less personal and I feel like I'm just being rushed through the process. My most recent visit confirmed this.

When I went online to make an appointment, I was surprised to see that the doctor I had been seeing for the past few years wasn't listed as an option. In fact, even though there are multiple optometrists in the practice, I was only given the choice of one doctor, despite having flexible dates. This is unacceptable (and where was my usual doctor?)!

After entering all my insurance and personal information online, I arrived for my appointment and once again had to input my insurance information on a kiosk before being checked in. It felt redundant and unnecessary.

The appointment itself was pretty straightforward, although I did feel like the doctor was rushing through it. After the appointment, I was sent to the contact lens area for a fitting. They told me that they needed to order the lenses I needed and that they would contact me for an appointment. Okay, so the next time I heard from them was a message telling me when the appointment would be, without even asking if it worked for me. I had a conflict with the date and immediately called the office to let them know. However, I was directed to an answering machine and left a message. I never received a call back, and then the day before THEIR chosen date, I was reminded of my conflicting appointment! Once again, I quickly replied to the text message, expressing my conflict. But, as usual, I didn't hear anything back. After missing the appointment they scheduled without my input, I received a message saying that I had missed my appointment! I responded again, this time with some frustration. Finally, I received a call and we mutually agreed on a new appointment, which I attended.

All of these experiences have made me feel like the practice prioritizes their own convenience over the patient's. And to top it off, I received an email saying that my old doctor had moved to a different location.

Thomas Eye Group I'm really mad, I went to this place for a doctor's appointment on September 24th

I'm really mad, I went to this place for a doctor's appointment on September 24th. The doctor said I needed glasses. So, I went to the vision center on September 24th and this lady helped me with the glasses. I chose a pair and she measured my eyes and wrote down all my info on a sticky note. She said someone would call me, but no one did. I called the office many times and they kept saying they would call me back. Finally, after a whole month, I was able to talk to someone and pay for the glasses. I told them they had been sitting on the glasses for a month and asked for them to be rushed. They said they would rush it. A week later, I called again and asked for the glasses information to be emailed to me because my employer would reimburse me. I gave the lady my work email and we talked for over 30 minutes about what I needed and what the insurance covers. But she never sent me the information. This company has bad service again. I haven't received the detailed bill I asked for and my company hasn't reimbursed me because I never got the bill. It was around mid-November when I went to the location and the lady was on lunch break. I had to come back at 2 pm, but I couldn't because I had to go back to work. I told them I was on my break and couldn't come back. It's now December 25th and I still haven't gotten my glasses. And now they won't refund my money. This is not okay. I want my money back for something I didn't get. On December 25th, I'm asking for a refund of $249.80. I'm so upset that they won't refund my money and I still don't have the glasses I bought. I don't want to do business with them anymore and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. If I have to, I'll take them to court. These people won't refund me for glasses I ordered and haven't received yet.

Thomas Eye Group I had a service on 2/18/22 and paid a $40 copay

I had a service on 2/18/22 and paid a $40 copay. The money was taken from my bank account on 2/22/2022. Later, I got a letter in the mail saying I still owed $55. I called the office and they told me that I only had a $15 balance. I paid it over the phone and the money was taken from my bank account on 4/19/2022. But then, on May 19, 2022, they sent me to collections for the $55 that I had already paid them!

Thomas Eye Group On 7/7/2022, I went for my regular eye check-up and was informed about a testing procedure that could be done in two different ways, one covered

On 7/7/2022, I went for my regular eye check-up and was informed about a testing procedure that could be done in two different ways, one covered by insurance and the other not. I told the assistant that I preferred the insurance-covered option. However, the doctor didn't ask or mention anything before proceeding with the non-covered procedure. I paid my copayment assuming that the procedure was done according to the insurance coverage.

A few days later, I received a bill for the test that wasn't covered by insurance. When I questioned the bill, I was informed that I had declined the insurance-covered test. The doctor performed the procedure using the option I didn't choose and claimed it was my decision. I can't believe this happened at a doctor's office.

Thomas Eye Group Since the beginning, I've always requested afternoon appointments at the Sandy Springs location 'cause I finish work at 2 pm

Since the beginning, I've always requested afternoon appointments at the Sandy Springs location 'cause I finish work at 2 pm. But both times I had surgery, they changed my appointment time without asking me to early morning and early afternoon, which caused me and my ride a ton of unnecessary stress. Before they let you have surgery, you gotta pay your bill in full. Not only did they charge my insurance for the whole surgery, but today they had the audacity to ask me for more money. When I told the receptionist I already paid, she checked and saw that I did pay in full, but the payment "wasn't applied to the account." Anything other than having a zero balance is totally unacceptable! If I even get a text about owing money, I'm gonna contact a lawyer and sue them.

Thomas Eye Group On June 4, my wife and I had our regular eye exam at Thomas Eye Group, PC

On June 4, my wife and I had our regular eye exam at Thomas Eye Group, PC. During the visit, we were informed about a new testing procedure that our insurance covered. I asked a specific question to clarify if it was truly covered 100%, as I had experienced unexpected bills in the past. The response I received was that we were indeed covered completely. With that assurance, I agreed to proceed.

However, it has been three weeks since our visit, and I have now received two separate bills for each test. This has left me feeling extremely angry. It seems like either they are intentionally trying to take advantage of people or they lack the necessary competence to handle insurance matters correctly. As a result, I no longer have confidence in their ability to care for my family's eye health. I expect a higher level of service and attention, especially considering the situation with the billing. It is truly frustrating that I have to invest my time in dealing with this matter.

Thomas Eye Group No one ever calls me back regarding how my bill was submitted to my insurance company

No one ever calls me back regarding how my bill was submitted to my insurance company. I've been calling since February about this. I also emailed on January 21, when I had a Botox Injection for blepharspamns. They told me it would be cheaper to pay outright instead of going through my insurance because they had a sale on Botox. It cost me $195.00, but since then, I've been trying to get them to submit the procedure and the Botox to my insurance. I need the individual items to be coded and broken down so that I can possibly get money back from the Botox savings program. I've called numerous times each month and spoke to Ilene Reeves, Courtney, and other people who say they'll help me, but no one ever calls me back! Botox savings program needs the j codes and a procedure code, which apparently they don't seem to know how to do. Why can't anyone call me?

Thomas Eye Group I'm having a problem with Thomas Eye Group, PC

I'm having a problem with Thomas Eye Group, PC. They are billing me for something I never bought or got. On 5/28/10, I had an eye appointment and when I left, I talked to the person at the checkout to pay my co-pay for that visit and the previous one. While I was there, I asked about an eye mask that the doctor suggested. She showed it to me and said I should buy it online because it would be $20 cheaper. So, I followed her advice and bought it from the FSA store after my appointment. But they still charged me for the mask and keep sending me bills for it. I've told them this story many times and tried to explain that it doesn't make sense for me to pay the co-pay but not pay for the mask at the same time. I even asked them to check the security footage to prove that I didn't leave with anything. I've asked to talk to a manager four times but haven't gotten a call back. But they keep sending me a bill for this $30 mask that I didn't buy. They are billing me incorrectly and I want them to fix this problem right away.

Thomas Eye Group This company is part of a group that seems to make appointments like a manufacturing line

This company is part of a group that seems to make appointments like a manufacturing line. I was directed to this doctor. When I expressed concerns about my eyes, he continued to tell me that they were alright and his area of specialty was surgery. When I got the billing, my insurance did not pay. I talked with the *** and was told that the account would be sent to another section because there had been some billing issues with *** Blue Shield. I was told I would get a call for an update. Less than 2 weeks later, I got a collections notice. No return call with an update. I spoke with the *** this morning and was told they have to send an email to see who sent the account to Collections. I had only gotten 1 bill from this company. From the time the Dr saw me, he was rude, nonchalant, and obviously I had the wrong referral from their group based on my eye care needs. Seems he is only involved in surgery of eyelids. He never even looked in my eyes! RUN, too many doctors are wanting to collect and no longer a part of medical CARE. I have had the same insurance for over 35 years, and a claim being rejected because of a doctor's coding and then a collection is unacceptable. I bet they do this to a lot of patients. THIS IS WRONG!

Thomas Eye Group I had an appointment in August which was billed wrong

I had an appointment in August which was billed wrong. I have tried to have the company fix it with the insurance company many times. The date of service was 8/31, and I always make sure to tell the person at the desk this is my diabetic annual exam; I come in every year. After my appointment, before October 1st, I called to check if the coding was correct, but I was told that my account didn't have a balance because the insurance company hadn't been billed yet. I told the person to let me know. I hung up and didn't think about it until I got a bill in the mail. I called the insurance company and asked why they hadn't paid for my eye exam, saying that it's the same exam I get every year. They said it was because of the coding on the visit that they didn't pay for it. On 11/17, I called Thomas Eye Group again to ask about the coding and if it could be fixed. I was told that it had been coded as medical, not routine, and they would send a message to the doctor to see if he would approve it being recoded. Over the next month, I called back on 12/1, 12/3, 12/7, and 12/11, just to give a few dates, and was told that there were no notes in my file and no response. No one ever called or contacted me to address the issue or talk to me about if it was going to be recoded. On 12/7, I finally got to talk to someone at the physical location who was going to try to help and see if it was possible. Finally, after 12/11, I left a message for a follow-up call, waiting for a response back. That day, I also went to the facility to talk to the last contact. She said she was still trying to see, but it probably wouldn't be recoded and suggested I start a payment plan. I had learned from talking to all the billing operators and her that it was past 90 days anyway. After leaving the office, I called the insurance company again and asked. They told me that the company has a one-year limit for fixing claims. So, I'm filing this complaint.

Thomas Eye Group I was referred to them by my eye doctor for cataract surgery

I was referred to them by my eye doctor for cataract surgery. They charged me $344 for the initial exam. Now they are sending me a bill. I went to them for cataract surgery and they required a new patient eye exam and refractive state determination, which I paid $344 for. They told me the cost of the surgery with a multi-focal lens was $3500 per eye. I couldn't schedule at that time because I needed to see when my wife could drive me. I called back the next day and left a message with the surgical coordinator. Several days went by and I never got a return call. I called back and found out that the woman I spoke with was no longer there. I worked with the woman taking over to schedule the surgery. There were several miscommunications with the facility where the surgery was going to be performed. That got resolved because I am self-pay and they needed payment before the procedure. At this time, I was informed that there were an additional $3000 in fees above the $3500 that I was not informed of. I asked for an explanation/clarification. She said she would look into it and get back to me. I never heard back. I got a second opinion from Georgia Eye Partners. They told me that as a Hipnation member, the self-pay cost would be $4900 per eye. I had asked *** if they could do this under general anesthesia as my deductible on my indemnity policy would be waived. They said yes. I asked the Dr. at Georgia the same question. He categorically refused. He said not only could the procedure not properly be done under general anesthesia, but it would also constitute insurance fraud. At this point, I was unwilling to risk my eyesight with ***. I called them and told them I was going with another provider due to their unprofessionalism, disorganization, and failure to fully disclose costs. I also requested that they refund the cost of the initial exam. I was told they would have to check into that. I never got a response. I did receive a call to collect the bill. At that time, I informed the person that the bill had been paid on the day of the visit by credit card and gave them a receipt number. I am still getting bills from them. One came today generated 1/15 showing 120+ days past due. This occurred June.
