On July 5th 2026 we ordered a wheelchair for our disabled daughter. The very first call to order we stated that we needed a chair with attendee brakes. We clearly told them that we mean brakes, not attendee locks. It had to have a way to slow down the chair, by the attendee, on slops as it was being pushed. We made that clear and if it was not possible we did not want to order. We were told it could be done and a Helio A6 chair was suggested by Spinlife. After we went over the customizations like size and accessories we agreed to the order. We addressed many times through calls that if we cannot get attendee brakes, not locks, we did not want the wheelchair. We pointed out many times that our request was not any kind of locking system but a means to slow the chair on downhill slops by the attendee and we were told the chair would have them.
Another thing we asked for was the hand rims with a thumb guard so our disabled daughter would not get her fingers caught.
The chair was shipped Aug 17 and when it arrived we noticed it did not have either the thumb guards on the hand rims and there were no attendee brakes. There were a few other mistakes or changed parts but it was nothing as important as the brakes.
We called and was informed it was a mistake about the thumb guards and they would send them right out to us, which they did on Sept 7, which did not get to us until Sept 14th. Upon arrival we found they only sent a thumb guard for one side.
So for two months, and over 4 thousand dollars later, our daughter still does not have a working wheelchair because we do not have the other thumb guard or the brake system we specifically ordered, and paid for.
Update for October, over three months from order. One thumb guard was sent. One, all wheelchairs have two push rims. Also a braking system was sent. Some aftermarket set that required totally different wheels to work and extended the wheels out three inches. Cheap, extremely thin and slick tires (without the foam insert we paid extra for). The tires were totally different from what we ordered, and paid extra for, and now cannot use. What they sent squeak just rolling straight and make all kind of noise if you turn.
Who would want slick court tires for a child’s wheelchair to be pushed around on many different surfaces?
We also asked about the hand levers to apply braking to the wheels that did not fit the push handles on the wheelchair. We got an email that that just said take a knife or something to the wheelchair and cut off plastic or whatever until they fit. Yeah, we have that email, and others, to show how they respect customers 4k purchase.
Also the aftermarket parts moved the wheels out so far it made the locks on the chair no longer touch the wheels. Even with adjustment of the locks in every way possible they still will not touch and secure the chair.
Recommendation: Stay clear of them
Do not let them keep tinkering. You have emails admitting mistakes and a chair that still does not work after three months. Send one written demand to SpinLife: full refund or a correctly built replacement with attendee brakes, both thumb guards, foam inserts, and working locks, within 14 days. Attach every email and photo. Copy Motion Composites directly, since SpinLife is just the dealer and the manufacturer should see what their Helio A6 is being sold with. If the deadline passes, dispute the full $4,000 with your card issuer as goods not as described. That email telling you to cut the chair with a knife is your best exhibit. Keep it and lead with it.
