I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Southwest Gas customer service on July 2, 2026, was disappointing.
I received a call regarding a past-due balance, even though I had already scheduled a payment online. I called simply to verify whether my scheduled payment would prevent a service interruption or whether I needed to make a payment sooner.
I understand that companies must verify customer identities, and I appreciate the need for security. However, despite providing my name, address, date of birth, phone number, explaining that I had just received their call, and confirming that I had already scheduled a payment, the representative repeatedly responded with, "I can't," because I couldn't answer one additional verification question. There was no effort to explain alternative ways to verify my identity or offer any general guidance. The interaction felt dismissive and lacked empathy.
Because I couldn't get a simple answer, I ended the call and handled everything online myself. I canceled my original payment and submitted a new payment for the same day. I even received a transaction ID confirming the payment had been submitted. When I logged back in a short time later, that payment had completely disappeared from my account, despite having a confirmation number. Concerned that my service might still be disconnected, I had to submit a second payment. I have screenshots and transaction IDs documenting the issue.
The most frustrating part wasn't the company's security procedures—it was the lack of customer service. Policies are important, but so are professionalism, empathy, and a willingness to help customers who are genuinely trying to resolve their accounts.
I hope Southwest Gas reviews both the customer service interaction and the payment issue. Customers deserve to feel heard and treated with respect, especially when they're making every effort to pay their bills and avoid service interruptions.
Recommendation: Know the month and year you moved into your house, if not...they wont help!
