DO NOT BUY FROM SMITH DOUGLAS - THEY WILL SELL YOU A HOME WITH MOLD AND AND WONT THING TWICE ABOUT IT.
Our experience with Smith Douglas Homes was not just disappointing -- it was devastating. We went under contract on what we hoped would be our family's first home. We spent five months watching it come to life, brick by brick, with excitement and anticipation. This wasn't just a property to us -- it was meant to be our safe place to raise our toddler daughter.
During the pre-drywall inspection, our licensed inspector found visible mold inside the framing of the home. We raised the issue immediately. Smith Douglas claimed they remediated it -- but refused to allow us to confirm this through another mold inspection. We simply asked for a follow-up test to ensure the mold was actually gone. That's a basic expectation, especially when the health of a young child is involved.
Mold is a serious health hazard. It can trigger asthma, allergic reactions, and long-term respiratory illness -- especially in children and vulnerable family members. For a builder to block a second mold inspection and refuse transparency is not only irresponsible -- it's unethical.
But what happened next is even more telling. After we continued to ask for proof that the remediation was successful, SMITH DOUGLAS terminated our contract. No resolution. No compromise. They cut us out completely -- as if we were the problem for wanting a healthy home.
After five months of emotional investment, planning, and dreaming about our daughter growing up in that home, we were left with nothing. No home. No trust in this company. Just heartbreak and deep concern for any other family who may walk into this exact home in Sanders Park.
Smith Douglas Homes knowingly denied us peace of mind, then pulled the plug when we demanded accountability. That's not a builder you can trust -- it's a business prioritizing speed and sales over safety and ethics.
Recommendation: If you're a family -- especially with young children -- please think twice before trusting Smith Douglas with your home.
