This is the story of our purchase of a GE washer dryer from Home Depot. The purchase was made on January 17, 2026 and deliver January 22, 2026. This set replaced an LG washer and dryer. The washer was rusted out however the dryer was fully functional. We paid additional expenses to have it delivered as well as professionally set up. My wife used the washer and dryer and it seemed that the dryer would not cut off on a timed cycle and a couple of times ran all night. It did not seem to dry the clothes as it should and took much longer and often times clothes had to hang either outside or in the house to finish drying. Hearing the concerns of my wife, I went through the booklet to troubleshoot and ensure that there was not some reason as to why it was not working. I checked the vent and the tubing as well as the lint trap and all seem to be clear and functioning. I turned on the dryer and it did seem to put out some heat through the vent. We tried to contact Home Depot several times, but each time I called they transferred me from one person to another, and I never reached the person I was supposed to get that might be able to help me. Finally, in our frustration we went to Home Depot and confronted the manager Sean. He informed us that there was nothing that he could do as we had ordered the appliances online. Once things were delivered and that we would have to call the delivery service. Ultimately, we did reach the representative from Home Depot that was supposed to help locally Teresa but she informed me that there's nothing that she could do. She gave me the numbers for GE which I called. I called GE and they refused to take back the appliances and said that they would send repairman out and if he reported to them that the machine was unrepairable, they would be replaced. The repairman came out to look at the dryer and found that almost all of the components in the dryer needed to be replaced. He would be out in the next week or two to repair the dryer. In the meantime, we continued to use the dryer as we had no other way to do our laundry. The repairman came out, he repaired what he knew needed to be replaced, but then upon checking the dryer found that the heating element had burned out and that he would have to be back and replace that. We again contacted GE and they told us that they would continue to work on repair and that unless it was deemed unrepairable, nothing else could be done. In my frustration, I contacted the home office of Home Depot and they told me that any appliance after 48 hours could not be returned. 48 hours is not enough time to evaluate an appliance to see if it will be functional or not a public should be allowed more time to evaluate the functionality of an appliance, and if it does not suit their needs should be returnable. If 48 hrs is the window of returns then they should make that very clear to the customer In addition if there are overwhelming.repairs the appliance should be returnable regardless. It seems to me that GE is going to spend any amount of money to repair this item instead of taking it back. Since that time the dryer has been repaired again and it still does not do an adequate job of drying clothes. We are using the highest setting and it is taking two and three times longer to dry anything and even then it is not completely dry. We are not overloading the dryer and we are doing no more than what we expected out of our previous dryer which actually worked before they took it away. Now I am confronted with calling Repairman again to try to have more work done on a appliance, which should've been new and functional from the very start. I also have concerns about the washer, which does not seem to have a cycle option to use hot water despite the options on the controls. We have been more than patient with GE and Home Depot and yet we still do not have a functional washer dryer.
Recommendation: Be sure of return policy and time limits. Consider paying a little more from a local store that is more worried about customer service and their reputation
