Select Home Warranty Unauthorized credit card charge

I called to cancel my service witin the 30 days after i first started the service and was told that i would recive back the initial $95. The person i spoke with never submitted my cancellation, 5 days later an attempt to take out the monthly fee was denied due to insuffient funds. I called select the next day to find out why there was asn attempt because i cancelled a week ago. Person said no problem he will take care of the account and close. I received a call on monday, and tuesday from select and i asked why do you keep calling when i cancelled a week ago, they sent an email with my on 2/8/22nstating my account was closed. Not once during all the phone conversations was i told i would be charged. Select took out $132.30 from my account and when i called to dispute the male was nasty and would not listen to me stating i when i called, he only referred to the date of the email.

Desired outcome: I WANT THE $132.30 THEY TOOK OUT OF MY ACCOUNT.

Select Home Warranty Cancelation of policy

I was a Select Home Warranty Company customer until last year. I need your assistance with resolving matters related to my request to cancel the contract.

After a series of service disappointments, I requested cancellation of my policy (in writing October 5, 2021). I was given a quote of the amount of the refund that did not match my calculation; and was not consistent with Clause 13.2 of the contract. Several times I requested a written break down of how the refund was being calculated. To date, I have not gotten a response to my requests.

In early December 2021 I received a check with the incorrect refund amount. After several additional oral and written requests for details about the calculation of the refund, I requested (in writing) arbitration of this matter (December 31, 2021). I have not received a response to that request as well.

By my calculation the refund check should be $337.48. I am prepared to share my calculations and discuss this matter to reach resolution. This tiny check should not have required four months to resolve. Please let me know how you will proceed with this matter and what else you need from me.

Desired outcome: I would like to receive a replacement check of $337.48 as the correct refund payment due.

Select Home Warranty Dryer

I had a repairman service my dryer. He said he would send his finding to Select. I received a call from Select saying they are allowing me to get a new dryer. I was fine with this until I was told that I would only receive $175 for a new dryer. My old dryer was $800 and top-of-the-line. Where can I get a comparable dryer for $175? After 2 days of trying to talk to a supervisor, I gave up and decided to just take the $175 and cancel Select HW. I was told that I can only receive the money after I purchase a new dryer and send in the receipt. At this point I am ready to call my lawyer because that wasn't what I was told by the salesperson when I first signed up. I was told that any appliance will be repaired, or I could get a comparable one. Select kept telling me that code so and so says this... BS. So finally, I was to the point where I just wanted to cancel Select. I was transferred to a representative to cancel but was told I would be charged a $75 cancelation fee. Complete [censored]!

Desired outcome: I would like to cancel me warranty and receive a FULL refund for the 8 months I have been with Select. I am going to every social media outlet with this story.

Select Home Warranty Home Warranty Scam Company

About a year ago, my home warranty was about to expire. After talking with Select Home Warranty, I was convinced they had a good product and by purchasing a 5 year contract, my yearly cost would be considerably less. Plus they would add an additional year on for free. I paid $2, 600 for this warranty. They said I could cancel it at anytime for a full refund on the portion not used. They said it would be only $472 if I decided to cancel after the first year. That was the first lie. The first attempt to use this warranty was on my AC unit. It was 110 degees outside and I needed it fixed immediately. They could not find a company to service my unit. I ended up fixing it myself. The next time was a pool filter. Again no company to service it. They said they would reimburse me, if I found someone to fix it. That was a lie. Then my pool pump went out. Again they could not find anyone to fix it. After a couple of months and threatening to cancel, they found someone to look at it. The company said it needed to replace the pump. The company authorized $400 of a$2, 200 bill. When I called, they said well that is the policy. Even though they told me when I got the coverage, it would be covered 100%. That was a lie. So I decided to cancel my contract. It didn't cost me the $472 dollars, they mentioned. It cost me $700. They also wanted to take the $400 they authorized. But they backed off that after I told them, I was not going to get my pump fixed. This company is very unethical and should be put out of business.

Desired outcome: Make sure I get my refund and be a part of a class action lawsuit.

Select Home Warranty Trying to cancel

I called to cancel my subscription because I was laid off and also because I was denied 3 claims request. These people are robbers. They told me I had to pay $75 to cancel. Wow, just list my job and they want $75. Now what. I have asked them over and over to send me the contract. Never sent. This company has a horrible reputation, I have paid then well over $800 and they denied 3 claims. I finally gave up and decided to cancel now they want $75 to cancel.

Desired outcome: I want my account cancelled ASAP

Select Home Warranty Worst, unethical and unfair business practice ever

I signed up for the warranty for 3 years. Initially, I wanted to sign up for 1 year, and then the salesman convinced me to buy for 3 years suggesting I can cancel it anytime without a penalty which was a lie.

Two months later, I had two plumbing issues show up. I had to pay 120 for the single visit of the inspector. Although the total cost quoted was over 1200, they approved only 355 dollars (after calling them several times) and I had to pay the rest out of pocket. Then when I canceled the policy, they charged the cancellation fee 75 + plus the service fee for the 4 months I had the policy for and also deducted the 355 dollar check they gave me! So I basically wasted over 600 dollars for nothing. This does not count for the unpleasant phone calls I had with their agents! The worst, unfair practice I have ever seen. If they take money from people like this, God won't do good to them.

I just had the same problem with this company. They talked my into a 5 year contract saying that it would be $472 per year. But I could cancel it without a penalty, if I decided to do so after a year. I would only be charged the $472 and the rest would be refunded. Yesterday I called a cancelled my coverage because they were only going to pay $400 on a $2,200 pool pump. They ended up taking almost $700 off because they are liars and crooks. WOULD NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. By the way, I had three different issues and at no time did they pay for the repairs. Nor could they find me a contractor to look at my issues.

Select Home Warranty Reimbursement claim denied based on lies and deceptive practices

SHW plumber came out to clear a sewer backup, his line broke in the process and he could not complete the job. SHW kept saying they needed to "review" information before sending a different plumber. After 4 days of sewage in my basement, I called a plumber on my own. They were able to successfully clear the line and charged me $462.50. I requested reimbursement and SHW denied it saying the company used a hy-dro method to do it so it was not covered. I sent in paperwork stating it was cabled and they then changed the denial to main line work. I advised to refer to the paperwork again which stated it was in the home…no answer, ever, didn't even address the proof. I would like my reimbursement for the covered work.

Desired outcome: Reimbursement of the $462.50

Select Home Warranty Bosch Oven

My door on the oven would not open, this was 11/26/21, it was locked into cleaning mode. I called select home warranty and filed a claim, Told them the door was locked and would to open, They denied the claim, after 3 call to them, I was told by a supervisor that they would send out a technician to evaluate the oven, Next day I got a call saying that they denied the claim and was not sending out a technician that date was 12/3/21. I called the Bosch repair center myself and they came and determined it was a circuit board gone bad This was on 12/6/21. They fixed the oven within two days, $381.06 total repair, I sent the receipt to Select Home warranty and did not receive any answer, I called them on 12/26/21. Was told I would have to wait 30 days before filing a new claim finally they found the receipt and said it would be transferred to the billing department and I would receive an answer within 24 hours, I got an email with 2 hours stating that my claim was denied because they did not authorize a service repair technician to look at the oven, This is Total BS they never wanted to pay for this claim. I bought 5 years warranty and was given an extra year free, and my service call was lowered to $45 instead of $75 per visit, This in in my 4 year and I tried to claim on AC unit but that was denied also said it was not properly maintained.
This company is a scam, DO NOT EVER PURCHASE from them.

Desired outcome: Payment back for $335.

Select Home Warranty Hot tub service

Absolutely worst company I have ever dealt with. Second time I have tried to make a claim. Told hot tub leak not covered on claim as it is located outside. Last time was power issue to hot tub, told its now not covered because it is above ground? Canceling contract as we have 2 yes still, now told we have no refund as they are charging a daily rate to ensure we get no refund. That amount also changed over several conversations. Stay away!

Select Home Warranty Home Warranty - Claim # - [protected]

The worst company I've ever dealt with. They tell you how wonderful they are and when it comes to paying, they say it's not covered. My pool filter was out of commission and I called Select Home Warranty and asked that they send someone out to check the problem. They assigned a company and after multiple calls to them and finally speaking to someone, made an appointment and then they never show up. I called Select again tell them the pool company was a no show, the operator called the pool company and had the guy on the line telling me he would show up the next day. Again, he was a no show and Select couldn't or wouldn't contact another pool company. They said to call a company myself and pay out of pocket and they would reimburse me. After weeks of back and forth and endless paperwork they tell me it's not covered, when it clearly states in the contract that the pool filter system is covered. After speaking to a few people who barely speak English and are located someplace oversees, trying to tell them it's a covered part and not one person willing or able to help or understand. I ended up paying the full amount of $875.00 to the pool company. that I found and had them fix the problem. I then requested to cancel my warranty since it's not worth the paper it's printed on and still waiting for my refund going on 3 weeks now. I call and they tell me it could take up to 30 business days... which means up to 6 weeks for the return of my money. I sent a letter to the company and never received a response. One reason I'm sending this email is I want to help people and warn them about this company and to stay away.

Thank you.

I had the very same problem with this company. The first company they assigned to fix my pool filter did not show up. Even after several conversations with them. They told me to find my own company and they will reimburse me. They did not reimburse me. Then I had my pool pump go out. Again could not find anyone. Finally after a couple of months and threats to cancel, they sent a company to look at it. They said it needed to be replaced at a cost of $2,200 dollars. Select Home Warrant would only authorize $400.00. So I cancelled my coverage. They lied about the entire process. Then they wanted to take the $400,00 dollars back that they authorized. Even though it never got fixed. This is a horrible company and should be put out of business.

Hi Alan,
Any luck with your refund? Im in the same boat as you. I canceled my policy on 10/26/21 and have been getting the runaround since. Still no sign of getting my refund as of today and now im thinking i may have to take legal action to get my money back. Absolute con artists is the best way to describe what this “company” is.
Best of luck

Select Home Warranty My Oven

We put in a claim for our oven, and they kept confusing it with a microwave, it's my oven, it will not broil anymore. We started this process 3 weeks ago and tomorrow is Thanksgiving. When I initially filed this claim, we also had an agreement that SHW would pay the $100 deductible because they screwed up so bad on another claim. When I finally got it straighten out that it's my oven not my microwave, they said they were trying to find someone to fix my oven and they said my deductible was $100, so I had to jump through hoops to get them to remove the $100 deductible and now my oven is not fixed, SHW has gone silent and not responded, they are trying to get out of not paying the $100 deductible.

This company is a joke don't come here you will spend money and they wont fix a thing.

Desired outcome: want my oven fixed ASAP

Select Home Warranty Insurance coverage

I purchased the Select Home Warranty in March 2021. I was promised that all household items including electrical, plumbing, etc., are covered as part of the warranty and if anything is broken, we can file a claim and they would either fix it or pay for replacement. I didn't have any claims for over 6 months and then our microwave oven stopped working. I filed a claim around September 16 to get it fixed. I was asked to call back with more information and during that call I provided them with a model #, since they stated that they don't repair microwaves but pays for replacement. Later I went to Home Depot/Best Buy to look up the microwave with the model #. I was told that the model number is wrong and I found the correct model number. I was told that the replacement would cost approximately $3000 to $4000. Later, even before I provided them with the corrected model #, I received an email stating that my Authorized amount for replacing the microwave is $95. I called them to give the corrected model #, since I thought they made a mistake. Not sure how they came to the resolution with an erroneous model #. Even after fixing the model #, they stated that the approved amount is $95. They are paying less than 3% of the total cost of replacement. I kept calling them few times and they promised to escalate it and re-review it, but then they came back and offered $100 more. I asked for more information on the depreciation calculation, since based on a website-based depreciation calculator, I got an amount which is close to the replacement cost and some out of pocket payment. However, they were not ready to share any information on how they came up with an approved amount of $95, which was later increased to $200, due to my calls. During one call, I was explained that if I buy a watch for $1, 000 and try to sell it at a pawn shop, I will not be paid more than $100, which means that Select Home Warranty is paying me more than a pawn shop and I should be happy. I did not pay for 3 years upfront cost of insurance to be treated like I am going to a pawn shop to select my home equipment. Also, if I can pay $3.5K from out of pocket, I can afford to pay $200 that is being offered to me. I don't need an insurance to cover that cost. I called multiple times to resolve this issue, but they are not ready to reveal any information to come to a fair settlement.
Some of the questions that I have, but getting no response:
1. How was it determined that the microwave cannot be repaired without a site visit? The contract states the binding obligation of Select (See 2. Obligations) to send a qualified service contractor and/or technician to repair or replace the systems and appliances. However, nobody was sent to inspect, but a decision was made that the microwave is deemed irreparable. It was randomly assigned a minimal value without any basis.
2. They determined the cash settlement based on a wrong model # of the microwave. So, it was randomly determined that the replacement cost is $95. No change to the value was made after I provided the corrected model # of the microwave.
3. Based on the contract, the cash settlement shall be in an amount not to exceed the depreciated value of the appliance. The original/replacement cost of the microwave is approximately $3000 and it is 6 years old. Based on depreciation calculators available online, the depreciated value ranges anywhere between $1, 500 to $2, 000. However, based on Select, it is $95. I have repeatedly asked for an explanation regarding how the depreciated value was calculated and I was told that they cannot explain anything, and they can only pay whatever the back office decides. This is completely unfair to the customer.
4. I have called them multiple times and each time they have given me different excuses, which indicates that they are trying to avoid providing the true reason.
5. I have asked for a written explanation, but I have multiple emails from them stating "give us a call", but never a written response.

It would be great if NBC can take this up and not only assist with my case, but also so many others that are being cheated the same way. Find numerous exactly similar cases on Facebook and BBB. Consumers need help and should not be allowed to be scammed by these insurance companies.

Select Home Warranty water leak under sink in kitchen

I've been told I have coverage, then I don't have coverage, then I do have coverage. SHW is a totally bogus and deceitful service and as an attorney, I'll be in court tomorrow and will file suit again SHW which will spend 25k defending against a suit because it didn't provide coverage for a leak under the sink. It will make my fellow attorneys happy, but SHW will lose in the end

Desired outcome: for SHW to admit its errors.

Select Home Warranty Sales person gave a verbal agreement and then did not follow thru

I signed up with Select home warranty in June of 2021. I was promised by Moe Hanley that he would back date the effect date to July 1- NOT 30 days from the day I signed. This was important as that is when my other policy expired. Then they have a 90 day probation period. My washer went out Oct 5th. I filed a claim, they sent out technician who replace a part that was NOT the problem. They then claimed I had exceeded my probation period repair price of $150 and therefore would not be doing anything further. I called repeatedly always told a superviser would call back. Never happened. I called my sales person who passed me off saying he would have his supervisor call. never happened. Not one person at Select bothered to speak to Mr Hanley. Then cancelled my policy after I stated I did not want to cancel due to the amount of $62 they refunded on a payment of over $400. They never listened or follow up. Promises and verbal contract were made just to get paid and then they denied all of it. They were rude and terrible to deal with. I would never recommend using this company for anything.

Desired outcome: I want paid for my washer that does not work.

Select Home Warranty Electrical wiring

On November 4th 2021 around 10 PM, my lights went dim in the Great Room, Kitchen, Dinning Room and Guest Bathroom after a few minutes of being dimmed all hard wired lighting in the mentioned areas returned on flicking and with very low voltage after a few minutes of being on all the lights completely lost electricity and the outlets in the Great Room and Guest Bath were no longer working. The next morning on November 5th 2021, I performed a reset from the electrical box and when I returned back into my home I could smell burring electrical wiring coming from the Guest Bath which was very alarming. I then began to feel ill from the effects of the burning smell of wires. I opened all the doors and windows in the adjoining areas to ventilate the rooms. I then placed a call to Select Home Warranty and filed and electrical wiring claim. I explained to the representative my issues and concerns my claim was processed and I received the following messages on November 5th 2021:

Dear Irene Collins,
"We thank you for contacting us with additional information regarding your Electrical System claim. We are in the process of finding a local technician to come to your home to diagnose your Electrical System.
This process usually takes up to 48 hours, and an email will be sent to you with the Technicians information.
Thank you, Dispatch Team"

Select Home Warranty
"Just checking in to let you know we are still working on dispatching your claim and should have a Technician lined up shortly.
You will receive a follow up email with the technicians contact information.
Thank you, Dispatch Select Home Warranty" Claim# [protected]

Dear Irene Collins,
"We have tried to process your Light Fixture claim for policy #[protected].
After further review, the problem you are having is not covered under your policy. We do offer it as an Optional Coverage Rider however, it was not selected or paid for when the policy was initially purchased. Additional coverage options can only be purchased within 30 days following the purchase date. Please see section 6.4 of the policyholder's agreement."

After reviving my claim #[protected] denial email I phoned Select Home Warranty on November 6th 2021 and explained to the representative that my issue is electrical and has nothing to do with my outlet fixtures. I was then issued a new claim #[protected] on November 7th 2021 and was assured that my new claim would state that my issues are not with the fixtures and is electrical only. Unfortunately that didn't work because my claim was denied November 8th 2021 for being a fixture issue and not being electrical.

Dear Irene Collins,
We have tried to process your Light Fixture claim for policy #[protected].
After further review, the problem you are having is not covered under your policy. We do offer it as an Optional Coverage Rider however, it was not selected or paid for when the policy was initially purchased. Additional coverage options can only be purchased within 30 days following the purchase date. Please see section 6.4 of the policyholder's agreement.

I'm very confused why my claim is being reported as something that its not when it is clearly stated under my warranty policy that it is.
FYI: The extra rider policy that has been mentioned in the Select Home Warranty emails was never offered or mentioned to me when I purchased my policy.

Desired outcome: Service your customers if their warranty states that its covered under the current policy.

I am experiencing the same thing. The repairman was here 3X and each time told me that it was repaired. It wasn't. Now, select wants me to have it diagnosed at my own expense and then they will send another repairman. I requested a different repairman after the 1st visit and was told they did not have another one. On the third visit I spoke to him as if he were 5 years old and explained that after the wash cycle it drains but does not spin it only spins after the rinse and that is when the softener dispenses and ruins my clothes. I showed him pics of the softener stains and his suggestion was to mix my softener with water because there was nothing wrong with my washer. The service Company D&A appliance of Linglestown, PA reported to select that they didn't know what was wrong with it. D&A advised me of that but Select did not reach out I had to call them. I paid monthly for over a year and this was my first claim. They wanted to charge me $70.oo to cancel. We need a class action suit!

Select Home Warranty Water Heater

We move into our home in June of 2019 in San Antonio. We had a home warranty plan when we moved in. We changed to Select Home Warranty in Jun of 2020 and have been with them since. Our water heater just starting not working and I filed a claim on it on Oct 21. A plumber can out on the 22nd and from the information he turned in our claim had been rejected because of lack of maintenance. I called Select Warranty on the 25th and sent this reply.
"Dear Sirs

I respectfully disagree with your decision. In looking at section 9.1.2. We have only been in the house for only 2 years and 4 month. It is within the 3 years record keeping period. We have no idea of what was done in the way of service to the water heater. We didn't even know how old it was or if it was a replacement. We were under the opinion it was new. We found it was manufactured in 2006 and our how was built in 2008. It could have been put in then or put in later. We do not know and anything else would have been speculation. Also we can see that it have never repaired because the plumbing is the same a neighbors. The water lines are galvanized pipes coming out of the wall to copper or brass tubing going to Galvanized or steel fitting coming out of the Water heater. After the 2 years and 4 months we have been here we have not had a reason to have it serviced until it started acting up. 9.1.1. mentions 3 years maintenance records. We haven't been here three years. There was proper installation, maybe not the prettiest. There had been no repairs and it would be speculation if there had been. We had no records for the pervious owners so we had no control over that. It looked like a new water heater so we saw no reason for a service. It was heating fantastic until jut recently. We did not fail to properly maintain. We did not fail to properly clean and the system was not modified. Our neighbors is set up just like ours. So please honor the warranty.

Thank you

John Merrill"

This pretty much says it all.

The picture on the left is my neighbors Installation, on the right mine.

Desired outcome: Repair or replacement as advertised.

I was looking for a home warranty policy to replace an existing one that was scheduled to expire. I found SHW and reached out to an agent. The agent answered my questions, walked me through the policy, and confirmed that I had 30 days to cancel the policy and receive a full refund.

Within a few days, I reached out to SHW to get some information about coverage. Even though they won't send a draft of the policy before payment - this seems to be a standard with other warranty companies as well - I walked with the agent through the policy and he assured me everything we had discussed would be in the policy. Since the policy I received via email had typos and missing information, I wanted to make sure the policy was corrected, so I reached out to the agent via email. No response. I called the customer care line and spoke to another agent about the issue. He didn't correct the policy. I asked for the policy to be cancelled. Since I was approximately one week into the policy, I knew I was within the 30-day grace period. However, after speaking with numerous people at this organization, no one seemed to have the authority to cancel the policy. Months after I asked for the policy to be cancelled over the phone and via email, this company is still trying to withdraw money from my account. I received another text message this morning requesting payment. They are horrible and need to be investigated.

Desired outcome: Investigate the practices of this company and hold them accountable; make them stop spamming me.
