Dear Sir/Madam,
I trust you are well.
I am writing to request a detailed update regarding the case I lodged following my vehicle incident on 3 May between 11:10 and 11:33, after refuelling at your Sasol service station. I purchased diesel fuel to the value of R300, and I have attached proof of payment.
At the time of refuelling, my vehicle still had approximately 220 km of fuel remaining, as I do not allow my fuel level to run low. After leaving the station and travelling towards Johannesburg, I began hearing an unusual noise from the engine compartment. As I approached the N12 on my return journey, the issue persisted despite the vehicle previously operating without any faults.
I then stopped at another Sasol garage where the vehicle’s engine failed completely. Upon inspection, there were no visible signs of oil or water leaks. A Sasol consultant on site advised me to return to the station where I had refuelled.
I subsequently arranged alternative transport and returned to your station, but I was informed that no manager was available, and I was denied access to the CCTV footage. This raises serious concerns regarding accountability and operational oversight at the station.
On Monday, I returned again and engaged with the management team. Despite providing valid proof of purchase (both bank receipt and internal system confirmation), I was informed that they were unable to identify my presence at the pump on CCTV. My request to review the footage was again declined. I was advised that the correct fuel was dispensed; however, no supporting evidence has been provided, and the CCTV footage has still not been shared despite my request and provision of my contact details.
To further support my claim, I purchased an additional 1 litre of diesel from the same pump for testing purposes. I also have tracker records confirming that after refuelling, I did not stop or refuel at any other station, which substantiates that the issue originated immediately after refuelling at your facility.
As a result of this incident:
My vehicle is now non-operational
I was forced to arrange towing at my own expense
The vehicle had undergone a major service just one week prior
It was operating perfectly, including a trip from Vaal to Pretoria the day before the incident
Based on the above, there is a strong indication that the fuel dispensed may have been contaminated or incorrect.
I urgently request the following:
A detailed report on the findings of your investigation
Access to the CCTV footage for the time of the transaction
Confirmation of the fuel quality checks conducted at the pump in question
A clear resolution plan, including liability and repair of my vehicle
This matter is causing significant inconvenience and financial strain. I expect a prompt and transparent response. Should this not be resolved urgently, I will have no option but to escalate the matter further through the appropriate legal and regulatory channels.
Please treat this matter with urgency. I look forward to your response.
Kind regards,
Ronald
Desired outcome: to fix the car
