I’ve long wanted a nice code editor to open Swift files on iOS to reference code, search, and make light edits without needing to go get on the Mac. Thank you.

There are issues opening most files (regardless of their type) that are accessed through a cloud repository (in my case I used OneDrive). Please fix if possible. Thank you!

I’ve only done a few small scripts with it, but it’s already better for writing and editing code on my phone than any of the other editors I’ve tried. It’s well thought through, and fast. Love it.

What a wonderful lightweight app. I use it to code and write mark down with the inspiration hits. While not specifically a coding language, I would love to see the mark down language "fountain" supported.

It is so nice to open and use an application produced by someone who truly thought about its use and function. Runestone is a well-planned, well-designed app. It's a pleasure to use because it was designed that way. Great purchase.

If you’re looking, you know what it is and I’ll tell you it is worth it. Even without premium it’s a great text/markdown editor. If you use it even a couple times a week the premium update is worth it and reasonable for what you get (my opinion of course).

Until BBEdit is published for iOS, Runestone is my editor. It is very polished, intuitive, and powerful. It makes editing source code far less painful on an iPhone or iPad. In fact, with an external keyboard paired, it’s actually quite pleasant.

Everyone should have a good text editor in their toolbox. As far as I’ve seen, Runestone is the benchmark.

I rarely write review, but this app deserves it. Like others, I’ve tried several other editors, Coda, Koder, Textastic, etc. none of them really worked for me. Then I stumbled over Runestone. It took less than 5 minutes before I purchased the premium version. It does everything I need, is fast, has a super clean interface, is easy to use, and actually works. It’s the perfect editor for me.

I’m trying to learn Swift on my iPad. Storing and referring to code snippets right in Swift Playgrounds just was not cutting it anymore. I was going through text editors looking for something that I could keep as a slide over for quick reference. I saw a blog post on about this on Daring Fireball, and within minutes of downloading I knew I had exactly what I needed. I just copied my sample into a new plain text file that I named with a .swift extension and I’m off and running!

This just came out and I had it pre-ordered, so I haven't had a huge amount of time to use it yet, however so far my experience has been absolutely fantastic especially compared to my other text editor apps which seem to be very resource-heavy.

Also, I love how customizable it is, and it is definitely the easiest way to do a simple edit for any code in a pinch! I'll update this review if I run into any issues but so far, so good!

I’m editing files straight out of Working Copy, where I keep a local copy of my “dotfiles” project. Lots of files in there live inside directories that start with a dot, such as .config etc. Or the files themselves start with a dot, like .inputrc, .bashrc. I can’t figure out how to get to these files in Runestone. I wanted to report this as a bug but could not find the appropriate place to do so; so I’m doing it here. The app is great and clearly worth five stars so I’m not going to dock stars for this bug, but please, please, take this under consideration.

I’ve tried so many text editors from Coda for iOS to Koder to Textastic. They’ve all been “ok”, but the problem I kept coming down to was the syntax highlighting. I’m a web developer and I use Atom on Mac every single day. I discovered this app and the syntax highlighting looked pretty good, but then I found where you can create your own theme and I immediately bought Premium and got to work replicating Atoms theme I use. I got it 90% of the way there and I’m in love. I’ve wanted this for years. THANK YOU.

If I could ask for anything it would be tabs for multiple files open at once and maybe a tree view on the left to browse files and folder structure, but other than that I LOVE IT.

A good text editor is like a freshly sharpened chef’s knife. It just FEELS good to use, and it makes you happy. You know what a dull knife feels like and you can appreciate the perfect slicing motion you get from using the right tool for the job. Runestone is the right tool for text editing. It’s gorgeous, powerful enough to tackle editing huge files, and simple enough to jot down some quick notes or whip up a blog post for your static site. Combine this app with a git client, an SSH client, and you can manage your home software stack on the go. Finally, there’s not enough space here to say nice things about the developer, so I’ll leave it at - he’s incredibly thoughtful and responsive. If you have feedback on the app, hit him up on Twitter.
