Resort Condominiums International [RCI] - not honest

We were offered a cruise/vacation package for 1600.00. Sounded good over the phone, as a matter of fact to good to be true. When I booked the cruise I had to pay and extra 1700.00 for a handicap room. That was problem number one. When I went to book our seven day vacation, it could only be booked a year in advance. Well most owners dont turn in their weeks at the beginning of the year so I have until July 2013 to book this vacation. There are no "exotic", "world renowned", "Oregon coast", packages available. So we will end up going to a shabby resort for our seven day stay.
Then I was talked into becoming a Platinum member. When the special features of this didn't work our for us I was told that those were just "add-ons" as a courtesy to us from RCI.
Well If I could sell my timeshare in Hawaii and dump RCI it would be done in a New York minute.
Make sure you ask a lot of questions before you make any deals and if your guts says "NO" then dont do it.

The comment about an "open itinerary" is OK if you want to go to one of their "selected" resorts "during their time frame". If you don't choose to stay within the selections, you pay a fee, a large fee, to stay at the vacation resort of your choice. I was under the impression that with my certificate that I could stay anywhere in RCI wonderful world of resorts - this is true if I wanted to pay additional money above the 1600.00 for the package, and the 1700.00 for the handicap room.
This RCI cruise and resort package has cost us more than if we had booked it ourselves.
