Purchasing Power review: Rental car services

I am writing to formally complain about my recent experience with Purchasing Power regarding a rental car reservation that I was unable to use due to undisclosed payment requirements.

I booked and paid for a one-week rental car through Purchasing Power for pickup at JFK Airport. When I arrived at the rental location, I was denied the vehicle because I did not have a credit card available with at least a $1 authorization capability for potential toll fees or late return charges. I offered to use my debit card instead, but the rental company refused to accept it.

At no point during the booking process was I clearly informed that a traditional credit card would be mandatory in order to receive the vehicle. Had this requirement been properly disclosed beforehand, I would never have completed the reservation.

After being denied the rental car, I immediately contacted Purchasing Power to request a refund since I never received or used the vehicle. My request was denied. As a result, I am now being forced to continue making payments for 52 months on a rental car reservation that I was never able to use.

I believe this situation is unfair, misleading, and unacceptable. Customers should be clearly informed of all mandatory payment requirements before completing a purchase, especially when those requirements can prevent the customer from receiving the product or service entirely.

I am requesting the following:

A full refund of the charges related to this rental car reservation.
Cancellation of any remaining payment obligations associated with this transaction.
A review of Purchasing Power’s disclosure policies to ensure future customers are properly informed about rental company payment requirements before purchase.

I hope this matter can be resolved promptly and fairly. If necessary, I am prepared to file complaints with consumer protection agencies, the Better Business Bureau, and my financial institution.
