Pocket FM review: A single story can cost thousands. Do not get started.

Pocket FM’s pricing is outrageous and, in my experience, not transparent enough upfront.

You are given a generous number of free episodes at the beginning, which gets you invested in a story. Then the free access slows dramatically and you are pushed toward buying coins to continue. The problem is that there is no clear, simple upfront price showing what it will actually cost to finish a full series.

With long stories containing hundreds or even thousands of episodes, the total cost can climb into the multiple thousands of dollars for a single story if you keep buying coins to listen at a normal pace. That is absurd compared with traditional audiobooks, streaming subscriptions, or even premium audiobook services.

Pocket FM also promotes games and other offers as a way to earn free coins, but the process is confusing, poorly explained, and prone to problems. There is little clear guidance on what is required, how progress is tracked, when rewards should post, or what to do when they do not.

Using Pocket FM between the app and website is also unnecessarily confusing. Account access and balances are not seamless, which makes an already expensive service even more frustrating to use.

I do not object to paying for entertainment. I object to a system where the true cost of finishing a story is difficult to understand upfront and can become extraordinarily expensive after you are already invested.
Pocket FM should clearly disclose the estimated total cost of completing a series, offer a reasonably priced unlimited subscription, or provide a fixed whole-story purchase option.
