Live animals, cockatiel
Purchased a Cockatiel at the west side store on April 1 2022. The bird died on April 5th 2022. When I contacted the store I was told there was nothing they could do. No guarantee on animals over $200. They did not offer a refund or exchange. I think the bird was sick when I purchased it. I have raised birds for over 50 years and never had one die that soon!

Bad merchandise, no refund/replacement
I used to go here all the time as my local pet store. Then I made the mistake of ordering a fish through them. It was dead within 24 hours, from Enteric Red Mouth Disease, something that doesn't just crop up overnight. The fish had it when I got it from them. I immediately contacted them and told them what had happened. I wanted a replacement, or a refund, or some form of compromise since they obviously sold me a sick fish. After stringing me along for weeks, they finally told me they weren't willing to do anything. I even asked if they could trade the value in feeder fish. Nope. Bear in mind, when you buy a dozen feeder fish you usually end up with 13-14 in the bag, so those are free. So they weren't even willing to give me something that they, over time, would give away free anyway. They told me the best they could do was sell me another fish. Lol, ok, because I would do that again after the way I was treated this go round. I won't be back, and I will strongly warn any person who will listen not to go there and to take their business elsewhere. They took my money for bad merchandise, and basically told me to get bent when I tried to get recompense. Shame on you Pet Food Center!

So here is my "RANT" about Pet Food Center! Gggggrrrrr! My daughter had a rabbit that was a female and she wanted to get it a playmate. She went to Pet Food center here is Evansville on the West Side to get her a new bunny!!! Fun Fun, right? Well she went to get another female because she had a female, makes sense, right? So she was told not once, not twice...

Pet Food Center in Owensboro is a major disappointment and the assistant manager is the most ignorant of them all! I went in there to check out their selection of rat toys, which was pathetic, and since they didn't have anything I thought I'd go check out the animals they have. Anyway there was a group of older kids around the hamster cage which had a large amount of babies and the water bottle was so high only the mother could reach it! I There was a hamster that caught my eye right off...he was horrible looking...his fur had no shine and his eyes weren't bright like the rest..he was pretty much lifeless. Plus to make it worse there was a dead hamster in the same glass cage. We notified the assistant manager and she acted like she could care less! I have never seen someone act so uncaring or concerned. I picked up the little guy and took him up front to buy him so maybe I could get him healthy since they apparently didn't care. Neither her or the other girl staff member could give any insight on what might help him...all I got was she doesn't want to sell him because he is sick and there's a 3 day guarantee... I knew my chances on saving him were slim and told her I didn't plan on bringing him back IF he did die. We took him to PetSmart where they really were great and helpful and CONCERNED. The little hamster didn't want to eat, he could barely keep his eyes open and he gasped for every breath he took.. I tried my best but he passed away about 5 hours later. I contacted the general manager and he basically told me they took in some baby hamsters from a customer and he guesses they took them away from their mother to soon. It's sad if you're going to take animals from customers but you don't bother finding out if they are weaned or have any disease?! Learn to take care of your animals PFC and pay attention to them and maybe incidents like this can be avoided.
I would love if the weather stayed in the upper 70s all summer yeah right though lol. It's funny cause when it's winter and freezing your wishing summer would come.. Then when summer gets here and it's blazing hot you wish for winter! LOL

Lmao slynn that's so cute and funny too! My lil doggies have their individual quirks lol like bobo will constantly chew his freaking ### it's so gross! I have suggested we get him a cone lol. Tyson is blind so he really doesn't do much but run into things which makes me feel so horrible! Cayden and buddy will find any trash anywhere and drag it around and rip it to shreds! When I had momma cat she was like your cat too nothing but one thing would keep her interested lol. Animals have a mind of their own! :)

Damn I missed a lot since I was sick lol. I'm glad you and Brenda made truce lol and I agree too that Brenda does have good advice. But I also have to say, even though I and sp don't agree, that on some posts I read she made sense. All I know is from what I seen in the store for that half hour I was there and the stupid staff that totally kept blowing me off just disturbed me so much I had to vent somehow. I still cry knowing I couldn't save him, I guess that makes me a wimpy ### cry baby but I guess I'm just more sensitive than normal lol. I didn't write thus complaint on here until after I spoke with the general manager and his explanations were all over the place. He thought it was kinda funny, I did not and that really pisses me off. Especially when he told me that the store had electrolytes (spellings off sorry lol) in the back and the assistant manager knew this and he didn't know why she didn't offer to use them. I dunno maybe she forgot. anyways I'm most likely going to sit back and only reply back to positive comments lol cause I don't want stuff to turn out like an episode of Jerry springer. But I do respect Antibes opinion and I wanna thank everyone for sharing your thoughts on this matter. Thanks so much slynn you rock too :) and thanks Brenda I appreciate what you said. My weekend has been busy I've been helping out both my grandmas and my mom and it was hectic but worth every minute. Hope your weekend was great too :) don't worry about anyone else who posts unless it's something positive, all this negativity really sucks lol.
Aw they sound so adorable! I would love to own a cat but I'm pretty sure as of now that would be a disaster lol. My rats names are skeezy and jacho. Skeezy is tan and white and jacho is grey and white. I've trained them to so a couple of tricks, they are a lot of fun! As for my doggies there's Buddy aka booty who is a dachshund, Tyson who's a min-pin and dachshund mix, Jody aka bobo who's a yorkie chihuahua mix and cayden aka fuzzy who's a Pomeranian :) gotta love our animals!

thank you for your response, it was rather amusing! Well first off when the store doesn't even know how old the babies are and if they ARE or ARE NOT still nursing then why take them? So yes, their care right there was LESS than mine. What I saw at the moment was good enough for me, You were not there, so why don't you stop running YOUR mouth? You don't even live here so doesn't that make you a hypocrite? You're also making accusations and assumptions. Well hopefully I don't run my mouth and put an innocent person on death row now now! Heh, you're a waste of my time you're just a ### who thinks you know everything. (Yep, I made another "assumption and accusation!")
It makes me sad the immaturity of some of these posts. The hamsters welfare is of the utmost priority, that is all that should matter to the pet shop. This is clarified in their license. Arguing over whose fault it was does not matter, once the hamster was discovered the staff should have done everything in their power to decrease suffering, even if that meant euthanising. Well done TD6 for trying to help the hamster, I know personally how heart breaking it is when an animal you try and save dies anyway. Even if the hamster was born sick and was going to die anyway, as certain users have stated, the pet shop should have done regular health checks (anyone in this business is taught that - I know this from personal experience). and the hamster should have been dealt with, and not left on display. Judging by the photos the hamster did not become suddenly ill, and it is the responsibility of the pet shop employees to notice these things. It not only fails animal welfare laws, but trading standards laws, for after all, they are a business. Making excuses for such a business is a failing on humanities part. Certain businesses (hospitals, boarding kennels, pet shops, child care establishments) cannot have excuses made for them, as they are in charge of life, and by not being responsible they can cause suffering.
Hot as Hades in Southern California! I have only wear shorts and t shirts here. We are having an Indian Summer. I still have to get my youngest kids some jeans, he grew out of all his. I got his jacket taken care of... But how it has been here he might not need it!

No, the fur doesn't lay flat like that and their bodies don't lock up stiff like that when they first die. They're quite limp and floppy. Takes a while for the rigor to set in. And for crying out loud where are it's ears? Did those fall off before you found the animal and took the pictures?

ummm... I just want to know why the original poster waited so long to take pictures of that dead hampster. That animal is not dying in those pictures it is DEAD. LONG DEAD considering that it's flat on one side and the limbs didn't move at all when it was flipped over in that last pic.
Pet stores that sell live animals for a profit are notorious for neglecting the animals. Sounds like this place is among them. thank you for trying to help this poor creature! :)
I'm a dog trainer in North Wales Police I do it in my spear time as a voluntear, I am also in collge Llangrillo. I work in Theatre Colwyn during the weekend. So in other words. I work alot around animals, I have a german shepard named Tara, she's lovely if a bit odd in the head. I also have a rabit named Rodolf, a cat named Gizmo and finally I swear we also have a gremlin somehwere in my room (I call him Harry because I found him when reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows lol) My dog is perhaps the most kindest soul ever, when someone cries she instantly goes over to them and starts licking them on their land and if they don't stop she'll cry to. Poor thing. Rodolf likes carrots which is really helpfull rather then throwing the wasted carrots away. Gizmo likes rolling around on the carpet and if you sit still for too long he'll jump onto your lap and lol he's heavy. It gives me a dead leg. As for the gremlin...
He likes playing on my playstation2, I don't mind lol but he leaves my room a mess so I have to clean it lol. Good thing I'm neat:)

My cats, once in a while get in the trash... They seem to love chicken, and since I make a lot of it, there are times they will get into the trash.. (Or should I say RJ!) RJ is funny, we named him after "Over The Hedge", after the raccoon, that always was would get himself, and everyone else in trouble! RJ, thinks he can just help himself to dinner! At least that is a way I can get the kids and my boyfriend to the dinner table! God forbid, they are off their computers, or Xbox for a half an hour to eat their dinner! If they don't hurry RJ will enjoy their dinner for them! That is awesome that you have a blind dog! Your a really special person to do that... : )
