Dear Norwegian Cruise Line Customer Relations,
I am writing to formally express my disappointment and frustration regarding the airfare arrangements and additional charges associated with my recent trip booked through Norwegian Cruise Line.
I was expecting to travel through Newark Airport (EWR). Instead, I was booked on a flight departing from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). I have never traveled through JFK before, and this created significant inconvenience, stress, hardship, and unexpected expenses that I was not prepared to incur.
Because I was booked through JFK instead of Newark, I had to make several additional transportation arrangements just to get to my flight. My expenses included:
$58 – Trans-Bridge transportation from the ABE area to Port Authority
$70 – Taxi from Port Authority to my friend’s home
$90 – Uber from my friend’s home to JFK Airport
This totaled $218 in additional transportation expenses each way. I incurred similar transportation expenses on my return home, bringing my total additional transportation costs to approximately $436.
These expenses could have been avoided if I had been booked through Newark Airport, which would have been much more convenient for me and would have eliminated the need for multiple additional forms of transportation.
Unfortunately, the situation became even more upsetting when I arrived at the airport and was charged for my checked luggage.
I traveled with other passengers who were part of the same trip. There were approximately 289 people booked for the same destination and travel package, and we were all traveling to the same destination on the same flight. However, I was charged for my luggage while other passengers in our group were not charged.
I do not understand why I was charged a luggage fee when other passengers traveling under the same package, on the same flight, and to the same destination were not. I believe this discrepancy deserves a thorough review and explanation.
I understood that my first checked bag was supposed to be included with my travel arrangements. Therefore, I am requesting reimbursement for the luggage charges I was improperly or inconsistently charged, in addition to reimbursement for the $436 in documented transportation expenses that I incurred as a result of being routed through JFK instead of Newark.
I also ask that Norwegian Cruise Line consider compensation for the considerable inconvenience, stress, time, and hardship this situation caused me. My vacation should have been an enjoyable experience, but the transportation arrangements created unnecessary difficulties before my trip even began and again when I was returning home.
I respectfully request that Norwegian Cruise Line:
Review why I was booked through JFK instead of Newark Airport.
Reimburse my $436 in additional transportation expenses caused by the JFK routing.
Review the luggage charges I was required to pay.
Explain why I was charged for luggage when other passengers traveling under the same package, to the same destination, and on the same flight were not charged.
Provide appropriate compensation for the inconvenience, stress, and hardship this situation caused.
I am prepared to provide receipts and documentation for my transportation expenses and luggage charges. I would also appreciate a written response explaining how these charges were determined and why passengers in the same travel group were treated differently.
I booked my vacation through Norwegian Cruise Line with the expectation that my travel arrangements would be handled properly and fairly. I hope Norwegian Cruise Line will take my concerns seriously and work with me toward a fair resolution.
Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your response and to having this matter resolved fairly.
Sincerely,
Carol Pena
