Confusing cancellation process, unexpected charge, and unacceptable customer support
I signed up for LANDR only to test the free trial. After trying the service, I decided it was not suitable for me and believed I had canceled the subscription before the trial ended.
Despite this, LANDR unexpectedly charged me for a full monthly subscription. After discovering the charge, I logged back into my account and found that the subscription had apparently not been fully canceled.
In my experience, LANDR’s cancellation process was unnecessarily confusing. Because the payment had been made using Apple Pay, I initially expected to be able to manage or cancel the subscription through Apple Settings. However, the subscription did not appear there because it had not technically been purchased through the App Store.
I was also unable to properly complete the cancellation through the LANDR mobile app. I later discovered that I had to log into LANDR through a web browser and go through several steps before the subscription was actually set not to renew. A cancellation process should not be this difficult or unclear.
Most importantly, I did not use LANDR at all during the paid subscription period. I only logged back into the account to investigate the unexpected charge and make sure the subscription was finally canceled. LANDR therefore received a full monthly payment from me for a service I did not use.
I contacted LANDR Support and repeatedly explained the situation. I asked for a one-time refund because I had genuinely attempted to cancel, had not intentionally renewed, and had received no value from the paid period.
Austin from LANDR Support repeatedly responded that monthly subscription payments were non-refundable. Instead of genuinely reviewing the circumstances, I received several repetitive responses referring to the same policy.
When a refund was refused, LANDR offered a percentage discount on a future purchase. However, they would not even state what the discount percentage would be. I then proposed a reasonable alternative: applying the amount I had already paid as account credit toward one future month of LANDR, with no short expiration period.
This request was also rejected. I was simply told that only an unspecified percentage coupon could be offered.
The entire conversation made me feel as though I was being deliberately sent in circles rather than helped. The responses changed slightly in wording but did not meaningfully address the issue, explain the proposed compensation, or offer a fair resolution.
I work in marketing myself, and I place great importance on customer service. Good support should quickly understand the customer’s actual problem, provide clear answers, respect the customer’s time, and make a reasonable effort to resolve the situation.
That did not happen here.
My complaint is not merely that LANDR followed a strict refund policy. My complaint is that:
• The cancellation process was confusing and difficult to verify.
• The subscription could not be properly managed through Apple Settings.
• I could not clearly complete the cancellation through the mobile app.
• A web login and several additional steps were required.
• I was charged despite genuinely believing I had canceled.
• I did not use the paid subscription.
• Support refused both a refund and an equivalent future account credit.
• The offered discount was not even clearly defined.
• The support responses were repetitive and unhelpful.
A company may be legally entitled to rely on its terms and conditions, but that does not automatically make the customer experience fair or acceptable.
Based on my experience, LANDR’s subscription and cancellation system is not transparent enough, and its customer support showed very little flexibility or genuine concern for resolving a reasonable customer complaint.
I strongly recommend that anyone starting a LANDR trial carefully verify the cancellation through the LANDR website, take screenshots, save the confirmation email, and check again before the renewal date. Canceling through your phone or assuming that an Apple Pay payment can be managed through Apple subscriptions may not be enough.
This experience felt extremely unfair and scam-like, and I cannot recommend LANDR.
Claimed loss: USD 20 (monthly subscription charge)
Desired outcome: A full refund or account credit for the unused subscription, together with improvements to LANDR's confusing cancellation process and customer support.
