A few things about dealing with HireRight:

1) They are contracted by companies to perform background checks, however the EMPLOYER is the one with the last say. You'll be surprised how much a simple phone call to the HR department/Recruiting department at your prospective employer can go in circumventing much of the bogusness that HireRight likes to put applicants through.

2) I suspect (but cannot prove 100%) that the people conducting the searches for HireRight are not based in the United States. My reasoning for this is in my dealing with them, not 1 employee that I spoke to had an American accent, and there was a serious delay when they would call, or when speaking with them on the phone. They told me to get a W-2 from the IRS and send it back within 24 hours -- bwahahahaha! They can't be from here if they think our government would ever do anything that quickly.

3) DO NOT SEND THEM YOUR W-2 or any other personal information you do not feel comfortable in giving out. News flash: most companies DO NOT require this type of information for hiring unless you are trying to gain some type of government/security clearance.

4) DO contact HR at your prospective employer each time HireRight requests information from you. It is absolutely 150% a waste of time talking to those people, so just hang up the phone when you hit a brick wall and call your employer. This serves 2 purposes: 1) to ensure that your employer is in the loop as far as where the background check process is and that the holdup is NOT on your end, and 2) to make the prospective employer aware that they are paying the nimrods at HireRight to do absolutely nothing but send ###ed emails to their applicants asking for the DNA of your first-born child to verify what junior college you attended for a semester in 1993.

Lastly, do not be afraid of HireRight! Again, keep in mind that the employer calls the final shot, and in some cases (such as mine) they will basically ignore HireRight's insane requests and hire you anyway...but you have to speak up and let HR/your recruiter know what's going on!

On January 09, 2020 a background report was requested for an employer. on January 16, 2020 the request was completed and HireRight reported my education record as Closed - Unable to Verify. They attempted to request my high school transcript from my school, although I graduated prior to 2013, meaning the actual school no longer has the record, but the school board does (record retentions). As per their investigation, they were given a turn around time of 72 business hours by the school board, but they closed the investigation prior to that timeframe. I then proceeded to submit a copy of my High School diploma by email on January 23, 2020, which was received. I also requested an OFFICIAL COPY of my entire high school transcript to be sent by expedited mail to HireRight's Tulsa, OK address directly from Broward County Public Schools. Fedex confirmed the package was sent, and received by HireRight on Tuesday 1/28/2020 at 9:21am, signed by A.Duff. On January 24, 2020 they modified my report and deemed the documents received as “Unacceptable”. However, after receiving both my High School diploma AND official transcript, with dates of enrollment AND graduation date confirmed, HireRight closed and reported my education as complete but with a discrepancy on dates of enrollment. Seriously? The dates of enrollment are all clearly listed on the transcript which covers all four years of my High School studies. Dealing with HireRight has been a complete and utter nightmare. My job offer is now at stake due to HireRight’s incapability to thoroughly complete their investigation and report ACCURATE information. If any reputable business is considering using HireRight, please don't. They are incompetent and make hard working and honest individuals miss out on job offers, undeservingly.

HireRIght cost me a job also. They wrote in their report that my Social Security Number was issued between [protected]. Before my birth date. I went to the Social Security Administration twice and got letters. I sent it to them and nothing. It takes 30 days to dispute a finding. Who has that kind of time. I disputed and in the mean time my company pulled my offer. Now I have no job and no prospects because I thought I had a job.

I was Denied_a stupid minimum wage job at my local Kmart! They spend more mailing me pack is of denial letters repeatedly. Why? Supposedly my credit report. I was rushed through application by HR at Kmart.She input all my info on computer.She said she was only one allowed to do it.I would sign my name via keyboard when she asked. I figured no big deal. I just wanted brainless job to keep busy. I had worked 8 years for a Nuclear Power plant, and 10 years for school district. Unbelievable! Do they have the right to check your credit history? This company is shady! If I can work for a Nuclear plant where they check you inside and out, how can they say I'm not eligible? Is there a lawsuit anyone knows of against them? Gail from PA

I applied to rent a apartment. They ran my background through this company and it came back that I was in prison at one time.
I have never been arrested! One ticket in my lifetime. I finally convinced to property owner that had the wrong person.

I want to thank everyone for their advice and sharing their experience with HireRight. After staying up all night reading these horrific experiences, I was not looking forward to going through this process. Although, the criminal background question on their application site didn't apply to my charges (sexual, violent, fraud, etc.) I still answered "Yes" to the question. The recruiter advised that it's best if you list them rather than letting them find them and report that you didn't report them as they "dig pretty deep". I've been able to login and watch the process of my background check and immediately saw that they were calling the wrong phone number to my former employer. In fact, they didn't call ANY of the phone numbers I listed to verify ANYTHING to include my degree. Fortunately, that process worked for my other positions, but not so much with my last one. The company I worked for, worked under a state contract and had several other entities within their own business, which was a violation of that state contract, but I won't get into that. At any rate, I only worked under the state contract for a month or so and it was when I returned from FMLA and they didn't have any room for me on any other contract. Therefore, only that month out of several years was verified. They have yet to ask me for any verification documents, all they did was ask me to clarify the dates. I just advised them to contact the number originally listed as they contacted the state side of the company. They did; however, they could only leave messages and when my former employer tried to return the call they could only get a voicemail that they obviously never check. So they completed that job verification with a discrepency in the start date. Everything else was verified, so now I am waiting on the drug screen. I've been waiting on it a week now and I find that very odd. I'm not sure if I will not get hired because of the discrepency, but I am hoping it is not an issue. I also noticed they verified my MBA which is in HR Management, but said it was in Business Administration. Um..I'm not even sure if there is a such thing as a MBA in Business Administration since an MBA is a Masters in Business Administration. They combined my college dates together for my BA and my MBA. It's just very apparent that they are not familiar with how things work in the states and they use the internet to provide verifications for everything. I am not going to submit my W-2s or taxes and while the job is perfect for me since I am disabled, it's only part time and it has no benefits. The pay is lower than what I'm worth as well. One thing I've learned is that most companies such as the one I am up for, have a standardized background check that everyone must complete. However, depending on the position, only certain elements of the background check really matter. My recruiter mentioned she needed to get my criminal and drug screen back before I can start. So I assume that is all that's required for this particular position. But I won't know until everything is completed. My start date is tomorrow. Hopefully they will have my drug test back by then. What I am confused about is that some say HireRight will say "DO NOT HIRE" and the companies revoke the offer. But others are saying it is up to the employer. Which is the case? Will HireRight say DO NOT HIRE if you only have one descrepency?

HireRight is worst Organization that I ever come across in my HR career. They operate on fake names. Their customer service does not a have real name. Very dubious operations. In 2012, these guys were fined by FTC in relation to violation of privacy and fair report policies. I've received a lot fake threatening calls from philippines on various occasions asking for money . Apparently, HireRight has operations in philippines. Their Customer service is a complete waste of time. Never ever send your W2's them. Its a big mistake. They do not have legal authority to ask you to provide this info.
If your Employer asked you to go through HireRight, all you need to do is, just tell your prospective employer that you are not comfortable sharing your personal information to these brats. Point to your employer that, they were fined by FTC recently. If that did not go well with your employer, just simply deny the offer.

HireRight is more like many of you have called it .. HireWRONG.
The managers bully you, they take one person to a side if they don't like you and go over silly rules such as uniform, if uniform was so important, why dont they speak to the whole entire team rather than picking on one person. OH ! i was promised at the beginning of the employment that I would get paid 5 days sickness, there was something seriously wrong with me, and i had to take them all off, and what happens, they paid me nothing. their excuse was, you are on probation, oh wait a minute, you said that I get paid 5 days sickness or holidays whatever it was, either way they had breached their contract. Even til this day I have heard that they still get paid peanuts! 14k a year! some on 16k a year, do they not think that some people need to earn a living without being bullied, rudely spoken to by HR through email and been looked down upon, oh by the way her name is Coeticia? however you spell her silly name, doesnt really matter about spelling or grammar I suppose, because the people in poland cant even spell simple words or write in full words instead they use short handed writing.
They have said the company profits have gone up and spoken about pay, yet they avoided the questions, they have taken us all in little groups and spoke to us about losing our jobs and the next thing you know... THEY OR WE ARE ALL SAFE IN OUR JOBS! so hold on, they can bring their own profits up, make the employees work like they are nothing to them, and yet fly that FAT BI*TH around the world in two weeks!? that is absolutely ridiculous. When I was once working there, the 3rd floor are ridiculous, it was like being back at school! screaming laughing, bullying, racism? And they said it would be a professional company. Dont get me wrong, some employees that work there actually do work hard and try to get the Candidate applications completed as soon as they can, because they dont want them to lose out on a job position. But the Managers HR people, directors, etc they are all a load of idiots!
Who on earth and what company does that to their employees threaten them say they all going to lose their jobs and then say they are safe? as soon as that happened, over 20 employees have left in a space of 1 month, i mean maybe more, but this is seriously not professional at all! the person that is in charge of all this... his or her head is full or stupidity. Apologies for my grammar, I am so angry with this company, the way they treat people!

By the way - they based one their offices in India and replaced an entire call centre with a small team of 4-5 people in London to take over the job of one whole call centre. They make me sick and even the Operations Director got fired, and the entire HR left. The place is a joke, as they know nothing about how to run a business and grow. Short term numbers and objectives will be the failure of this place. All the managers are friends and now they are in higher positions. They will never fire their friends who are amongst the most incompetent pieces of human beings that you will have ever encountered in your lives.

The managers there have no control and only know threatening, bullying and aggression. They scream at everyone and it is hell for many people to work there, as candidate's often screamed at you. Internally there is a significant lack of communication. Entire departments are full of incompetent managers and staff. Who sit there and do nothing, as a result other teams are under scrutiny and increased pressure from management. Two of the most senior managers used to speak in their native tongue Bengali. Which is one of the biggest problems there. 90% - 99% of the staff working there are Bengali and they do not speak in English. They used to swear at us in their language and call us sons of b*****s or c***s.

Overall = most unprofessional company ever. You are lucky people don't care enough to sue you in London.

I would like to describe my experience and my findings during my time spent at HireRight.

Firstly, I never made any formal complaints, as I had a feeling that this would not be taken seriously, due to a lot of corruption and biased internal staff, who would not have dealt with any issues appropriately or fairly. HireRight could face several lawsuits as a result of their behaviour, as they breached all contracts on numerous occasions, and I would recommend that people working within HR actually try to follow the UK employment law policies.

After much careful deliberation, I feel that the candidates and clients deserve to know why their files arrive in such a state, and why they are not given the service that is promised within the SLA that is agreed with the account manager. I also considered that had I known that I was entering into such a disorganised company, with untrained managers, who perform monkey management, and seagull management scenarios on a regular basis, that I could have possibly have been saved from wasting several months of my life working there.

A former colleague of mine had complained to HR several times about the abuse that we endured during our employment at HireRight, which I will refer to as HireWrong for the duration of this article, as there is nothing right about the company in any shape or form. The manager Abul Zubair laughed and mocked her after her departure and informed his team that he knew that she had complained about him to HR, so he applied pressure on her and he wanted her to leave. There was also much talk of faking the figures in regards to her rejection and completion rates in order to provide legitimate reasons and grounds for dismissal. My colleague has the current right to sue for defamation of character, as these comments were made after her departure, and are considered libel, as they could hinder her future career prospects. Not only were these comments considered slander, the level of unprofessionalism maintained by the managers within the company is the only consistent thing that the company has for itself.

The role itself is a recruitment role, which is basically business to business, as it involves obtaining something for someone, and each file closed is basically revenue generated for the company. It is a sales role, and similar to the role of a resourcer. However, many of the candidates have already obtained the position, therefore we are just conducting checks to provide a report for the client. However, the HR department decide to class the role as data entry, in order to pay £14, 000 per annum to their workers, and a maximum of £16, 000. They are well informed that the graduate salary for graduates with a BA is £20, 000 per annum as a bare minimum. Many of the works hold MA's and further qualifications, which just makes their HR policies and jurisdictions invalid as per UK HR Law and grievances.

There is a significant lack of shared vision within the company, as the employees are treated very badly, minimum training and support is provided. As per UK HR law, appraisals are not conducted, nor are exit interviews.

More than 90% of the employees working there at present, have not been screened by the company and the company sometimes does not screen it's employees until at least 3-6 months later. This would be very comforting to the clients- I am very sure about this.

Many of the managers are encouraged to threaten existing employees and coerce them, to make them feel as if they may lose their jobs. Psychological trauma and bullying is common place within the work place. Work load is irregular and varies between different people. Some have targets, which must be met, and some do not. Which creates a high level of departmentalisation within the company.

The main rascal of the company is Andrew McIntosh. His childish behaviour resemblant of a spotty teenager with a tantrum has been consistent throughout my time within the company. A significant amount of pressure is put on employees, and they are often required to give hourly updates on their performance, which is highly unfeasible. There is insufficient time to complete things, and minimal support is offered. The laissez faire attitude from the managers contributes to this, and lower level employees are just told to deal with things, and then told off about doing things wrong.

The level of staff turnover speaks for itself, less than 5% of the staff have been there for over 2 years or more. As the working conditions are impoverished, and prospects are weak.

Candidates are often lied to, as many of their files are left on the side, as nobody can be bothered to complete them. Clients are fed lies and lies, to add further delays to the reports, when other departments have had the file for at least 30 days before it goes to someone who can actually complete it. Candidates are often left frustrated and stressed with the screening process, as information is not passed over within the company. Including complete references, as a result, they have had a backlist which is growing every year. The interim team are incapable of sending basic emails and completing simple tasks and are lead by the very incompetent team leader who had the sole task of allocating tasks via their bespoke vetting system, which he was unable to do successfully. Legitimate value of references is compromised as a result of increased pressure on employees.

Many of the files often go missing, hence why there is a significant delay within getting the report back on time. Management is quick to tell you what is wrong and often stands next to you or sits next to you in order to coerce you into completing things for them. This company is a sham through and through, and you would be better off working in the supermarket.

Unrealistic targets are often set, with minimal incentives offered for high performing staff members. Lack of recognition is offered, and your performance is soon forgotten the next day.

Retention rates for staff speak for themselves, there are on average 3-4 people leaving per week, due to the bad working environment, low salary and poor conditions. Management consistently make false promises of changes within the company, and little or no changes have been made throughout the period of 12 months or more, hence why the backlist has been increasing.

Note for clients: spend the extra money to hire extra staff and do internal screening, as you will actually benefit from this.

Note for candidates: there are good people working there, who will complete your file, and we do understand your frustration as we have also been screened by this incompetent company :)

Note for HireWrong: Please close, as you do not have the relevant knowledge to take this company further. You do not have a proactive approach on how to lead your company into the future. The employees are the core of the business, and many of the employees left are weak and incompetent. This will undoubtedly affect you in the future, as you do not have the drive or innovation to move forward.

Solutions: Raise your salary, treat employees with respect, provide proper training, don't give false expectations, try to retain your experienced staff, stop patting yourselves on your back and start congratulating the people that work so hard for you and make your company what it is. Stop lying to clients and candidates, and make sure things are done properly, and not given to someone to rush things along. Lower your targets to something more realistic. No proper breaks are given for employees. Employees that spend 2 hours in front of a computer are required by LAW TO HAVE 15 MINS BREAK EVERY TWO HOURS!

This is a company that has no ethics, they can and will report false information about you to your prospective employer . They are very rude and unprofessional, in the least . And it is a shame that the employer chose such a poor company, even worse to believe their final reports. . They made claims
of of thirty attempts to verify information from one employer, then reported discrepancy against the applicant because of their incompetence . The verification took place by the same number in under six minutes including hold time . They are truly an example of liars getting away with it .

What you all need to do is file a complaint with the FTC at this address https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?lang=en. When they get enough complaints, they investigate the company and its practices. You also need to send a written letter to HireRight disputing their background check and demanding that every time they release information on you that they release your dispute as well. By Federal law, they must do it.

I just want to leave a quick comment regarding this company. I previously worked for them in [protected], I do not have knowledge of how they currently run the company but I can clarify a few things that applied while I was employed there. First, employees were American's as was I. Second, the timeframe given to the company by an applicants prospective employer is very short. The file is received on day 1 and closed on day 3. The purpose of contacting an applicant is to verify the information HE or SHE provided, so that the prospective employer can make a decision about extending an offer of employment. If W-2 copies are requested, it is simply to verify that an individual actually worked for that company during the time frame indicated. You would be amazed how long it takes previous employers to return a phone call sometimes. So for the people reading this, you basically have two choices. Help others help you get a job, or get passed up on a job because you don't want to provide assistance to a HireRight employee. That is basically what it boils down to.

My inbox was filled with spam almost immediately. I believe these are data miners rather than competent background checkers. Remember: When dealing with HireRight, they are getting paid to collect you information, you are not. do not spend any time doing their job for them. Why should they maximize their margins by having you collect all your information then passing it along to your employer? Make HireRight earn their fees. Complain about spam and sales of your personal information.

I've just gotten my first e-mail from hire right about needing more information from me. I called the number back and the representative wasn't in the least bit helpful and I could barely understand what he was saying through his thick accent. I asked him several times about the fact that I may not get the documents they need in a timely manner and he had absolutely no helpful feedback. I've sent 2 e-mails back regarding the matter and have yet to receive a response. The entire company seems exteremely unknowledgeable and most certainly not helpful. Unfortunately, I don't think that my hiring manager is going to be of much help even if I do contact her. I just don't know what to do. It's a really good job and at this point I really need it. It's extremely unfortunate that although an applicant is a perfect fit for a position, a company like hire right is the factor that keeps them from getting the job. I guess all you can do is hope for the best.

I had a similar experience with HireRight doing my background check for the company I started working for in January-- it took forever and they were calling me almost daily asking that I track down various documents (W2's, transcripts, etc.) and fax them to them, eating into a lot of the precious little time I had to transition out of my old job.. I couldn't help wonder why my new company was spending so much money for me to do my own background check, and very cautiously expressed my frustration to the HR associate my new company had assigned to me. She wasn't very helpful or sympathetic and the whole experience left me with a poor impression of my new employer. Now I've been recruited by another company who also uses HireRight. When the HR associate told me this and I quietly groaned, she indicated that she'd had some complaints about HireRight and to call her any time they contacted me. Makes me feel a lot better about the new company.
