Never been a subscription box fan, but at 20% off for the first month, I decided to try the Good Chop XL box for just $300 (42lbs) and it was shipped 9/2. I was supposed to receive it 9/4 and it arrived sometime late on the 5th or early on the 6th. Tracking with Ontrac (They are terrible for my area) showed the box sat in CA for two full days after shipping. It was delivered to Tucson in triple digit weather. The boxes had obviously defrosted, but appeared the delivery company (?) may have tried to refreeze, as many of the packages had the product all migrated into one corner of the bag and partially refrozen. The chicken wings has frozen into a blob in one corner of the bag and it all appeared unsafe to eat, not knowing how long it has been defrosted for. There was zero dry ice or anything else in the box to cool it. I reported it immediate on the auto system and received a response that I could expect a replacement box.
My husband mentioned that the contents didn't seem like 42lbs, so we weighed the entire delivery before disposing of it and it was 19.2lbs. Granted, some of the liquid that may have added to the weight no doubt had leaked out, so we decided to wait and see what the replacement shipment looked like and then make a call on whether to continue. $8.50/lb it a little high, but if the quality was good we were ok. However at $18.75/lb, there are no cuts I am paying that for without seeing them in person.
Although I contacted them on 4 separate occasions, I never received a replacement. Each time I was promised that the replacement box would be shipped within 2 days. On my 4th attempt, they just issued me a refund (we will see if it turns up) and I have elected to cancel my account.
I can't comment on the quality of the meat, only the terrible customer service and apparent EXTREME discrepancy in the amount of product promised and what was delivered.
Recommendation: Skip this trial!
