this is actually the worst out of all the freelance sites
This is actually the worst out of all the freelance sites! They have a very very bad payment system set up where you put money in escrow/milestone until the the person is done with the project. The problem is, if the person never completes the project and never logs in to their profile again, you money will sit in escrow and it cannot be removed until the other person cancels the project! This means you have to file a dispute and then pay for arbitration if nothing happens after that. That on top of the fees you lose for posting and awarding a project are ridiculous. This website is a joke and basically a cash cow for the people who are running it because they make their money off fees and stupid $#*! like that! I $#*!ing hate this website and am in the process of bringing a lawsuit against them as we speak!

I loaded funds from my payoneer account to freelancer.com, I also received a dispute resolution payment from my client, I converted it into USD and tried to withdraw funds, I received email with due date of withdrawal and after 2 days the request vanished from their site. After making another request, the same thing happened after 2 days. I contacted the Liars, initially they said 'The client doesn't have phone verification' so the funds can be transferred. After telling them its not my job to get the phone verified. They sent me another email that my funds will be refunded soon. Then after 3 days I again asked for my payment they said "Funds won't be transferred, as we only pay for earnings not Deposited Funds" I got really upset. That its my MONEY which I transferred from Payoneer.com to Freelancer. The client also approved my disputed payment it got transferred to my account and now these Thieves aren't giving me my money. Even the FUNDS I got transferred which has nothing to do with this LIARS they are not giving it back...
I want to know what other sites I can complain about them, give review and get JUSTICE...

I have to give a mixed viewpoint. My experience with this site is 4 years long. I found my experience so far not so good overall.
I can say that some strange practices confirm somewhat the stories on this complaint board...I remember 2014 when I withdrew all my money from a previous milestone...400$...My freelancer.com account went to zero. The employer created another milestone and the site freelancer.com attempted to take fees for this milestone...through an e-check from my Paypal account...connected to freelancer.com...and to my Payoneer bank account...connected to Paypal...The e-check should then come from my Payoneer bank account through Paypal to pay the "fees"...Payoneer bank accounts are virtual and NEVER allow wire transfers nor any of such operations...payment was cancelled for sure and as a result, Paypal deleted the link with my Payoneer account, believing the bank account was invalid...In 2016...I paid for professional membership on freelancer.com...one month costs 9$...and they took around 20 dollars from my account...I received a mail "your pro membership is activated"...I had to cancel this membership and ask for a refund (one month) because I didn't intend to pay several months at once...I was refunded the whole amount...so my pro membership was also cancelled...I never took any membership again.
On the same year, I had to apply on two projects poorly written and not detailed. I had the feeling in this period as if the creators of the site (or other people, but not obvious because you have to pay fees to submit projects), « invent" projects whose title directly target your skills ... and once you apply, hired ! And if you accept the project, boom! They take their fees as soon as possible ... but never again any response from the "employer" who posted the project. I got screwed one time, and asked for a refund of fees. The customer service told me flatly that the fees are not refundable. I politely asked how to cancel a project. I had the procedure.
Two weeks later, same story... I applied, but I did not accept the project because the "employer" never answered my messages. I received emails from freelancer.com saying "hurry, accept the project before the employer changes its mind!". That I ignored. 48 h. Disappearance of employer and project. Since then, it has not happened again. Since recently the fees are taken when paid for work only, which is far better.
These clumsy attempts always including money from freelancers or employers panel a "not so serious" connotation to this site.

11 months ago I worked with a person or agency named ‘translingual’ (Chennai, India). The project was to transcribe 2 hours of audio, for 1 hour/30 dollars. I finished the 2 hours and sent the project before them saying me that they can pay me only after 7 days. (which ended up becoming 10 days without payment). A milestone were created on the site for 2 hours/60 dollars, and I’ve been paid for that after 10 days. However during the 10 days I worked on an additional 6 hours of transcription.

I was never paid for the 6 additional hours. I sent files via PM for « verification », and I had promises to be paid, until the scammer stopped answering to my messages.

I am reminding and reviving them via PM and skype without success. The scammer is posting new projects on the same site, trying to scam more people.
What to do as a freelancer living at the opposite part of the world when bills are not paid?
I already contacted the website several times to report this problem. They’re helpless when it comes to recovering overdue payments and they do nothing about scams, once they have taken their « fees ».
From what I remember I had my membership set on free so I would no longer be charged by Freelancer.com
On 14th november they charged me $18.59 for a yearly subscription.
When I looked at the site the free membership option was no longer there and my membership was set at the paid yearly subscription without my permission. I deleted my account on the same day as I had no intention to pay this subscription.
Paypal bureaucracy can't do anything to refund this money.
So, I wouldn't say Freelancer are thieves, they are just petty thieves. Make sure you cancel your subscription through paypal so you're not charged automatically by them.

I hired a freelancer name aslanyanartak2 to build a website. I set of a milestone payment of $40 dollars to be release when half of site was completed and reviewed and I have yet to have that obligation met. The remainder would be paid upon site completion by aslanyanartak2 (The Freelancer) has failed to deliver completion of half of site for review and instead sent me to a web design sample link which only showed an basic word press theme that in no way reflects the requirements to receive milestone amount that he has the nerve to request to be released. Freelancer need to screen these fly by night Freelancers who represent their business in a negative light. I am very unhappy with this experience and most likely will never use Freelancer ever again

I am a freelance writer and I have subscribed to Freelancer.com. Today, they were crazy as I have received nearly 10 identical emails from them about the winner of a competition. Obviously they were sent by robots. Can you imagine how disturbing it is if someone sends you 10 emails within a few hours and the contents are exactly the same.
It has wasted much of my time reading their emails but I cannot block it as I am still working on this platform. Anyway, a very terrible experience and I hate it.

After I earned some money... they blocked my account and says that verify yourself by submitting either id card or passport or driving licence. I provided my id card... it was in urdu... they said they cant understand it... then I provided my passport... which was in english.. they are now saying me that provide another id card... any govt issues more than one id card?
Their policy says provide either passport or id card... I provided both... they dont say provide in english... anyhow my passport is in english and it works in entire world except freelancer.com. they are teasing me since a month... they want to kick me out empty hand...
As I read about the so many complaints of people who had lost their earnings from using freelancer.com, I feel relieved and feel lucky because compared to most of them I didn't lost so much, just a significant amount of time and a few $. anyways, I was hired by two employers; one suddenly cancelled after accepting the milestone and even had the guts to leave an obnoxious comment which I was charged $ for nothing, the other one I was able to finish the work but the employer didn't want to release my request for the milestone which prompted me to file a dispute and which of course I was charged $ for another project for nothing (I actually used the site to make some cash not to lose some). so my advice to the people who haven't experienced anything like this yet is "to trust no one" even freelancer.com, as a freelancer you have no security and for as long as they get the $ project fee, all they can do is send you e-mails with no concrete solution to your problem... well, for me I just closed my account and will never ever think of going back and go on with my life. I just hope someone will read this and learn a thing or two from my experience, that's all.
They are cheater, they didn't review the projects published correctly and here is what happened with me, as they deducted USD 350 from me after the employer paid to me, as they had a problem with projects kind, which they didn't close before starting to bid on. that wasn't sufficient for them, but also they deducted their commission from me and rejected to provide to me.

Agian freelancer.com is doing his best to prevent to give back my money. with a quick search I realized that almost no one is happy with freelancer.com becuase they create so many trobble when they should realise the money that you've earn.
5days a go my client pay the project fee that i've done for and according to the freelancer.com's notification which said it takes one or 2 days to recieve your money on your paypal I waited for 2 days. but after 5 days waiting nothing happend and as I contact with the freelancer.com's support desk they told me I should wait till they finish the review which was supposed to be finished in 2days not more. and they don't respond me any more after 5 days! they do what ever they want. they dont repect the deadline and users rights.
How can I take back my money from them?
Even on facebook page they closed their wall to prevent complains of users appear there. they are really irrisponisble.
I planned to write this letter to Freelancer.com but I could not because they have closed all doors of communication by suspending my account and demanding to pay me the amount they lost to a fraud due to their own foolishness. The letter intended to them is posted below.
“Sir,
I have communicated with you a number of times before. You were deceived by one of my former employer. As per my chat with your representative I learnt that he paid you through a stolen card. You could not catch him but, however, have recovered the money you lost on account of your own stupidity by withdrawing $10.00 (out of the $15.00 he owed you) I left in your custody.
I do not understand what sort of justice this is. I had paid $5.00 earlier while accepting this job as my commission to you. You withdrew by force $10.00 without any prior notice from my account as I mentioned above and now asking me to pay me further $5.00 to square off your remaining loss although I was no way involved with the issue between my employer and you. In simple words, you are trying to recover your loss from a contract you made earlier with a third party in my absence by snatching my money I kept with you in good faith and further have suspended my account for creating pressure to realize more.
You never tried to understand my situation. I made a bid for 30 articles but received order to write 5 articles only. I wrote them all to the employer’s satisfaction, paid $5.00 before as commission to you while accepting the job, paid $10.00 again because of your client’s default and you are still claiming another $5, 00 to square off your own loss by suspending my account. In simple words, although I am innocent but so far has been penalized by $15.00 for accepting and writing 5 articles, my account has been suspended and I am not able to bid and earn anymore and furthermore, you are asking to deposit a minimum of $10.00 more— but what was my fault, you entered yourself in to an agreement with a fraud in my absence?
You have barred me from logging in and bidding. In spite of all these, I wrote you before, I will still make up your loss but please allow me to make bid and earn.
Your representative told me before the suspension of account, as soon as you will be able to resolve the issue with your client you will return the money you have recovered from me in his absence. But will that ever happen?”
Horrible customer service. Requested help with a refund and got no reply to an email. Tried their online chat -- which they say is currently available -- and can't get any acknowledgement that anyone is even there. Numerous attempts, for extended periods of time. They have a Code of Conduct on their site for others to follow, but don't seem at all concerned about being ethical themselves.
BAD! BAD! BAD! Thieving off their users any way they can. Seriously? Suspend an account for being negative (-.24) in an account? 24 lousy pennies?! Yes, 24 cents?
Withdrawls to your bank account, paypal, etc, are cancelled for no reason? They try to blame PayPal like we are stupid and wont call PayPal? PayPal confirms there was never an attempt to deposit anything in that time frame? WOW...what a buncha crooks! Just gives them more time to sit on the money...Or, OR...maybe they dont even have the money to deposit?

Sad to say, freelancer go worse and worse and worse over time.
When it was getafreelancer.com it was a great site. I worked almost full time with it, then it becomes freelancer.com. Things start to change, it becomes unreliable to work with, flooded with fake projects, account suspended with no apparently reason, withdraws removed with no alert - you wait your money and OPS! you check the site and your request disappear! You contact the support, you get only copy-pasted answers. Monthly subscription increased in $ with LESS advantages than before.
Wish someone will open an alternative as clearly from when it goes big and change ownershipe it goes from the best freelancer site to the best SCAM freelancer site.

As a freelancer with 5.0 stars rating and almost 30 reviews I agree - freelancer.com's politics and terms are awfull for freelancer. I've been decieved by employers few times, losed money, time and reputation, but in terms of this site - it's normal and my fail only.

freelancer.com scamed for about $500
Freelancer.com scamed my $500. Freelancer.com blocked my account without any reason. Customer support has no activity. Few tickets in their support service just lost. No activity for 6 months! Online support did not respond.
Support knows that they are scam. And they continue to scam.
I expecting from freelancer.com detailed reason to block account, so long customer support, return my money back.

Basic process is okay, but the site is greedy and sets up its policies to punish you. Take my example. I use the service, do a job, its okay. I add two hundred dollars into the account, then my project stalls. So I leave the funds in freelancer. When I go back later to start a different project my account is empty. The funds have 'expired' somehow. I look at the statement of account, nothing. I suppose in the fine print they say if I don't log in for 6 months I'll lose the dough, or they'll deduct a monthly service charge or whatever. But at the end of the day, its a slimy, greedy, shonky mentality that drives the policies at freelancer.com.

I have been working with Freelancer.com for last 10 years. I am shocked and feeling devastated after I got my account suspended day before yesterday. I got the reason that 3 clients in the period of last 1.5 years have been unhappy. And that we were absconding. But its not the case ever. We have delivered atleast 10 + projects in last 1.5 years with very good reveiws from clients. And in fact out of these 3 clients 2 were given out of way helps at 20 + occasions and modules. 1 of the client case we can agree, that we were not able to match the frequency. And now even out of those 2 whom we supported more than 20 times post delivery, we are helping the 1 since yesterday with free modules and deliveries. And we are not charging too, because freelancer.com wants us to give free service to them.
We are writing and sending multiple messages to support and we are now not getting any response. We have NEVER SCAMMED money from any client and we are being treated like so badly, just because of those 3 issue, where our fault was about 0.00001 % or less. And infact our fault was we kept giving clients the space to keep asking us more and more and we gave them that.
Our whole team is so much feeling devastated that, we dont have words for this.
This is live partiality in front of our eyes. Our complaints are never considered right, even we are working for 10 years and never scammed or mis behaved with anyone.
In fact, we reported violations by clients and made couple of clients from outside to come to the site and give project there. We billed outside clients on Freelancer.com. Our Honesty and feel good towards Freelancer.com is hit & broke so badly by suspending account and on mere allegations and NO PROOFS of any wrong doing!
We always have looked for a safe environment. And had been feeling the same on Freelancer.com in last 10 years. But it seems the new management dont care for anything. And in fact never responds after giving the verdict!

Later we did the FREE works. And he got the site on his server.
I understand this led for wrong relation and he gave bad review, And we too gave the same with our end of story. And you will agree, Reviews are not visible before both of us leave it. So I posted by end of story.

1. For the project 5143293, the client Sasha, asked us to couple of more things not from the actual scope. To ensure what we did extra, we can send you the emails and screenshots. And we always try to ensure to get good reviews from clients.
For this only, we did extra works without asking any extra money. And in the FEAR to not get bad reviews.
But clients take advantages of this. And in this scenario we didnt get a rightful payment. Can you please advise, what should we do ?

As I mentioned in my last response, client has been extremely good. And we also liked working with him.
Our only concern is, he came after 9 months asking for some works. And that too in the same payment, in which delivery of the site was done.
Can you please advise, what should we do then? Give Free works whenever client comes back ?
We know repurtation of the marketplace is the top prioroity. And we are working for last 10 years here and have always tried to make our end clear.
But in this type of scenarios what will be your suggestion ?
We are then stuck from both the end ?
Also, WE ASK Support many a times, that if client is not paying money, what should we do ? Support Says, ( at many occasions ): We will advise not to do/delivery any works, if the payment is not secured.
Now, we are in middle of things:
1. We have to provide services to ensure we do great works to make them satisfied.
2. We always keep doing YES SIR for everything.
3. Taking advantage of this YES SIR attitude, they ensure to take atleast 5-10 extra modules. For which there is no guidance & undertanding from Freelancer.com, what to do ? And at the end if client wants, he can charge back money after delivery or make dispute. And our account gets suspended
4. This is the first time my account is suspended. Because I never have done any violations so far. Also, Please check I have always tried to help the community by reporting spams or contact information posting. Now I dont know what to do else!
I am very confused and disturbed.

First off, fiverr, Odesk and Elance are good not greedy alternatives. Just had to use in order to get paid by clients.
Everyone this is serious I am not mad or anything never had disagreement or anything with freelancer besides constant bombardment of upgrade membership requests. Just about basic principles and integrity companies should have on how to treat fellow human beings. This company looks at us like livestock. They got together and thought of every possible way to get money out of you like 10% of project commission wasnt enough. They are so greedy they try to get you to upgrade on almost every page for something that should be free.
#1 You have to wait 5-7 days to get your earned money sent to paypal which I never heard of a company doing. It is a punishment because you won't upgrade for an instant service = greedy trying to squeeze more money. Paypal is instant, make a button release money not like you do anything manual there.
#2 To prove your skills or language instead of a normal company asking you questions for free. You have to pay to take a test. = greedy
#3 They make you upgrade to withdraw money directly to you bank. Why? Never heard of a company doing that = greedy
more punishment for not wanting to give them more than 10% of your money.
#4 This is so evil I dont even want to visit Australia now because this company is from there.
#5 I never experienced so much greed from a company, can compare this company to car salesman. I honestly think it works great at finding business but I dont like fellow humans being looked at like cash. They are bringing you business.
Again I feel for everyone and have a high sense of respect and equality for fellow humans. They are not livestock to me. 10% should make anyone happy. If anything charge for quicker support. But dont punish people and make up little clever greedy things to get more money out of people. They earned the money you got 10% Now release the money like any normal company. It is easy coding that can be done free, instant and simple. No excuse to make people wait because they don't upgrade. That is punishing for not giving you more.
I never experienced so much greed and can compare greedlancer to racists in 1960s America. People already had to fight to be treated like humans. Freelancer is the only company on another level of greed I cannot find any competitors in that department it's pretty sad and disrespectful to everyone. What you do to others affects me. I cannot stand the greed it is overwhelming I had to create this post.
Serious everyone, how many people would actually take time to make a post about how greedy a company is and have never had any problem with them besides how they are money hungry? I really suggest Odesk and Elance.

They are greedy as fvck, I have worked for major companies both in U.S.A. and Japan, and while I can afford comfortably any of their services, I did found out that they are just trying to make money, and step on people that don't spend. I did not support the company because of that wrong greedy vision they have, too bad, I would have invested major capital in them.

So greedy you have a UK english test and a American english test like there is a huge difference.
Whats the deal with charging people to take exams to prove you speak english etc. This should be free it benefits YOUR WEBSITES SERVICE, you could develop a simple test. Why are you focused on fees so much? And first withdrawal takes $15-30 days or something ignorant like that? You also get charged $20 when awarded a project before you even get paid and can release money, Freelancer gets paid first so you are in debt before you even make money?
Also it says 10% commission but I was awarded a $200 project and I can only withdrawal $170?
People also have to upgrade to withdrawal their earned money faster on top of your 30%?
Elance is alternative everyone and fiverr. These guys are money hungry focused not on connecting people but consuming in all areas, makes you guys look very thirsty and lack integrity for fellow humans. People in third-world countries could really use a service like freelancer minus having to pay a week of their income to prove they can speak english when it could be done free.
You should not be charging people for that, I cannot stand it, all this so the owners could buy an extra Lamborghini.

Yes freelancer.com is greedy to the bone. They charge freelancers fees when an employer pays in a different currency, then the freelancer has to pay one conversion fee for paying the project fee and then another conversion fee when you want to withdraw money.
This can all be avoided by just having one currency like Dollars, but of course that would make them less money. They pray on small freelancers who are making a few bugs, it is an absolutely disgusting behavior.
They also charge freelancers a project fee even before the employer has paid any money to the site. Which means the freelancer is actually at risk of having to pay a project fee for a project that might never pay out.
I really hope an alternative come up very soon so we can get out of the greedy claw.

they stole $300 from my account
This web site is scam. I honestly completed work for one of the projects on their website and received $150 to my account balance on freelancer.com. But I couldn't withdraw the funds - they just cancelled withdrawal request. I contacted their support and they said that my customer issued chargeback and that's why they cannot give me my money. BUT MY WORK WAS ALREADY SENT TO THEIR CUSTOMER and he is using it FOR FREE NOW. I then started to work on another project for $200. I received payment for that project. But again failed to withdraw it. This time they said that they cannot process my withdrawal because my "customer has issues with his account". After I asked how issues with my customer's account relate to this if he already transferred payment to my account I did not receive any clear explanation. Their support is horrible. They always refer you to another department, team, etc. Why me as a customer should care about their company's internal structure? Why I cannot just receive clear explanation. So, the result is - they stole $300 from my account. I do not recommend work on freelancer.com under any circumstances. Avoid this scammers.

Yes, I think freelancer is turning into scams, I'm also suffering from the same issue, when I requested withdrawal my account was limited, firstly this was not a legal requirement, I have to trust them because my money have my money, even after submitting the documents as they have requested they now say that this is not according to our standard. I'm just curious about these paid replying machines from, are they bots or just paid ###, they don't reply on there support ticket that urgently that they reply here. I recommend not to deposit any money on freelancer account unless you don't need it because this once you press withdraw button your account will be limited.

After submitting job, and acceptance - the programmer was unable to work on the site, so stopped work - he then "hacked" the website so the functioning did not work. I raised 2 tickets with Freelancer.com - both unanswered.

I agree with all the reviews here that they do not care about the users, no consideration of your situation even though you have already explained to them countless of times, they wont listen to your request and gave you petty solution instead.

I am very disappointed.
I have been struggling to withdraw my earnings from Freelancer for two months now. Their system of creating a milestone is supposed to protect all parties involved as it holds the employer's deposit until the project is approved or cancelled. They strongly recommend it and I followed their guidelines. Everything went well the amount reflected in my Freelancer account but it took 2 months to get. I finally got an email in the last week stating that the employer's money never cleared and they have deducted it from my account, although they happily kept the commission they took on the project even though payment wasn't made. I think firstly they shouldn't have allowed me to believe that the deposit was ready and waiting if it hadn't yet in fact been deposited. I went ahead on the job knowing the milestone would protect me and that was clearly false information. Secondly when I try to sort it out with their support team they send you in circles and don't actually do a thing. Eventually I contacted the employer directly and he assures me that the full amount was debited from his account. How do I escalate this? How do I find out which side is the cause of the error? Freelancer's attitude is that it's not their problem and they're terribly sorry about that. $#@! They've honestly done nothing but cost me time and money. I do not recommend them at all. Their support team is weak and it feels like a scam to me.
Horrible customer service in general, extremely unprofessional and don't seem to care at all to who they're talking to (their customers). Specifically one person in particular: Kamil Chwiedosik who had sent threats saying that if $7, 000 wasn't sent over he would turn to slander to put a friend of mine down. The fact that the man was this desperate to do this move speaks volumes about the company itself. Disregards everyone and is an absolute trash company, not worth any decent man's time or money. Horrible prior experiences can assure this. Take it from us all skip this company and go find a better alternative.

I agree, of all the tech services I've used online Freelancer.com has by far the worst customer service. Here is why:
I put on a bid, and then spent 1 week to do due diligence on all the bids. I then find a decent freelancer, and when I try to pay the milestone their checkout system fails. This has happened 4-5 times earlier, and after a couple of emails front and back they can normally resolve it. This is not ideal, but I find it okay for a growing tech company.
Just after I solved the payment issue they closed my account without warning, and without any reason. I send them an email, and this is what I get back.:
"Thank you for contacting our Support Desk.
Your account has been closed by Freelancer.com administrator. We offer no recourse or rebuttal for this penalty.
It is stated in our Terms & Conditions that Freelancer.com may terminate the participation of a user if we think that they are creating problems, legal liabilities (actual or potential), infringing someone else's intellectual property rights, engaging in fraudulent, immoral or illegal activities, or for other similar reasons. As most people can tell this is just copy pasted to everyone that asked why their account is closed down. I sent another email and I get the same copy pasted answer again.
I decide to create a new account, and repost the project. After 3 days, they close my new account. Again, without any reason. I send them a 1, 5 page email to understand what I'm doing wrong, and I get this back:
"Thank you for contacting Freelancer.com Support.
We appreciate your feedback regarding our website and support. However, the closure of your account is due to the violation of our Terms and Conditions. Having said this, the option for us to lift the account closure is not available anymore."
This time, it's not a completely copy and pasted answer, but still another wage confusing answer. I find the last sentence interesting since I wrote them an email a couple of minutes after they canceled my account.
Since they cancel accounts left, and right without reason, and don't treat their customers with any respect, I'd recommend anyone reading this to use other services such as odesk.com, and elance.com.
I find freelancer.com a great example of a tech company that is growing too fast, and completely neglected the quality of their customer support.

They are real scammers. If a fraudulent employer has got money from unknown source to his freelancer account and uses that money to pay the freelancer then after some days, money is returned back to the employer's account and then to its actual source but worker is never paid. FREELANCER.COM is with no doubt at all - THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I EVER MET.
Here are the reasons:
1) Bad website, bad coding, many errors and issues with the website.
2) Unprofessional management and approach to their clients. For example, what kind of a low email text is that:
"If you don't respond, the offer will be automatically declined and another Freelancer will be hired. You're alyssaotoole's first choice so don't let your competitors take your job!"
It's like a teenager wrote that without even thinking. Or like a criminal who is telling you what to do and what is good for you.
Just a shame of a company. period.

All they do is read the TOS and send it to you without any conciduration to your situation or issue. It's litteraly like they are trying to d it on purpose and to fail you or to go againts you. And if I am writing this, believe me, it happend to me too many times. Maybe 90% of the times I contact their support, I am just amazed of the dusrespectful customer service they have to offer. A BIG SHAME.

So I used freelancer.com for a few projects successfully, and had opened 2 accounts. One for a bbusiness I was involved in and another for my personal use. I have paid all programmers on time for both accounts using different email (one for company) and different funding sources. This was evidently required by the company (would make no sense to mix my personal work with that of the company i work for)
At one point I made a complaint about the time it would take to retrieve some funds I mistakenly deposited in the wrong account. I did not mention I had 2 accounts.
As a results of my complaint, Freelancer.com locked both accounts, claimed some breach of terms and refused to refund the moneys deposited there. Please note that this money was deposited there for future payments! Both accounts had positive balances in the range of $800.
So lesson learned, they use crooked policy and long delays in making sure to steal funds from honest people.
Also please note that 95% of freelancers on this site are not what they claim. They are smarter street dudes that bid on projects, then run around their town (India mostly) and try to find someone to do the job. Most of the time it will be a waste of time. One successful project I had contracted seemed like a legit business, but the level of competence was very low for the employees and high for the boss. Of course you deal with the boss, who is quite competent but when time comes to deliver, it gets very bad.

I was a first time user of Freelancer after they purchased Scriptlance. I had transferred money into my account to pay a service provider. I clicked on transfer within the project, but it didn't appear to do anything. In actuality, every time I clicked on it, Freelancer would debit the money from Paypal again. They debited the money from my account 5 times! NO other place on the web has ZERO confirmation that someone is actually making a payment. Someone could accidentally click on the transfer button. This is a terrible payment method. I will NEVER use them again.

I have deposited a parcel with the APX cargo company in Rawalpindi on 2 November 2017.The manager of the company whose name is Pervaiz and his agent 'sname is Khawar.They asked me to pay them Pak Rs.7300 for which i got a receipt from them.They booked the parcel on the conditions that it will be delivered in Landon wit in 7 days to the consignee at his home and no extra charges will be levied except handling charges as per rules.Now the company has charged 30 pounds extra along with 40 pounds handling charges, the parcel has not yet been delivered after a laps of 33 days and the company is asking the consignee to collect it himself.The staff at the rawalpindi office is misbehaving with me and says that are not reponsible for the delivery.
Had I been aware of the mountains of complaints against Freelancer.Com, I would never have considered putting my project up for bid there. What I got was one scam artist after another...each with a slick huckster line ready to promote themselves as being ready to perform jobs which were clearly far and away above their heads. To date I have lost over $5, 000 on the scam artists which frequent this online scam system. Given the amount of money which I have personally lost, and the THOUSANDS of complaints against them which have been made by others, this company cannot be viewed as anything other than a dedicated online wire fraud system. I urge EVERYone to register a complaint against them with your State Attorney General and DEMAND an investigation...make them open their books and explain why they have consistently participated in online fraudulent activities in exchange for "a piece of the action". Let us never forget that every time these people accept money which was obtained from third party scammers, they became just as guilty as those who lie about their abilities for profit. Despite any "agreement" which they may try to hold up as protecting them from prosecution, there is NO contractual agreement in existence which will keep the owners of this fraud factory out of jail. Horrible customer service, group of frauds, it's seems they completely stolen my money in front of me, it's too hard to believe I have done all project successfully on time on budget even they given me 5.0 rating you can check my a/c (teknowgen), my total earning for 5 project is $ 157... I request for withdrawal $30 as my 1st testing withdrawal and successfully received in my paypal a/c, after that I request for rest of money status was ready but they denied my request, I complained to support team, they told me that there is some telephonic verification process pending from client side so we are helpless to process your withdrawal, I don't know what they are doing, any ways I have personally messaged my all client to do telephonic verification and they done except one client (project cost $35), it mean now I can withdrawal at least $80, but they are keen declining my withdrawal request... and now they are not even replying,... if any one reading my complain please note this is wrong way to get money, that's why you are keep loosing faith, improve your customer service, if telephonic verification is too important then why you not did this between project, why you haven't mailed me regarding this issue...

Elance also does phone verification. None of their client gets an account or a freelancer without the phone verification. Its Freelancer.com's responsibility to not let any un-verified client post a bid until his/her account requirements are 100% complete. Also in any situation the freelancer/service provided should be intimated for such issues before project start.

It's an awful website, please avoid registering on it. I have completed a job, uploaded the files through Freelancer.com's system, and the employer witheld payment, requesting further modifications from me, even though the job has been completed exactly the way we have agreed upon previously. Obviously, he wanted to get away with a freebie. And here comes the other part of the problem: I have contacted Freelancer.com's support, and they were completely unable to help; they said it has to be settled between employer and freelancer. In other words, this website is nothing more than a message board, only the take part of your money.

My account has been blocked for one week now after I tried to get my money back after being scammed by one of your "recommended" freelancers. I created a ticket, used the message board many times to try to get in touch with you during these last days, and I've been ignored. I also noticed how you block the live chat once you block an account. Rest assured I won't leave this case until I get my money back, even I have to seek legal help.
During the last 2 years, Freelancer has really gotten terrible at customer relations and support. Having almost 200 projects done, they are getting more and more clever in how they earn their money. For instance, the 100% money back guarantee contests that let you post a contest - if you do not choose a winner because there are no good entries, your money is not returned. It is taken. You have to apply for having the money back and that has a short limit. They have now updated their rules, but you have to search through their website in a bad-translated website to know this. Also, customer support takes many days to answer, if they answer at all.

Freelancer.com is scam, i done one project. The client was from dubai. He paid me $800. After three months, freelancer.com reverted those money and made my balance in - 800 usd. When i asked for reason, they said the client had used fraud credit card to pay money. And they blocked all my money.
Can you f**ing explain me what's my fault in this? It is freelancer.com's job to verify the credit card. Why should i suffer for someone else illegal's activity?
This is just a story made by freelancer.com to keep those money. They will only block the account if you have big money in your account and you have good reputation. So that you will pay back those money.

I am am one of the victim of Freelancer.com. First time user from UK i wish i could find this blog before paying money to them.
I did deposit 480 USD (They charged me 492 USD) to my account.
I was trying to create milestones for project,

I did not realised that it is on GBP then i did cancel it. All money came back to my GBP account. I converted them to my USD account.
When i deposited i had

Then i emailed them and Costumer Service was terrible. They just said they can not fix it and to give my money back they offered more than 2 weeks?

I just got hit with the currency exchange scam on freelancer.com
This is actually illegal in Australia and the EU.
At it's most basic level Freelancer.com is executing an illegal Dynamic Currency Exchange, which has already been ruled against many times most recently against Visa who were fined 18million AUD.
I suspect with freelancer they are actually operating an unlicensed foreign exchange brokerage to illegally profit (they exchange at upto 10% above the wholesale rate).
Would anyone be interested in finding out more and making a joint complaint to the regulator if I did the donkeywork?

Thy are only looking at new ways to steal our money. they invited some certificate things and charge us to take exams, if we dont we can not bid on many projects.
Thy have made different currencies, so he can steal more because of their illegal ridicules exchange rate.
I got charged for few projects, because buyer rewarded a project to me, and buyer changed his mind and never answered me!

I am so sorry reading your complaint. I am an illustrator and I worked on freelancer.com until recently. This company is without a doubt, a huge scam. Why? Well my friend, because the exact same thing happened to me. That being only ONE of the problems I have with them. Their exchange rate is illegal. They try to rob and scam people, both freelancers and clients (buyers). It's a shame. I have stopped working with them now. They allow scam freelancers to roam around, as they allow scam buyers. Their e-mail support and live support chat is absolutely ridiculous. They offer no help at all, and all they do is tell you there is nothing they can do. It is clear they are all trying to do one thing: scam you.
There are HUNDREDS of user complaints both from freelancers and buyers about their site. Just search on google. 90% of these involve freelancer.com STEALING their money, blocking accounts as soon as they break 200$, charging buyers TWICE and overall robbing people. And even worse, Freelancer.com just bought/acquired Vworker.com. They are a millionaire company, growing by stealing money, and getting away with it. I would personally take this into my own hands if I could, and sue their ###. But I am just a freelancer looking for work. I cannot afford that.

I just wanted to tell you my brief story so that other people now about these scammers. They suspended my account having 2000$ in milestone payments. The reason they did this was because I logged in some months ago using somebody else's computer. He also had a Freelancer.com account but they did not suspend his account because he had no money in it !
They are probably interested in stealing your money because that mistake I was talking about happened almost 6 months before my account got closed.
I hope I can get the money back so I can stay away from them in the future...

I was waiting for a $1,500 project withdraw. I could not withdraw it. I contacted customer service every day, for 1 month. They kept giving me copy and paste responses out of their employee handbook. They told me my account was violating their terms of service, but they couldn't tell me why. Next thing, they closed my account and took my $1,500.
I worked on Freelancer.com for over 2 years. Once you have $1,000 USD in your account, your account gets flagged. Once your account is flagged, you cannot withdraw the money from your account, this allows Freelancer.com to steal your money.
How do they steal your money? They will tell you that you violated their terms of service, but they won't tell you the reason of how you violated their terms of service!

Hi. I had an account on freelancer.com as a client. I wanted to add money to balance, my bank blocked transactions few times due to week transaction limitations. Freelancer.com asked me to verify my identity. I changed my first name to my father's name, it's our family business. I did it because I have disability, I couldn't take photos which freelancer.com wanted me to do, also my father is an owner of the e-card. When we gathered all documents needed to pass verification I got a message "Your account has been closed". I sent an email to freelancer support for explanation they answered me

Does anyone have a success story about getting their account reinstated and money back? I have a similar story... Did one job, client released about $1000 and gave me a 5 star review about 5 months back. Went to sign into my account to get the funds out to discover it had been cancelled and some unknown reason. I don’t understand how such illegal thieves site are exist in public.
Freelancer.com should have to get all moneys back to closed account’s owner even though they are not willing to restore accounts.

On 27th of January, suddenly I couldn't login to Freelancer.com and saw notification as “This account has been closed. Please contact support for more assistance.”
I couldn’t understand what I did wrong and violated the rules of terms and services.
So, I contacted your 3 Support Teams much times, you didn’t any explain what I did wrong and violated the rules of terms and services.
To be honest, I think it is professional and honest that you should have to explain what I did wrong and then close my account even if I do the violated actions again.
But you didn’t explain what I did wrong and closed my account without any alert and have been avoiding it even now.
Well, if you don’t want to explain any reason and no willing to restore my account, you should have to get back my money.
There is 372.04USD in my account, and it is all that I worked very hard and earned. You can know it is legal money if you contact all clients related to current balance. Your Freelancer.com always say that clients are always right and it is the best way to negotiate with clients and resolve the problem. So, contact clients related to current balance and give me back my money. All clients will prove my skills and honest work.
You don’t right to steal my legal money.
Please give me back my money 372USD.

Just got the reply from support:
"You accepted our Terms and Conditions when you signed up as a user on the Freelancer website. It has come to our attention that you have participated in activities that may harm the business operation or reputation of Freelancer. We have closed your account for this reason."
Don't know what "activities" they mean :-(
The main problem is that account balance contains over 2000$ and support dont want to get my money back. This is some kind of theft.

I am filling this complaint form and also address myself to other institutions regarding the fraud that the company freelancer.com which is registered in australia as: freelancer.com suite 501, 35 lime street sydney, new south wales australia 2000 acn [protected]. I have been awarded with a project and paid 1120 usd. the company freelancer.com refused to release the funds and asked for ids from me and from my employer. after all these were submitted they started to ask question after question regarding the projects in order to delay the payment and they refuse to handle the situation. I must say that different people asked questions to whom I have answered but they still refuse to release the payment. they have also requested photos of me holding my id although this was not stipulated in their terms and conditions. I am going to fill a report to the australia police and also in sweden. this
Company must be held responsible for what they do to people that uses their service.
Because of their action I cannot provide the job I have been awarded and also I have lost the business contact with the person who paid me.
I can sustain with evidence all of the above mentioned.

l would like to issue a complaint about the company Freelancer.com that is based in NSW, Australia.
Two times I have entered logo design competitions with outcomes that concern fraud.
The most recent instance, was for the Azurix logo competition (that finished over a month ago).
Anyone can go online to Freelancer.com and submit a competition, in this instance it was an Australian man who wanted a new logo for his IT company.
I submitted a design and he ranked it 1 of 2 ‘Top Entries’ in the competition (out of several hundred designs), he also ranked other people through give them lower amounts of ‘stars’ (like you do when you rate things in general).
The competition ended but he did not pick a winning entry. So Freelancer stated on the page:
‘The contest is now locked as the contest holder did not choose a winning entry within 14 days of the contest closing. As the contest is guaranteed, the prize will be automatically shared amongst the top entries in."
The Prize money was $500 AUD.
There was only 2 top entries, my design was 1 of them. There for Freelancer owed me $250 AUD. They only paid me $57.14 AUD, so they owe me $192.86 AUD. They also withheld the prize money ffor no given reason at all.
They said they have not paid me the full amount because they decided to pay money by their star system and not the ‘Top Entries’. Yet their website clearly states that they would give the money to the ‘Top Entries’.
From what I can gather, I believe that they are not distributing the prize money properly, but are keeping some of the money for themselves. Otherwise they should state who they are giving the money too and what designs. It’s total fraud!
The other complaint is towards having competitions without a guaranteed winner. I submitted a design amongst 100 other designers for the Mr Tailor Logo competition 6 weeks ago. Just before the competition ended, the competition holder ‘cancelled’ the competition, running off with over 100 different logo designs and not have paid a cent (except to Freelancer.com). The competition holder could have been from an agency and made direct profit from showing all those logos to a client. Fraud again!
If you Google, ‘Complaint Freelancer.com’ you will see hundreds of review by people having used the site, and being completely taken for a ride.
Now they have stolen another $16 from my account!

I am at Freelancer for last 5 years. Completed tens of project, and earned them a tons of money.
Last job was for $500 sum, where Freelancer immediately taken their fee of $45, and I did a job, and client just refuses to pay me.
I've contacted Freelancer stuff both on life chat, both on the ticket. Some said to me that all they can do is sent a mail to client to pay me. Some tells me if I have a proof that I did a job, I should send them. I did that (proof from skype that client agreed to pay me, and also a finished work), and nobody cared to even download that. They keep closing my tickets, like the matter is solved, and it's not.
This is the WORST support on any Freelancer site. Why they take fees if they can't protect me?
I am willing to join lawsuit with Biveide, he can just leave a contact here, and appart from lawsuit I am willing to start some sort of campaign to warn people about this site.

i agree with the Biveide, freelancer.com is the one of the worst site for freelancers as well, if you need a job you have to invest 5% of money advance to freelancer.com with out worrying about employer will pay or not. if you are awarded 5000 USD project, you have to pay 250 USD to freelancer.com at beginning of job if employer cancels the project in next hours, you lost your 250 USD. it is a most stupid concept i never seen on other sites, please please please avoid using freelancer.com. I am a employer/Freelancer in freelancer.com with good reputation. if i get any project more then 1000 USD i will call my client to Elance. and Freelance.com introduced new fees extra 5% while you bid, the only good news is, this will be deduced once employer pays
Hi Biveide. It is unfortunate you feel this way about our site. It is possible to get your milestone payment back through our Dispute Resolution Service. You won't need to pay for the 1st stage of the arbitration. If the freelancer doesn't respond to the Dispute within 4 days, you'll get the milestone payment immediately. You will only need to pay the fee if your dispute goes into the final stages of the arbitration.
You can also get a project fee refund. You can file a ticket and ask for a project fee refund for the uncompleted project. Our Support Teams will work on the request and do their own investigation. Once they’ve established that the freelancer doesn't want to continue with the project, we will release the refund. We would really like to help.
