I went to my local Food Lion store in Dunn, NC on Thanksgiving. As I approached the checkout counter in lane #2, there was only one customer in front of me. When this one customer had paid for their groceries and was walking away, I approached the counter. As I approached the cashier in lane#2, (black female, with dark red hair) she simply turned and walked away, then she walked over to another female employee (white female, young, short, blonde) who seemed to be some lower- level manager, whispered into her ear, then walked into the self-checkout area. As the black female cashier from lane#2 walked into the self-checkout area, she whispered into the ear of a white male employee (young, dark hair), while pointing in my direction. I was left standing there and not one Food Lion employee offered assistance, nor took any corrective action toward the black female that left her checkout counter. I then walked down to the entrance into the self-checkout area, paid for my groceries there, walked out to my truck, placed my groceries in my truck and walked back into the store to speak with the young, short, blonde, female manager. The young female manager had already been walking to the rear of the store when I walked in and I could not gain her attention, before she walked int the rear (warehouse) area of the store. I then returned to lane#2 in an attempt to speak with the black female cashier that had walked away from me a few minutes before. The black female cashier was now back at the checkout counter of lane#2 and engaged in a cheerful conversation with an elderly white female, being about 66 inches tall, 190 pounds, with white hair, dressed in bright green stretch pants with a short sleeve white blouse with a plunging neckline. I waited for the elderly white female to finish with her purchase and walked away. I then stood there about 8 feet from the entrance end of the checkout counter and waited for the black female cashier to make eye contact with me, but she wouldn't. At this time, I returned to my truck and drove home, to my house in Dunn where I have lived and paid taxes for 39 years.

I am an honorably retired US Army First Sergeant, having served in the 82ND ABN DIV, the Special Forces (SFQC 3-83) and am a Delta Force (OTC-18) combat veteran Operator / Sniper. I am also a disabled veteran, with a service-connected disability rating of 100 P+T for a required kidney transplant. I have never been arrested and have not even received a speeding ticket in 20-25 years. I received sole custody of my two sons in 2012 from a female judge, and raised them myself, both of them now having good jobs and owning their own homes, with the oldest being married. I have very good credit and have been a long-time customer of this particular store since it opened and have actually interacted with this particular black female cashier and young white assistant manager, many times in the past, without incident or disagreement. I will say that this particular store has been poorly managed for a very long time, with something desperately needing to be done about it.

Recommendation: Shop at the Food Lion in Lillington, about 12 miles west, or shop at Walmart or the IGA.
