Fitness 19 review: Difficulty canceling membership

I called fitness 19 and told them that I want to cancel my membership as my year is up in October. They told me that I would have to pay the membership for October if I wanted to cancel but I don’t understand why I have to pay October if I paid October when I signed up !?
