Fifth Third Bank / 53.com harassing creditor phone calls

They are harassers. Our car payment was late by two days and they phoned us 10 times over a less than two-day period. Their representatives are either from India or the Phillipines and are rude and demeaning. I guess that is why their CEO rakes in 10 million a year. Cheap labor to harass their customers from across the ocean. Thank God our car is almost paid off. Avoid like the plague.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com ineptitude and rudeness

I have a mortgage with Fifth Third Bank (5/3 Bank). I wanted to pay the principal down to the point where I could get rid of the PMI (personal mortgage insurance). I inquired with 5/3 as to how much I would need to pay (ie: at what amount of remaining principal) to make that happen. They told me it would be 80% of the amount I borrowed …then, on a second call to verify that, No, wait a minute, it’s 80% of the purchase price …so, on a third call verify, No, it’s 80% of the assessed value of the home. On a fourth call, I was assured that the last one was correct, 80% of the assessed value. Just to be sure, I verified that last number a third time; yes, that was correct.
I made an electronic draft from my usual checking/savings bank (thank God, 5/3 only manages my mortgage, not my money!) to 5/3 for the amount they had verified three times. First, they lost my money for several days. Then they found it and when I called to request a removal of PMI (as I had been instructed to do after the payment cleared), they said it needed to be in writing. OK, I wrote a letter requesting the PMI to be removed …and then it was denied. Seems I’d need to pay twice as much as I paid because, No, it’s not 80% of the assessed value after all …it’s 80% of the purchase price. (or is it? They don’t seem to be too sure about anything) So, now I’ve spent the money I could have used for other projects if I’d known that it wouldn’t achieve what I was trying to do …and I’d have to drain my savings and have no spare money for anything else in order to complete the pay-down.
When I complained to 5/3 about this, they essentially blew me off. One underling passed me to the next underling, all claiming “this is standard policy”; several inferred that it was my own fault. When I asked to speak to someone higher up, I got a low-level manager (the supervisor of the underlings who answer the phone) who claimed he was the highest person in the 5/3 corporation for dealing with these kind of complaints. He essentially inferred that, yes, it was my own fault …and when I pressed him about customer dissatisfaction he hung up on me.
I don’t know which issue Kevin Kabat (5/3 CEO) and his associates should be concerned about: the fact that their underlings are so inept and rude …or the fact that they claim to customers that they are the highest people in the 5/3 corporate ladder. BEWARE: do not let Fifth Third Bank manage your money or your mortgage. Wake up Fifth Third, the world is angry about people who do business like you.

Had I known what a nightmare dealing with 5/3 would be, I would have never accepted their offer to finance my auto. They provide no email statements, no email payment-due notifications, no email payment-made confirmations and their website is as hard to sign in to as any I have seen since the days of 56k modems! In short, they have the worst online experience I could possible imagine among all banking institutions in the US. I have tried to ask for help via their telephone customer support and have never heard "no" or "sorry, we can't do that" more often than with this company. Funny thing is, I signed up for online payment system thinking I would receive the standard online banking experience. I wish now I had opted for snail mail! To one and all - steer clear of 5/3!

I am guessing because of all of this I am going through a slightly more refined and convoluted system. It seems that have sharpened the requirements now; the LTV ration has to be 80% of the appraised value or contract sales price, whichever is less. I was off by .49%, 80.49%, so I made the necessary principal payment and now the LTV ratio is roughly 79%. But in the original cancellation request sent they informed that they couldn't use the original appraisal value or the purchase price alone, I would have to get a new appraisal or BPO (broker price opinion) and even then the request could still be declined. Best of luck to the rest that try.

I'm noticing some strange behaviors from 5/3 bank. Firstly, the pmi amount shown in my amortization schedules is about half of what they are actually charging me. So not sure where that extra money has been going but we are certainly going to be under the 80% of appraised value next month. So the way it is supposed to work is at 80% of your original appraised value you can request pmi to be removed. At 78% they are required to remove pmi. I'm calling Monday, but based on what I've read in this feed, I'm not looking forward to dealing with these shady characters.

I tried to get a lower interest rate for my home. 30 year down to 20 years. They re-apprised the house and low balled it to the point that I owed more then I was borrowing. I had it done by 5/3 2 years earlier and it apprised 71, 000 higher. I had it re-apprised by a different bank 3 weeks later and it was only 30, 000 lower. I would stay away from 5/3 banks. They do not look out for there customers...

I am hoping that I have a slightly better outcome, as I wish to get rid of our PMI soon. Banks seem to make [censor] confusing on purpose and give their employees a lot responsibility with no real power to accomplish anything.

omg, i am almost in the same boat is you. I am trying to figure if it is the assesed value, closing value, or purchase price. There giving me several numbers and, now i am doubting even paying on the principal ... thanks for the info.

told you when this is fixed I owe you 150.00 plus 33.00 and not this figure I will go in and pay the 183.00 in full account thats been stopped and closed per you and i can not view my account or get any of my info, seems you just keep over accessing excessive fees. Arrangements were made and discussed with manager prior to return check. I no longer will be doing business with you because over you excessive charging and after arrangements were made...

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com will not honor own appraisal

Applied for a mortgage with them and paid for an appraisal. They refused to honor the appraisal (by one of their approved appraisers) and said my home was valued at 30% less than the appraisal, and in a declining market, which is not borne out by average home values in my area for the last 6-9 months.

I am self employed, and am convinced that they low balled the appraisal because they won't loan to a self employed individual. This is discriminatory, but they got away with it by ditching their own appraisal. This from a bank that received $3, 408, 000, 000 in Tarp funds!

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com unorganized, poor customer service

All I can say is WOW. Every time I have to deal with this bank I want to pull my hair out. I will not go into detail because I'd have to write a book! They DO NOT CARE about their customers. If I said that they were unorganized, I'd be giving them a compliment. I've had so many errors with this bank it makes me sick. I went to Byron Bank and it was like a breath of fresh air! They actually care about you and are organized with your financial info (isn't that what banks are supposed to do?).

I think every employee needs to realize that the reason they have a job is due to THEIR CUSTOMERS. Start treating your customers like they are humans, and then treat them the way you would like to be treated, and then consider them better than you (the golden rule in banking is invaluable!).

I am so surprised that this cmpany is still in business. STAY AWAY FROM 5/3 BANK!

If 5/3 ever goes under, everyone is invited to my house for a party!

5/3 GET A CLUE!

Right now Girlfriend. 5/3 Bank is rated in the top ten of the most corrupt banks. 5/3 forged my name on a loan modification, raising my interest rates in 2003. First, I never entered into any loan mod to raise my interest rates. Second, you think they would have gotten my first name spelled right, if singing my name. Used my maiden name when I was already married for several years. This bank is down right dirty and corrupt. The Federal government needs to do a full investigation into this bank. Trott and Trott is no better, as they are the lawfirm who foreclosed on my home illegally. Gave me the run around about anything I asked. Their attorney was telling me I had PMI insurance. Never had any PMI insurance. Then all of a sudden they reimbursed me for the overcharge by sending me a check. There was one lie after another. Funny thing, I asked about a charge on there in Oct. Yes, that was for winterizing my home. I stilled lived in the home so, could not have winterized it. BOOM... Oh, we refunded you. The refund only showed up after they knew I was in my home. The worst bank on earth with all their lies. I never had been lied to sooo many times in all my life. We need to actively seek to get 5/3 out of business!

Fifth Third Bank is stealing from us. We had a car loan from a GM dealer and 5 3 would not let us pay it off. They refused to give us the account number so that we could pay it off. Before the first payment was due, we paid over 95% of the loan amount. this was the amount they told us was due. They next harassed us on Saturday, threatening us that we were in default. We finally overpaid the loan.
We also had an extended warranty which we immediately cancelled three days after getting the loan giving us a total refund. This was part of the loan we had with 5 3 bank. They were to refund this warranty cost in full. We never received the refund check. After many calls to 5 3 bank in which they said a check was sent, they told us another check was being sent. We received a check dated the day after that last call. We deposited it in our local bank. Two weeks later, 5 3 bank stopped payment on the check effectively stealing money out of our account. Not only that, our bank charged us a fee for this. We have been calling 5 3 bank for a week and they keep giving is the run around. This is common theft. They have no intention of giving us our money back. They will not let us talk to anyone but a telephone screener.
My advice is to run as fast as you can from Fifth Third Bank. If not, you will regret it.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com removing cash deposit from account

My parents, both seniors and on a fixed income bank at 5/3 Bank. My sister who lives in Ohio went into 5/3 Bank and made a $300 cash deposit into my parents checking account yesterday. My mom checked her account via phone and the deposit was there yesterday afternoon. This morning my mom checked her account again and the money is gone! She called 5/3 customer service with the confirmation # from the deposit, first they said the deposit wasn't showing up at all. Then, they told her the teller did not turn in her receipts and the end of the night, so they just took the money out of their account! They then told my mom they couldn't tell her exactly when the money would be back in her account! A CASH deposit that they took out of her account and they cannot tell her when or why it cannot be IMMEDIATELY returned to her account? This is ridiculous and TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

This very same thing happened to me at another bank and I took my deposit ticket into the bank and they re-deposited the money in my account THAT DAY!

There is nothing you can really do or write to coax these behemoths into acting responsibly. My advice is not the threaten to sue -- just sue them. Fifth Third Bank is headquartered in Cincinnati, OH. If they do business in your state, however, then you can sue them in small claims court where you live. Don't fret over it. Just look up your small claims court information on your local city/county court and find out how to go about filing a small claims lawsuit against them. They're not going to send a corporate lawyer to Olathe to represent the bank. Collect all of the receipts for the OUTRAGEOUS charges they are trying to penalize you with, explain what happened in a letter to the judge/court, and file the claim. Make sure you request Fifth Third Bank to pay the small claims court fee too. This, ladies and gentlemen, is a means to stop these monstrosities from stealing from us. I've done it with Goodyear, Bank of America, and Verizon. I have received a check each time. The judges know these fees are absolutely RIDICULOUS too. Don't threaten to sue them; just do it.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com excessive and improper overdraft fees

I am filing a complaint for poor customer service and excessive and improper overdraft fees. Myself and my family members will be closing our accounts and are soon to be ex-customers. I was charged overdraft fees totaling $156. This started due to a debit of $100.21 that a merchant charged my account in error. This debit was later reversed by the merchant. On 12/22 PENDING debits were taken out of my available balance leading to an overdraft of $8 and a $37 overdraft fee. On 12/22 these debits were then taken out of my account and I was charged an additional three overdraft fees. Not only was I charged total overdraft fess of $156 for a total shortage of $15.49 but I was charged an overdraft fee for each of the four items that came through on 12/22 and 12/23 even though my available balance on 12/22/09 was enough to cover any two of these items without resulting in any overdraft. Although I was not charged twice for the two debits that were pending on 12/22 they were subtracted from my available balance both on 12/22 and 12/23 resulting in additional and excessive overdraft fees. On 1/04/2010 I met with mng Lara at the Fifth Third Bank in Englewood, FL. I submitted evidence of above and nothing was done to resolve this complaint. I am owed $117 for return of excessive and improper overdraft fees as well as an apology.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com bad credit rating

I have been deny a car loan because I had a bad credit rating. I was reported 3 negatives from the fifth third bank. I have not had a loan from your bank for the past five years and do not remember not paying a payment late. I am 71 years old and this is the first time I have been turndown for any loan-it is a little embrassing when they tell you a have a bad credit rating. I would ask you to make contact with the credit rating group and have negatives removed.

If it's not in by the due date, it's late. Creditors (especially publicly traded) are monitored and obligated to report losses and delinquency at specific intervals, a 30 day delinquency is not a joke.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com complaint gets personal

i've had an account with 5/3 bank for about 3 years now... and would definately NOT recommend this bank to anyone, ever.
i recently reviewed my account, suspicious of all of the fees they had charged me and found that they had been rearranging all of my transactions - to rack up fees like crazy! and at one point i called the corporate office to complain about a particular banking center for refusing to listen to me and take my inquiries or complaints seriously... they are leagalized thieves... it is disgusting, and i went to talk to the customer service manager about my account and her assistant kept blocking my attempts... and said that anything i need to know she would just say the same thing as her manager so there was no point in speaking with her manager - she would be the one help us... well, all in all, i complained - the info got back to that particular bank and the customer service manager personally wrote me a letter saying that she was going to close my account... for "unacceptable banking practices." thanks, i'm thinking... and that the their banking practices are absolutely unacceptable...
1... i have a positive balance
2... i don't leave much in my account because it is a free checking - and i only use cash now so they can't rob fees from me
3... she told me she froze my account, yet is it not frozen
4... that they will close it in 10 days
5... and this is the kicker - THAT I NEED TO MAKE A DEPOSIT!?

all of this was simply a personal attack on me - the customer, for complaining and rightly so
- and none of it made any sense - "unacceptable banking practice"
"make a deposit" so they can close my account? what is that? according to who? and i'm a customer? i can't complain for fight for my money if i think something is wrong... ?
what a joke. you had better bet that the BBB, and her boss will definately be getting a copy of that ignorant, poorly executed, wannabe threatening letter...

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com code of ethics violations

Fifth Third Bank of St. Johns has a mortgage representative who (with the pursuation of another employee) drafted a letter that was written for a court proceeding. This letter was complete with typing errors, wrong names, and a complete list of what another company's (NOT the bank's) procedures are. (In other words, she acted as a representative of a business she was not authorized to represent.)

The scary parts:
1. The bank continues to employ both the author of the letter and the teller who asked for the letter to be written. 2. The bank does not recognize (or they don't care - or both) that they have two employees who are so (incompetant in letter writing and under-handed in dealing with financial info/bank ethics). 3. This could happen to YOU.

Fifth Third Bank's President (in Ohio), their consumer rep, and the branch manager were made aware of these violations, yet only spoke to the employee or slapped her hands. In fact the consumer rep at first said that letter I received was not a form letter and less than a minute later, said that it was. He went on to say that the matter was "under investigation". It's amazing that he patronized me to the point of thinking that I'd believe him.

The Ovid, MI teller accessed financial info that benefitted only her. (She ended up marrying the customer whose porfolio was adequate enough for her!) Using a customer's financial information for personal gain is very clearly a violation. She then requested that the mortgage rep draft a letter for a court proceeding. This letter was accepted by the court and an EMAIL from the actual company was rejected by the court. This mortgage rep's letter caused me to lose my rights to property that I co-owned.

The Code of Ethics, a document that is filed with the S.E.C. states that such indiscretions are grounds for removal. Fifth Third Bank continues to allow these employees to handle YOUR money and financial business.

i too am now a victim of this banks unethics. I was suggested to activate overage protection, while on a call with a rep after it was determined that a disputed transaction resolution could not be reached that day. I told her since this is a bank issue, I WOULD NOT subject myself to additional fees. This rep stated, oh, you will not be subject to ANY fees, and I became gladdened, and then proceeded with acceptance of this i was "eligible" for. She conferenced in the terms and conditions to be accepted, and confirmed it was activated after i had done this. I asked do i go to the atm, or can i use the card...she stated i could use either.

I have had my first deposit go in today, and noticed it is not covering only purchases, but overdraft fees... over $1200 in overdraft fees. Of course, they are blaming me for this... stating they mailed out a subsequent letter... I saw the letter but it did not reference my call stating i would receive no fees, so i thought this was a confirmation letter of overage protection!

theyre not willing to reverse these fees so essentially theyre telling me, "we gotcha!".. The grief this has caused me has me up right now, 3am, with a travel arrangement for this weeknd unable to prepare for. they have basically stolen my money! I have filed a complaint with consumer financial, after 5 hours on the phone with these $#@!. tomorrow this will be sent to a lawyer, or, i may even take them to court myself and pay myself a lawyer fee, as well as for my time, and for this unreasonable injust. I agree. this bank is worst than a thief, while being a muse as a professional, financial institutions.

I have a total of 5 active checking and savings accounts first started many years ago, so i generally complete transfers from those other accounts to avoid overdraft fees. this is the only account today with such totals. never any request or credits hacing been needed on any of these accounts. theyre all funded with electronic deposits frequently, so i was robbed of consideration of alternate options to avoid overdraft fees, by being advised there were no fees. I WOULD HAVE DONE TRANSFERS, instead of using a card with fees for $8 and $9 transactions.just a flat out lie.

rep told me, youre usually fiscally responsible... u have no fees n the past.. this is a slap in my face since she can state this as if i am 'no longer fiscally responsible"... only after having asked all the right questions, while speaking with their representative that suggested overdraft coverage with no fees ...but WAS CHARGED over $1200 for this. lunacy!

Bank with this company. The bank charges customers $37 for overdraft fees on a check plus another $36 to return the item. And if that just don't beat all...in order to cancel with this bank and their unethical business practices and ways, 53 bank charges customers $25 to close accounts with their bank. I'm not surprised at all and believe 95% off the horror stories about this "Free Checking" Crap that this 53rd bank claims they have! They are the most incompetent "Professional Bunch" of people I've come across in my 50 years of living! I started a bank account with them in July of this year because the company I work for has their business and payrole there, and was switching to Direct deposit. That was the beginning of the most disfunctional bunch of people I've ever met, customer service, local branch, etc. It started when I was charged 7 over draft fees on a debit card only, in the "pending status" when we all know that the funds are taking from the available balance immediately, but because they were in the pending status and one overdraft accured I was charged $198.00, and was told with a giggle that I was being charged another $132.00 at the end of the day and didn't know what for and wasn't even giving the opportunity to make it right!?!? After three months of arguing that the funds were there in (black and white) one of the overtures ($33.00) was put back with a note attached by one of the only people in the Cincy customer service center that obviously knew that something wasn't right. This person also E-mail her supervisor about this and I'm waiting for a responce. Also, I'm just getting started, Recently I wrote a check for $125.00 to a meat vendor on the 27th of October and the check was electronically withdrawn from my account 3 days later...O.K. no big deal...? Wrong the bank paid the check again 16 days later! I brought this to their attention...(thats funny) and showed that it was the same check number and the name on the check with the same date it was wrote (keep that in mind), of coarse my account was $3.98 over by of the day because of this and guess what...Yep, overdraft fees out the yeng-yang! I keep the minimun in this account because of their borderline illegal, and unethical business tactics. Of coarse I had to take off work, another $250.00 down the drain, to try to get this reversed and was told we'll (local bank) investigate it(?) and monitor your account and call you back each day and let you know what we can do for you...waiting, waiting, waiting. of coarse no reply! So I called the customer disrespect service and was actually help by the formentioned person I spoke about earlier and the fees were reversed along with one that was applied in July. Suddenly while at work I strangely get a call form my local bank in Huber Heights, Ohio, who said that they would monitor my account and call me everyday saying "well I got the overdrafts taking off because of the double cashed check, I was told by this person at the local bank that because it was longer than 30 days on the incident in July that nothing could be done about that?" not true...well needless to say I let her have it and she was actually left speechless. I in fact took care of it myself with the forementioned person, Her name is Vicki, and called her on it! She didn't know what to say and my next adventure is dealing with the check that was cashed twice...it was probably my fault for sending the same check # twice (what the @!#*)according to the last customer disrespect service non-english person I taked to ? Keep ya posted ! (Is this the good stuff you go through with the great free checking bank they claim to be ?) My wife and I can't purchase a damn turkey or I can't buy a new pair of work boots because we are so gun-shy to spend a dollar...! Anyone got a good attorney or a class action law suit I can jump on? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...?

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com fraudulent bank

I was frauded by an on-line business called Grants One Day. I saw the problem right away in checking my account. I disputed the the charges against my account. The Bank waived some fees and placed the money back. They informed me at that time that The other company had up to 30 days to respond.

We heard nothing back from them. Nothing in writting ever came to my house. Then more than 60days past the original date they came back in and took the money out again putting my account in the red with service charges to which they were unwilling to drop.

They bold faced lied to us so many times it didn't matter which bank branch we went to everyone of them lied to us. We then got letters in the mail only after we called, and came in. They were post dated on the inside to protect them- selves, but the outside of the envelope it had the date that we called them to complain on it.

We closed out that account paying the fees that they punished us with and currently owe them nothing and we have gone to another bank to do our business We have since then heard other horror stories from our friends about this bank. Please I urged you if you are looking for another bank to do business with don't choose this one.

Banks cheat you cannot do any thing, they cheat for their lords make them rich when loose money public money save them to let them cheat public for ever.When profit only for few, otherwise curse for all. CITIZENS BANK cheated me we need a credit score for banks so that they cannot blackmail customers

We have been account holders for over 25 years (Old Kent to 5/3). An electronic check in the amount of $850 was cleared on our account. This check is so painfully and obviously fraudulent. We signed all of the various paperwork needed the day after it hit our
account. We were assured it would not happen again and told it wasn't necessary to close the account. That made us uneasy. Now,
it has been over a business month now and we are still waiting for 5/3 to return our money. True, nothing else has hit the account, but the possibility still exists that it could happen again. All we get is lipservice! Yes, the paperwork states 30-120 days for investigation, but even a ### should have been able to sort this out by now. There is no contacting upper management with this bank. A sad turn of events. We have closed our long-term account and have taken our deposits elsewhere.

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com the way they treat consumers

My husband purchased a truck and Fifth Third was the lender. After numerous clutch replacements, which cost over $600 each replacement, my husband called and told the bank to come get it. We never heard a thing from Fifth Third or Autovest, LLC until he was served a civil warrant. My husband went to court no payment arragemnets were made in front of the judge, but the lawyer said he would get back to him on that. He never heard from the lawyer and when he tied to contact him the lawyer was never in the office. About two months later my husband receives notice that they will be garnishing his wages. Keep in mind the lawyer knew my husband was and is the only source of income for our family, but chose go ahead with Autovests, LLC recommendation of ganishing 25% of his pay for each pay period. Living expenses are not cheap in the area of Tennessee we live, andt hey began taking $200 out of each pay period to get the $2400 that was left owed on the truck. We later found out they wanted the entire $2400 within six months. I guess they want us all to go broke or homeless and apparent they do not care whether your children get fed. After three months of trying to get them to lower the payment amount they are garnishing we have finally succeeded. Thank God for small miracles.

After being with them for about 7 years, I still received horrible customer service. Fifth Third Bank / 53.com fifth third bank complaint

I had been a customer of Fifth Third Bank for approximately 8 years. The problem started when they froze my home equity loan. I had access to $50K in cash until and was ready to make an real estate purchase. I spoke with the lender at Firth Third and they things were set but then I got a letter in the mail saying my account had been frozen. Not such a big deal because a lot of banks were doing it at that time and I could simply switch to a new bank. However, they would not refund the $65 annual fee associated with the account I had just paid on the account. They would not even pro rate it or anything.

Subsequently, I bounced a check inside an account where my home equity loan was the back up funds. Normally, if this would have happened it would have cost me $9.00 in a one time per transaction. Well I forgot that the account was closed and they ended up charging me $350+ dollars in fees. I verbally agreed to pay the two $39 charges and the two $9.00 overdraft charges and asked them to reconsider the remaining $260 in fees. I thought this was a reasonable request but the branch manager just let me know they would give me a $66 refund on the fees but that is all they could do.

I told him to keep his $66. I was going to close my account and inform as many people as I could about the situation.

If you stay with this bank or join this bank be prepared to be treated in a similar manner.

This bank totally sucks. They lie to get your business, then raise rates, renig on promises to keep home equity line open, and their $300 home re-mortgage? What a joke! Ends up costing three times as much! All promises of saving you lots of money - ends up costing you much more with limited borowing & expensive fees. Corrupt!

Fifth Third Bank / 53.com lies, lowers credit

Within two weeks, 53 forced us to turn away our business with them after being a customer for over 20 years.

1). They were suppose to close a checking account which I faxed documentation into upon request, they never closed the account down as they said they would, and people kept overdrafting it.

2). I put an increase in my credit card limit, instead they thought I put a request to decrease it, and REFUSE to increase it again for another 6 months.

There are so many other banks out there, so my suggestion is go to another bank before it's to late.

20 years, and this is the respect I get.

This bank is a joke! Corporate office has some of the worst customer service I've ever come across. They treat you as if you're callinG about THEIR money, not yours. I've had 5 day holds on my checks turn to 9 days with no explanation or warning! I have overdraft, but twice now, I've been over charged for overdraft, while theres money in my savings! Just loGGed into my account to find out I'm beinG charGed aGain, not only with money in my savings, but now theres also money in my checkinG too. Can't explain that? well, neither could the snob at corporate. I reGret ever dealinG with these corporate theives. Theres a place for people this deceitful, riGht alonG side of g.w. bush.

Fifth Third Bank is stealing from us. We had a car loan from a GM dealer and 5 3 would not let us pay it off. They refused to give us the account number so that we could pay it off. Before the first payment was due, we paid over 95% of the loan amount. this was the amount they told us was due. They next harassed us on Saturday, threatening us that we were in default. We finally overpaid the loan.
We also had an extended warranty which we immediately cancelled three days after getting the loan giving us a total refund. This was part of the loan we had with 5 3 bank. They were to refund this warranty cost in full. We never received the refund check. After many calls to 5 3 bank in which they said a check was sent, they told us another check was being sent. We received a check dated the day after that last call. We deposited it in our local bank. Two weeks later, 5 3 bank stopped payment on the check effectively stealing money out of our account. Not only that, our bank charged us a fee for this. We have been calling 5 3 bank for a week and they keep giving is the run around. This is common theft. They have no intention of giving us our money back. They will not let us talk to anyone but a telephone screener.
My advice is to run as fast as you can from Fifth Third Bank. If not, you will regret it.

I agree that this is a "bad" bank. After eight years of trying to get 5/3 Bank to call my office during business hours I received yet another call at home at 7:30 in the evening. It seems that the culture at 5/3 is very much last-century. In this day of fast internet communication poor customer treatment and policy I wonder how the bank keeps it's doors open. Our folder of issues and complaints about 5/3 is thick. This bank's administration appears close-minded and inaccessible. We only bank with them because our children are in college and branches are close-by and because we negotiated a loan with them years ago for the business. We look forward to cutting ties with this bank as soon as we are able.
