I am filing a formal complaint regarding the excessive premiums charged on my auto and travel‑trailer policies, as well as the complete lack of meaningful assistance when I raised concerns about these rates. For three vehicles and one travel trailer in Georgia, I was being charged $7,944 annually, even after the supposed 14% employee discount offered thru my husband's employer. These premiums are extraordinarily high by any reasonable industry standard.
When I contacted Farmers to question these rates, I was told the premiums were “very good” and the policies were “really good policies.” This response was dismissive and failed to address the issue. I made it clear that other major insurers were offering substantially lower premiums for equal or better coverage including zero deductible for comprehensive and $250 collision deductible. Despite this, no effort was made to offer competitive pricing or retain us as customers. The only suggestion provided was that we take a four‑hour online driver‑safety course, which would have resulted in only a minimal reduction and would not have meaningfully changed the monthly cost of $662. This was not a serious or reasonable attempt to resolve the problem.
Given the lack of options and the unwillingness to provide competitive rates, I requested cancellation of all policies effective May 1st. Within the hour, I secured coverage with State Farm for the same vehicles and camper with better full coverage and lower or $0 deductibles — for a total annual cost of $3566. This dramatic difference makes it clear that Farmers’ pricing was neither competitive nor reasonable. The rate charged was over 200% above average. Other insurers offered lower rates for better coverage & lower/no deducts, and Farmers refused to offer anything lower. I canceled and switched to State Farm for $3566 annually.
Desired outcome: Farmer's be investigated for their overbilling. And refunds be given consumers/insured for being overcharged.
