Purchased thousand of dollars worth of furniture. One of the couches is covered in a fabric that has fibers that stick you when you sit on it. We tried to brush them out and purchased an adhesive roller to remove them but nothing worked. I called them to discuss the issue and they sent an inspector who confirmed everything. We received a call saying it’s just part of the fabric and not a “defect”. They offered to send be a scrapper as a remedy.
On top of that they then said that the store we purchased it from is independently owned and therefore anything has to be done by them. Some how they are not responsible for Ethan Allen product if it’s sold in a franchise Ethan Allen location even though it was made in an Ethan Allen factory.
Bottom line THEY DON’T STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT !
Recommendation: If you think your getting a quality product from a quality company your not. Shop somewhere else!
That is a classic warranty evasion tactic and I would be furious too. Here is the practical path: contact Ethan Allen corporate directly, not the store, and demand a formal defect evaluation in writing from their quality assurance team. Since the inspector confirmed the issue, that works in your favor. Also, check if your credit card offers purchase protection or extended warranty benefits; many do for expensive items. Send a certified letter to corporate with photos and the inspector's report, and give them 14 days to replace the couch or refund it. If they refuse, file a complaint with your state's consumer protection office and consider small claims court, as the amount is significant and you have documentation.
