deceptive practices / lack of services for payment
Although you provide settings they do not follow them. My settings were for only matches within 50 miles. I rarely received matches that were even within the same state, much less the same city.
I signed up, I thought for just six-months turns out it is a year.
I was told to add photographs. I already had one. Numerous photographs are not going to make that big an impression. You can’t obtain a good feeling for someone based upon check boxes and photos but it starts a process.
I initiated contact with numerous users with ZERO results. EHarmony claims user prerogative. I believe more likely fake profiles.
I changed my profile, updated my criteria to VERY IMPORTANT. See the initial statement for results.
I requested within the first three months for a downgrade.
For the record, I copied my profile onto a free site. I received numerous, nearly instantaneous, responses, most regularly commenting on the time and thought process utilized therein. One date, numerous communications. What’s that tell ya?
Most of my access is via iPad or iPhone. REGULARLY experiencing site issues. I was also unable to locate the option to turn off automatic subscription until I was able to log on with a desktop computer. Eharmony claims the option is there via phone and Ipad. My personal experience was not the case. No response to the site issues.
I made numerous inquiries for my complaint to be upgraded. I was told that it had already been reviewed by the highest authority. I asked for a name and direct contact number and was refused. Nobody above customer care CARES.
I’m being held hostage to a service that refuses to provide even a prorated amount of return and regularly fails to provide the service it claims it can (supposedly it can take time). I requested a guarantee of improved service and fulfillment of the site/company promise. See prerogative on user contact.
I see so many people making the same complaints. HOW is this company still in business?
online dating service
Although you provide settings they do not follow them. My settings were for only matches within 30 miles. I rarely received matches that were even within the same state, much less the same city. I signed up for 6 months but after 3 months was tired of matches from all over the country and called to cancel. I asked for a refund for the 3 months I would not be using and was told you must request a refund within 3 days of signing up. How can you know how bad the service will be in 3 days, that policy is an intended rip off. They don't provide matches of any quality and keep money for services they don't perform, don't do business with this unethical company.
abysmal service
Where do I start? Consistently received matches outside my essential geographical preferences. Wrote emails complaining about this and received template email responses (one of which was actually addressed to someone else) and assurances that this would stop. It hasn't. Continued to also receive matches which were fundamentally incompatible for me i.e. no overlapping/shared interests or core values. Again wrote emails complaining and again received patronising template email responses which did not resolve my complaint. EH have now stopped responding to my email complaints altogether and are now simply ignoring them. I know that they've received them because I spoke to a customer representative and I because get read receipts for my emails. The EH rep I spoke to is based in the UK and can't/won't address my complaint, tells me that only EH HQ in the US can resolve it and told me to put my complaint in an email to which I responded that there was little point in doing that given that they are ignored. Added to which, my account was then closed by EH due to a non existent security breach. When my account was re-opened by them, AFTER they acknowledged that they'd closed my account by mistake, the few decent(ish) matches I had received had all been closed and I'm unable to communicate with any of them. As compensation, they've promised to refund my subscription fee but, frankly, that doesn't resolve the problem and a refund, which is the least they could do, doesn't address the fundamental problems with this service. What I've asked for and haven't received is restitution and for EH to deliver the service they claim to offer i.e. to do what they should already be doing. Seriously considering taking legal action. What is the process for doing this for a UK resident? Does anyone know? Feeling particularly aggrieved by the appalling service, false claims/representations by EH and the abysmal customer service.
dating service
I have been unable to get a reply from phone or email as I have left eHarmony now.
I wanted to ensure my profile (or what is left of it as I deleted as much as possible when I had finished) is no longer shown but is completely deleted and not shown to members, as unused account people had been shown to me.
It is a fertile ground for fake people to use to hook up with others on social media like facebook. I had fake people too when on the site, and now.
My complaint is not about the site itself when as a member I fully used the facilities but do not like how ex members are emailed and given out to members as possible contacts.
online dating service
EHarmony did the following to me:
- made it extremely difficult to cancel their "auto renewal" of the monthly subscription. As I understand it, you are required to cancel the new auto-renewing subscription within a very narrow time window (a few days) of when the contract expires. very few people can adhere to that and I think this is what generates so many complaints.
- they provided no means of cancelling "auto renewal" through their website. Instead, you had to send a custom message to their "customer service" and they would respond with an email saying, basically, "too bad... read the fine print"
- they provided zero email reminders of recurring bills, auto renewal, or their ridiculously narrow time window to cancel. that is, they set up their business model to maximize profit by making things very difficult for the customer.
- Specifically, they increased my monthly bill to $100 USD per month, from an introductory rate of $30/month. Again, no notification. I caught this only by reviewing my credit card monthly statements. I ended up giving EHarmony a lot of my money.
- Their customer service is extremely poor. Again, no way of cancelling on-line (you have to send email messages to customer services) and in my experience, customer service denied all attempts to cancel. i had to contact my credit-card company and explain all this. they agreed that EHarmony was not acting in good faith and blocked all further charges. That, in my view, is confirmation of fraud.
huge disappointment
I used this site twice. First time when I tried eHarmony was back in 2014 and it was a really nice place to meet new people.
About two months ago I decided to go back because I really missed eHarmony, so I went online and subscribed for 3 months. This site has changed in a bad way, there are many fake profiles now, also there are many people who want one night relationships. There were also no matches in my area.
I sent about 30 messages to different people, but received only one email back.
Then I asked eHarmony customer service to cancel my subscription and told that I want to get some of my money back and they replied nothing! I do not recommend this dating service.
impossible to quit!
They make it impossible to quit! I joined eHarmony about two months ago and then decided that this site was pretty useless, so I decided to cancel my account. I had tried to cancel and get a refund for the rest of the subscription but they refused. I thought that was not so bad and but then they charged over $200 from my card for auto renewal! I contacted eHarmony customer service and they told it was past the time I could cancel. How is that even possible? Because of them I had to cancel my credit card! It's a complete scam.
worst site ever!
I really hate eHarmony. I've been on this site for about five months and send out tons of messages, but never received any answers from people I really was interested in! I am 23 years old and I set my matches for ages 21-28. The only messages I received were from people that are 40 and above. The age range got even higher when I canceled my subscription! I got many messages from women who are older that me, but I'm not interested in dating with grannies! This website is absolutely terrible!
online matches
Since I joined eHarmony.com there are periods of time I cannot log onto my accout.it happened last weekend 2/14/ to 2/16. This weekend 2/19 to ? This is very frustrating. You cannot continue a online conversation with a possible match. At this time I am not looking for a refund. I just want what I paid for. Thank you Don Mozny. [protected]@live. com
stay away from eharmony!
I decided to give eHarmony a try and subscribed to a 3 day free trial. 3 days was enough from me to understand that this website is full of fakes, so I decided cancelled my subscription. I contacted customer service but received no reply. And then they charged $25 from my account and I have not been able to contact anyone from customer service to issue a refund. I received only one message from them. They said that if I wanted to cancel my account I had to contact customer support, but I never contacted them. An absolute lie! I tried to contact them many times and sent them tons of messages! Liars!
the worst dating site
I have been a member of eHarmony in the past and decided to give it a second chance. I signed up and few days later decided that I don't like it since the website had very few options available to me. So I contacted the customer service and requested to cancel my account. Their rep provided some instructions on how to cancel and I did exactly what I was instructed. Later I received a message from eHarmony stating that my request was rejected. I asked what was the reason, but received no reply. And now I'm stuck and don't know what to do. They'll charge me for 6 entire months! Customer service is extremely bad. Don't trust eHarmony.
unauthorized credit card charges
From April-November 2015, after cancelling my 1 month subscription to eharmony in March, they continued to deduct $64.95 per month till November, when I received a bank statement. Upon investigation with them, they stated yes I did unsubscribe and cancel then ?re activated it, with when questions given to them such as police(federal)suggested, who re activated, I.P address coming from, etc, no answers after allowing then as they requested 3 weeks as head office in U.S.A! Eventually they refunded 2 months which to me was them admitting to liability, they still couldn't answer after that why give 2 months back and not rest?No answer"s. I forwarded a lettter to C.E.O office in Santa Monica, U.S.A, 5 weeks ago and no answers.Customer Care Centre no help as little english and based in Mauritius. I am requesting the rest of refunds returned to me, as they still manage to have all my details, bank inclusive, bank since have stopped, so fromMay-November inclusive @ 64.95 per month. I can if needed forward ban deductions and email copies.
unauthorized charge
They charged Me Without Warning! This is the transcript of my communication with eHarmony Internet Dating: Dear Sirs, Three transactions have been taken out of my PayPal account without my knowledge or authorisation, they are as follows: EHarmony: 26/09/15 £29.99 Eharmony: 27/10/15 £29.99 Eharmony: 26/11/15 £29.99 This is the letter I sent them: Dear ?, Thank you for your prompt response, much appreciated. Firstly, I respect that there is a policy of non-refundable with regard to 'incognito'. However, I would appreciate if you would read why I'm asking for one. Secondly, the first time I noticed 'incognito' was as small icon at the bottom-left-hand-side of my screen, I only click on it because I believed it may have been some one trying to chat, or make contact. As I was very new to the site, I sincerely has no idea that 'incognito' was a chargeable extra. The first I new of this charge was in your email, which I received today. Once I realised what it actually did, I, personally, found it of no use to my profile search and haven't used it. There was no warning of a charge, as there is with 'Want to find out when he reads your message?', because when one clicks on this, one is confronted with the charge, and asked if one wants to proceed. There was no prior warning for a charge of £29.99 per month with 'incognito', when one clicks on the icon. Thirdly, I'm a pensioner with a very limited budget, hence why I only joined eHarmony when I received the special deal of £59.70 for the 6 month package, I sincerely could not afford more. There is no way I would have signed up for £29.99 a month on top of that sum, I just don't have the income to cover such a cost. Thirdly, because eHarmony has taken, without my knowledge or permission, a further 3 payments £29.99, via PayPal, out of my bank account, I am now in arrears with my bank, and will subsequently face bank charges. If you do not have the authority to decide if a refund is due, then please give me the name of eHarmony's CEO, so I can write to him/her with a view to receiving a refund. Their response was: Dear ?, Thank you for contacting eHarmony. I have received your recent inquiry regarding a refund of the cost you paid for the Incognito feature. Unfortunately, this feature is non-refundable as it is a feature that you gain use of as soon as it is purchased and therefore service is rendered at the time of purchase. I can assure you that this feature is not set to renew. You will have no further billing associated with this feature. I appreciate your time and wish you the best. Sincerely, ? eHarmony Trust & Safety My communication with PayPay: They've ignored my request for contact details of the company's CEO, which I've requested in 2 previous emails, if the department could not resolve this problem by refunding these unauthorised payments! If you cannot help me in my quest for a refund, then please heed this as a warning when PayPal receives these heinous contracts via the 3rd party to give the 3rd party carte blanche access to your members account for payments without your members' knowledge! Yours faithfully, ? PayPal replied that there was nothing they could do because of the eHarmony contract I'd agreed to!
safety
I joined eHarmony, I went on two dates, the first a lovely guy but not right for a longterm relationship that I was looking for. The second, which I then spent a long relationship with, I found out, lied on his profile. Whilst that should have rung alarm bells it progressed to domestic abuse. There should be safety measures to ensure that profiles are correct and honest. Cant believe what an awful experience this has been.
continual exposure to payment site rather than dating site.
I have had continuous trouble with the eharmony site since I paid for a six month subscription to this dating website. This has been going on for three months now. Almost every time the page comes up to put in my email address and password I am then passed on to the payment plans. I have already paid for six months and eharmony is asking me to pay more. Also on the rare occassions when I can find people they are not within my age or location specifications which I have adjusted. I have only been able to find one person within my dating specifications in three months. This is because I cannot get through to the dating page and I am stuck on the payment page or because when I do get to the people none are in my age or location specifications. I would like to request a full refund since I have only had frustrating and unsuccessful attempts to get through to the dating site.

unable to cancel the auto renewal billing
I made repeated attempts to cancel the auto renewal process and after a detailed review of the fine print in the contract noted the last payment must be collected before you could cancel. So on the last day before the auto renewal would continue for several more months i again tryed to cancel it. I worked into the early morning hours frustrated that I could not cancel it. I sent emails indicating I wanted it cancelled with no luck. I was able to determine the auto renewal is on eastern standard time while I am on Pacific standard time so the auto renewal cancellation was to late. EHarmony clearly wants to make it as difficult as possible to cancel so they can collect more money from innocent users. Please join me and others to take the time to file a complaint so that corrupt corporations can be held accountable.
dishonest busines practices
Do not, do not, do not sign up with eharmony or upgrade with POF unless you enjoy having money stolen out of your bank account. Their business practices are outrageous. I wish I had read reviews before considering using their sites. Both use trickery to upgrade your account for a longer period than you intended the moment you click to pay. You won't notice it until your bills start coming in. Eharmony increased my 3 month subscription to 1 year without me noticing it and POF increased my 2 month upgrade to 6 months. Luckily, I caught the POF trickery immediately and cancelled before any payment could go through. They threaten you with never being able to have an account with them again if you stop, cancel or delete an account. Oh, boo hoo. So many complaints out there regarding eharmony stealing money beyond the subscription length and not being able to stop auto renewal. Seriously, how do they stay in business and why haven't there been any investigations into the business practices of online dating services? Please beware. I wish I had known.
subscription fee
I have done online dating off and on with various online services such a Match.com, Christian Café, and Christian Mingle.
They all work the same: you subscribe to one month, if you don't take the responsibility to cancel, you are billed a second month, etc.
I joined eHarmony. It seems to be the same process. You have a choice of one month, three months, etc.
I decided to cancel my subscription I didn't know my exact date of signing up, so after wasting a half hour trying to find my account details, I see my three month subscription was actually 12 months that they charged me IN ADVANCE!
I certainly did not see anything when I signed up that stated I was actually paying for 12 months! If they clarified it, why didn't I see it on the page? I would never have signed up for 12 months IN ADVANCE.
I am furious. I called them, but, of course, I won't get my money back.
Of all the online dating services, eHarmony is by far the most suspicious and dubious. It's disgusting!
inability to refund or cancel service
There is no option to cancel my account. I did not know this was going to be the protocol when I signed up for the service. There has to be a provision for a customer who is unhappy with the results of the service to no longer pay for this service. It seems unethical to me to not allow for a clear or easy cancellation. I'd like my account cancelled and my profile completely removed from their database.

About eHarmony
One of the things that sets eHarmony apart from other dating sites is its unique matching system. Instead of simply allowing users to browse through profiles and message each other, eHarmony uses a proprietary algorithm to match users based on a variety of factors, including personality traits, values, and interests. This means that users are more likely to find someone who is truly compatible with them, rather than just someone who looks good on paper.
Another key feature of eHarmony is its focus on long-term relationships. While other dating sites may be geared more towards casual hookups or short-term flings, eHarmony is designed to help users find lasting love. This is reflected in the site's comprehensive personality questionnaire, which takes around 30 minutes to complete and is designed to help users understand themselves better and find partners who share their values and goals.
In addition to its matching system and focus on long-term relationships, eHarmony also offers a range of other features to help users connect and communicate. These include a messaging system, a "What If?" feature that suggests potential matches based on users' preferences, and a mobile app that allows users to access the site on the go.
Overall, eHarmony is a well-established and highly respected dating site that is ideal for singles who are serious about finding a long-term partner. With its unique matching system, focus on compatibility, and range of features, eHarmony is a great choice for anyone who is looking for love online.
